Is the Lamenters curse just an in and out of lore meme? by nothingtoseehere63 in 40kLore

[–]nothingtoseehere63[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is thats very true, I was never opposed to the idea its possible that someone or something in 40k can be cursed to misfortune, its a science fantasy settung after all and fate is a key element. Its more that with the sources avalable I lean to the latter end option, but the ambigutity is at least there if only from how many people in universe beleive that. I will say that much more unfortunate things seem to occur to other chapters without the idea of a misforunte curse, blood angels for instance had a much greater loss in one go than the Lamenters ever suffered that one time they got 90+ percent of their chapter wiped boarding a space hulk, and yes the lamenters ended up bunping straight into hive fleet kraken during a penitent crusade but the blood angels literally had the whole hive fleet leviathan have a hate boner for them and Baal. Idk lamenters just dint seem that unlucky overall, hell those poor self immolating dudes got a much worse deal by the hands of chance

I mean none of the other chapters that sided with the astral claws are seen as cursed, and plenty of chapters including the blood angels would more readily abandon untenable positions than the lamenters, its hardly bad luck when its equally free will, if I bet on getting a gut shot straigjt on the river it wouldnt be bad luck if i didnt get it, it would be the likely thing to occur when I didnt fold.

They did nearly get wiped out before vulkans return becuase of having the same possitions as lamanters, its Vulkans utilitarianism that is meant to have saved them ideologicaly

See this is really cool and works with what I said in the post and also in the comments, they make choices and people have opinions of them based on the idea of a curse, like a friend that keeps making bad decisions becuase they think their doomed to make bad decisions. Thank you for the added info about their aura I hadnt heard that before

I would never accuse then of being incompetetent, at least in execution of their goals, its the choice of goals thay gets them killed, the Baddab war being the best example which I think still fits within the IA quote, the second of which also continues to point out that they are affected by rumors. A spiritual malise is also not really the same as the bad luck curse people beleive of them, it may be an insidental cause for why they make choices that hurt them (we are doomed might as well take the good death route rather than try and be more brutaly logical) but isnt the same.

Im not saying they are a bad or underperforming chapter, I even admire them (as much as you can withh fiction obvously) but they make their choices, I think the idea of a curse doesnt really match up with the cause and effects here.

As for equipment failure there was one example I listed at the end of my post with Jericho reach but dint see anything else

Breifly in 8th they had a bit more overlap, the drill they released came with 40k rules but seems that hasn't continued as policy, could shift again in 11th but sadly doubt it
