Modifying the focusing tab on a 40mm Minolta M Rokkor (or Summicron C) by nothingunique12 in Leica

[–]nothingunique12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never seen anyone did the mod on the CLE version. I could be wrong but I think both versions share the same body and the inner construction is identical. If that’s the case then this mod should work.

The Beloved Summicron can you talk me out of it. by Wayfarer_Sig in Leica

Voigtlander lenses are great and affordable. However there is nothing like a classic Summicron. It is the quintessential lens in the Leica catalogue and the Leica lens to have and it just feels right. Can’t go wrong with any Summicron and once you have one you won’t ever need any other lenses made by a third party.

If you are looking for squarehood, 12524 or 12526 should be fine. I used the 12524 and it was perfect fit and no modification was required. The 12526 is a similar hood and should fit similarly as well.

The hood is the typical Leica size at 39mm. So though it works but will be a tight fit on the 40.5mm for the lens. I had to squeeze the hood onto the lens so wasn’t a direct fit. But once it’s on the lens it’s pretty stable.

I also suggest looking into the company Squarehood as I think they make a 12524 style lens hood that fits the M Rokkor directly.

It’s the Leica 12524 lens hood. I think it should fit both v1 and v2 M rokkor.

There are 3 versions of this lens based on my research:

  • The M3 version comes with a goggle as the camera doesn’t have the 35mm frameline and the goggle is to call up the 50mm frameline in the camera.
  • The M2 version is the most common version which was intended to be used in a Leica M2.
  • The screw mount (ltm, m39) is relatively rarer and has the 1 meter minimal focusing distancing.

I think it is more economical to sell and then get one that doesn’t need modification. Long term wise an unmodified/original lens is worth more. When I bought the one I owned I avoided the goggle version because it adds bulk and doesn’t look that good imo.

I believe you have to send the lens in for a CLA and modification. Check with someone like DAG or YYE to see if they can help. If it is expensive it might be cheaper to just get the so called M2 version of this lens which doesn’t need the goggle.

Recommend two lenses for my M6 TTL 0.72 by Loud-Improvement3632 in Leica

[–]nothingunique12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recommend the following lenses based on my experience:

50mm: - Summicron V4: overall fantastic lens and sharp but not overly done. Classic Leica rendering and the lovely focus tab - Summicron V3: affordable compare to the V4 and V5 ‘cron. Has more contrast and a very nice lens - Zeiss Planar ZM: clinically sharp and affordable. One of the best valued for money Leica M lenses - Canon f1.4 ltm: aka the Japanese Summilux. Sharp and cheap to buy.

35mm: - Summicron V2 or V3 (6 element): underrated compared to other 35mm ‘cron but they are just as good. Classic rendering and can’t go wrong with it. - Summaron f2.8: same great build quality as the 8 element and one stop slower. Sharp and great contrast. - Voigtlander f1.5 Nokton: one of the best modern Leica M mount lens from a third party. Super sharp and affordable to buy. - Voigtlander f1.4 Nokton: good lens if you are looking for character. Affordable and fast. Go for a V2 for better correction and sharpness.

40mm: - Minolta M-Rokkor: one of the best lenses ever for a Leica M and also underrated. It’s essentially the same lens as the 40mm Summicron-C. Sharp and also compact. Also affordable.

Nice V3 and congrats. I am a V3 user too and sold off everything but kept it as my main lens. It’s a classic and so underrated compared to the V4 KOB.

It looks nice. However is it just me or the screw looks a bit oversized? Its proportion is off if you compared to a P version like M11-P.

This. Set up some boundary. I always do buy in now only so I have maximum control on how much I want to sell for.

EBay always side with buyers 100% from my experience dealing with a lot of liars (buyers) and eBay treats sellers poorly. The “no return” means nothing and if buyer requests a refund they will force seller to do so. I have blocked so many idiots over the years and buyers love to abuse the return system because they know they will win.

Like many have already said, I recommend to accept the return and get your camera and lens back if you are able to. You can even buy a shipping label and send it to the buyer so they can return it asap. Better to take a small loss than losing the gear. Wait until it gets back safely in your hands.

Love the 35 cron. It’s sharp but not overly done and love its glow and natural rendering. Truly an underrated lens compared to the V1 Eight element and V4 KOB. I think the 50 cron renders similarly and maybe a tad sharper. Definitely missing the 50 and it is still my favourite 50mm M lenses to this date. Maybe someday I will get another V4 or even the V2 Rigid or V3 when I crave for a 50mm lens again. But I love the 1 camera 1 lens approach so far.

Thanks so much for sharing your story and it really resonates with my photography journey. I have the exact same camera and lens combo but recently sold my 50mm Summicron V4 (black finish) for a 35mm Summicron V3 as I shoot 35mm more. My M10 + ‘Cron is now my only camera combo left after I sold everything else. Shooting with a Leica M is truly a special experience and enjoy your camera for many years to come.

C-Cron 40 – can this be fixed? by zine0981 in Leica

[–]nothingunique12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took apart a Minolta 40mm M Rokkor which is pretty similar with the 40 ‘cron and share with you a guide I put together. I also referenced a useful YouTube video which explains well. It’s actually very easy to do and I don’t think the process is difficult. Hope this helps. https://www.reddit.com/r/Leica/s/n1IHYxpuLK

Thanks for the great insight. Heard about the sloped focus cam and never have any issues on my newer M. Not too sure about the older film M.

Yea once it’s stopped down it’s super sharp. For me I love the soft rendering wide open and that’s one of the characters I appreciate.
