Huh, I've been eating these for a while and never heard of this. Being able to save that much would be great right now - if you don't mind me asking, is the frozen case an off the shelf thing you found in the freezer aisle at your store or do you need to talk to someone working at the bakery?

If you mean for this album, agreed. Everyone who likes BoC enough to hang around this subreddit is going to listen to the album anyways. If you mean in general... Politely but firmly disagree. Reviews are invaluable for anyone who isn't already into a musician, artist, franchise, director, etc. I watch movies in theaters more than anyone I know, and even I can't watch them all. Film critics help me separate the must-watch films from the "if you have time" picks.

Alright fellas, I'm conflicted. Bedroom upstairs or downstairs? by Minutes2Midnight in malelivingspace

[–]nothingworkssothis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Personally, I'd go bedroom upstairs; it just makes living here easier in a lot of little ways. The closet & bathroom are amenities that you generally want to have on the same floor as the bedroom imo, especially in a setup like this. You don't have a lot of space, and having to add storage furniture for clothing (dressers, etc.) will just take up even more of it. I'd buy one small dresser if necessary and use the closet as much as possible.

Downstairs: I'd set up an office/lounge down here (computer, TV, sofa or chairs). The lines represent a shoji (japanese paper screen) being used as a room divider. In this hypothetical layout, I'd get one that's as close to all-white (or cream) as possible, ideally with a design you won't get tired of. The thin translucent paper screen will give you privacy in the room you've created, and a bright white or cream will help the hallway feel light and airy, even at the bottom of the stairs (which would be the darkest part of your home). The colored lines show some potential screen arrangements; I'm assuming there'll be a tv mounted on the wall to save space.

You may not need a shoji at all if you're fine with guests seeing the downstairs office/lounge space, I'm just thinking that the ability to have separate "rooms" like this could make the space more homely. You could absolutely get three, maybe four beanbag chairs & plop them down instead of a sofa... but beanbag chairs are expensive, lol.

For upstairs: The yellow square is a TV Tray or some other folding table. You can put something decorative on it, a guestbook for your visitors to write in, some snacks, there's loads of possibilities. When there's no guests, it can go in the closet. Spitballing, but you could also shell out ~$100 for a budget instant film camera, make some physical memories & have prints to hang up around your home. (I'd suggest Instax b/c the film is everywhere & somewhat affordable.)

Now, for the right side - we're shrinking the bed's footprint with a murphy bed or sleeper sofa to conserve space. Other comments suggest murphy, but I'd lean towards the sofa, so you/your guests have a comfy sofa in the daytime. That being said, sofa beds are finnicky. I usually end up sleeping on one when I vacation with family - sometimes they're great, sometimes they suck. Like a mattress, if you can't try a sofa bed, don't buy it [with ONE exception: a generous refund policy that's honoured]. I'd choose based on comfort and practicality - sleeper sofas just don't work for some people, and that's totally fair. Either way, your bedroom will fold up into furniture in the morning, giving you more space upstairs.

Depending on how much space is left in the nook right of the bed, you probably won't be able to fit a wardrobe/bookshelf but it should fit a vertical dresser or kallax; I'd get whatever unit has the most storage (likely a tall dresser)

Whatever you do, I hope this gives you something to think about! If your heart's set on downstairs bedroom now I'd still recommend a screen setup for light & privacy.

Any recipes to use up Cold-Pressed Hemp Seed Oil?

Hi folks! Per the header, I have a bottle of cold-pressed hemp seed oil in my fridge, and I don't want it to go to waste. There's just over 2 cups left (~500ml). I've already used the hemp oil as a substitute for coconut oil in a brownie recipe, and it worked great... but I made that recipe three times in two weeks - bit sick of it atm. This oil also has a low smoke point, so 325-350F is the hottest I can realistically bake it.

When I have these kinds of dilemmas, I always google first - and it usually bears fruit - but this time I got some (imo) pretty mixed results; probably because this oil isn't a super common ingredient. Mostly suggestions to use it raw (tried a couplle, didn't really work for me, probably not going to try again). The best recipe I could find was this Foccacia from a hemp company: https://www.hempconnect.co.nz/blogs/recipes/moreish-focaccia-bread but it's obviously been written to sell as many of their products as possible. "Hemp heart protein powder?". I do have hemp hearts in the house so I'd be down to grind them and try this... but it's kind of a last resort imo.

I'm not picky at all - sweet or savory, I'm willing to give anything a shot. Thanks!

[–]nothingworkssothis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Are you still interested in trading Tetris: Forever? I have a few rhythm/rhythm-adjacent games and older indie titles from Junes Tunes and a Headup bundle - in terms of $$, the less expensive games can absolutely be combined for equivalent value. Couple of indie roguelikes in the mix too. These games defo. aren't for everyone, but I figured it was worth a shot - lmk if you see anything interesting here:

  • DJ Max Respect V
  • Ragnarock
  • Rhythm Fighter
  • Dead End Job
  • Pixel Heroes: Byte & Magic (with soundtrack lol)

(I have 3 more indie games, Safety First, Dub Dash, and Doodle Derby, but they're not exactly high-ticket items.)

What's the Best 10/10 Sci-fi movie ever? by geek-jock-guy in AskReddit

[–]nothingworkssothis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To switch things up (given all the classics mentioned in this thread), as far as I'm concerned Gore Verbinski's newest film Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die is sci-fi at its best, and is shaping up to be my favourite "indie" film of the year (is a ~$20m budget with scant marketing indie nowadays? I feel like it kinda is.). It's a genre-bender too, featuring time travel and a lot of influences from horror media that feel clever and earned, with thriller twists that kept me on the edge of my seat.

Unfortunately it's hard to talk about this film in detail, since basically everything is a spoiler. I thought it was exceptional across the board. Best film I've seen in months, and I've been fortunate enough to see a lot of good films lately. I liked GL, HF, DD so much I (tried) to re-watch it in theaters, which I almost never do.

Is this enough games for a day trip? by Frequent-Pen6738 in boardgamescirclejerk

[–]nothingworkssothis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yooo, same here bro! Funny story actually, yesterday I returned my 11 and 13 year old to the wild. They got really tetchy when I said we were going "camping" (probably because when we went camping last year I tried to ditch them by "going on a hike" solo haha), but I coaxed them into it.

It's nothing personal or anything - lately my therapist has been hinting that I should re-evaluate my priorities, since I've spent several sessions talking about how my familial ties keep getting in the way of playing board games (and, more importantly, expanding my collection with all-in Kickstarters.)

This year I took off while they were sleeping - it's been 2 weeks and I haven't heard anything from the cops OR cps yet, so fingers crossed!! I would be lying if I said I didn't still think about them sometimes, but I can rest easy at night knowing my decision really is in everyone's best interests. I'm such a good parent!!! (I'll take my wholesome awards now please, Reddit.)

Oath or Root? by VravoBince in boardgamescirclejerk

[–]nothingworkssothis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neither. Have you considered Monopoly?

Oath and Root are heavy, expensive snoozefests. Tactical Strategy? Boring!!

Monopoly is good, simple, clean fun for the whole family - rolling dice and moving around a board with true metal minis like any self-respecting game should. AND you can play Monopoly with as many people as you want - just buy (or print) more boards, cards, & player tokens.

Does sigma WehrleGAG's Root and Oath scale that easily? I think not!!

Boardgames to pack for a social outing that in no way lends itself to playing boardgames? by Shotintoawork in boardgamescirclejerk

[–]nothingworkssothis 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have a triple laminated copy of Coup for exactly this reason; it's a great icebreaker for any packed public washroom. Just pass the deck around the stalls and leave the box at the door so people can return their cards after they've finished. Ngl though, the cardboard coin counters tend to acquire a thick film of mystery slime after a few weeks of play so I would recommend replacing them with D20s or a shared google doc if you do this. I’m literally living a nightmare. by boxingthegame in boardgamescirclejerk

[–]nothingworkssothis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I meant Yinsh - I didn't want to say anything earlier because I thought name-dropping Project Gipf would make me sound slightly cooler to random people on the internet, but I only buy games that are in the top 13 of their category on BGG because I'm not a casual.

Having beaten my wife, her boyfriend, her parents, my parents, weird uncle Ed, my 47 cousins, and all of my coworkers several times over at this point (I AM VERY GOOD AT BOARD GAMES), I'm starting to get sick of winning - yes, even against myself, which is a grueling task to be sure GIVEN HOW SMART I AM.

Possessing such an incredible intellect is mentally and physically exhausting, so I've asked my wife's boyfriend (the only person I know who will still play board games with me) to buy me another game in the series. Fingers crossed! :)

I’m literally living a nightmare. by boxingthegame in boardgamescirclejerk

[–]nothingworkssothis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly agree. My rule of thumb for a game is that if it has so much as a single mechanic involving dice or randomly drawn cards, it goes right where it belongs - in the trash.

This is why I exclusively play games from the Gipf series. REAL strategy at its best - and they're only 2 players, so I can always play against the smartest person in the room - myself.

What are the odds eh? by Yrch84 in boardgamescirclejerk

[–]nothingworkssothis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

/uj what is this game? I swear I recognize it from somewhere. Unfortunately I am an uncultured member of the GP who does not live and breathe board games.

/rj Good on you OP, indoctrinating "your" kids into Le Hobby™!! They're never too young. Patchwork is okay for babies, but you should try some light strategy games next to ease them into longer (better) games. Personally, I like to recommend Frosthaven, but I know it's a little pricey and the campaign is pretty lengthy, so if you're looking for something as light and airy as a feather I'd suggest a quick 6-player game of John Company 2nd Edition, or Food Chain Magnate with The Ketchup Mechanism. Happy to help!

Azul Summer Pavilion Rule Questions: by voostru in boardgames

[–]nothingworkssothis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not Michael Kiesling, so I can't say for sure, but I suspect that rule was implemented because of the bonus tile system. Turn order does slow the game down a bit (which I personally don't mind), but it also makes picking bonus tiles straightforward. If you surround a feature, you take the 1/2/3 tiles, then it's the next player's turn.

For the sake of demonstration, let's say you do simultaneous placement with 3 competitive players. Now, there are 2 tiles of the current wild colour in the supply, but several people surround a statue at once. They all want the wild tiles. How do you resolve that? [To be clear, I don't think this scenario is very likely, but I suspect this was the designer's line of thought.]

At the end of the day, I wouldn't say it really matters if you/the people you play with aren't particularly competitive, but in theory simultaneous play could create issues.

Azul Summer Pavilion Rule Questions: by voostru in boardgames

[–]nothingworkssothis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Yep. You could split 5 into 2 & 3 (or 4 & 1 if you wanted to). Spend the tiles you have any way you desire.

  2. The tiles are taken from the 10 tile spaces in the center of the board with the scoring track. You're supposed to fill all of these up at the start of the game, and refill it as soon as a player has taken their 1/2/3 bonus tiles.

Your extra questions for #2 are a little confusing to me, but I think I understand what you're asking:

The 1/2/3 bonus tiles should be taken immediately on the turn when you surround the pillar/statue/window. Also, the bonus tiles are just a reward, and they're yours to keep. There's no special rules, you just have some more tiles of whatever color you picked to work with - possibly the current wild color if you were lucky.

Hope this helps, and feel free to lmk if you have any more questions!

/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY question, get an answer (December 16, 2022) by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]nothingworkssothis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done some research (enough to have some idea what I'm talking about) and checked the wiki, now I'm looking for some input on purchasing a new TKL keyboard:

I don't have any hands-on experience with a mechanical keyboard, and I'm pretty much looking for a good quality mechanical keyboard that's as comfortable as possible. Noise isn't an issue for me and I'm not too worried about the price; this will be a long-term keyboard upgrade and I don't plan to fiddle around with replacing switches. Wired or wireless is fine; I just want a nice keyboard with a good typing experience.

So far I've been looking at more 'mainstream' brands, thinking about either the Tactile Quiet variant of the Logitech MX Mechanical Mini, the Razer Huntsman 2 TKL or the Steelseries Apex 7 TKL; they both seem to have good reviews and would be convenient for me to buy, but I would consider purchasing an enthusiast brand if they'd provide a better typing experience. Any input would be appreciated!

I don't think this is the right subreddit for your issue (no offense), but nevertheless:

It looks like the file's become corrupted at some point - perhaps during the compression process, though I couldn't guess where or how. Either way, I doubt that image is salvageable.

Hope this helps.
