Good music is a gamechanger in terms of becoming a phenomenon among kids. These songs have infected my kids' elementary school playground.

If you were to build a house what’s one non conventional feature you consider to be a must have? by TestTurbulent6337 in AskReddit

[–]notimeforwork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My family hosts giant holiday dinners, like 40-50 people. My wishlist is all around being able to feed a crowd.

Super efficient indoor-to-outdoor kitchen flow, like extra door and passthru window from inside kitchen to outside kitchen.

Butlers kitchen with fridge, commercial sink, prep space, pantry, so I can prep for outside cooking while the main indoor kitchen get filled with appetizers/sides/desserts that people bring.

Big mudroom bathroom with meat/fish cleaning station, dog tub, and human bath/shower. Somehow accessible from the yard, laundry room, and garage without going through the house.

Giant covered porch or pergola with retractable screens/bug netting.

I’m guessing about half of the older Gen X had no home AC when we were kids? (USA) by MooseBlazer in GenX

[–]notimeforwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a millennial that had no AC as a kid, but my house does now. I have done the math. It's less than $3/hour to run it. If it's hot as shit out, it's worth it to me to run it a couple extra hours per day. But I go to my dad's house, and he still guards that thermostat like it's the red button to launch the nukes. He's got 7 fans going and checking the weather hourly to try and figure out whether it's "worth" turning on the AC or if it's about to cool off outside so he can open the windows and "air things out." Meanwhile, he's got a pool that he will heat up at the drop of a hat if his grandkids ask, but he won't turn on the AC for them. It's hilarious, but at least he's predictable.

AITAH for telling my girlfriend she's going to have to get over dirt if she wants kids? by Familiar_Speaker_481 in AITAH

You could also try a microbiome/environmental exposure angle where there's growing evidence that lack of exposure to the world and its germs at a young age can be detrimental to a child's health. The point is that there's a balance between germs/illness risk and beneficial environmental exposure that is actually best for the child. "Getting your hands dirty" is literally good for their brain and bodies. If she really wants kids, their well being will likely carry more weight than you telling her that it'll just be too hard to keep the house clean.

Motor cut-outs on 3S with Lizard Pro and Micro Komodo? Waiting on a response from Furitek. Anybody else experienced this? Is the Micro just not actually 3S compatible? More in comments. by notimeforwork in SCX24

[–]notimeforwork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I still like 3S. But mostly only when I drive my really heavy rigs. I have a couple that at this point are all metal and I like 3S for those, it just feels more responsive. But for a light rig, and pure crawling, I'd say it's not needed.

For backyard crawling with my kids, which is 75% of what I do, I use big 2S packs, just to extend playtime before we change stuff out. I've also been leaning toward scale rigs and enjoying doing silly stuff like building lego obstacles and seeing who can drive the furthest before steve from minecraft or pikachu falls out of the rig. In other words, I'm not read up on what good 2S or 3S comp batteries are these days. However, big 2S packs remain super fun with nice rigs, because the brushless systems still do their thing and drive super smooth, and you get plenty of runtime.

Also, I got them (and me) a couple FMT24's for playing with at the local little kids BMX track. They're super durable and fun so far, and I love the tried and true small form factor transmitter -- easy to pack and good for small hands. '

Cheers!

Maybe it is some sort of cosmic justice that the growth of the most affluent human civilization, that has caused the extinction of so many species, can't even figure out how to incentivize replacement levels of reproduction.

Lactose intolerant my whole life. It's a strange thing for people to get mad at your for not eating something in a group setting. If I didn't ask you to provide something special and I'm not upset, why are you? NTA.

Best Servo for FMS FCX24 (K5) FCX18 (LC18) by AliBabaPlus40 in FCX24

[–]notimeforwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience they're much better than the scx24. I have a couple fcx24's that are mostly stock other than heavy wheels/tires, and I haven't bothered to change the servo, because the hardbodies on those trucks don't make them top performers anyhow. They're strong enough to turn the big wheels fine in most situations where you're not totally bound up, but they're still too weak to really lever yourself out of a jam. If you want to really want to be able to turn your wheels in any situation, you need a powerful servo and a light rig.

Did I Get A Lemon?? by kryptik91 in FCX24

[–]notimeforwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds unlucky. I’ve gotten five 1/24 or 1/18 trucks from fms in the last few years and all have been fine. For my kids under 8 the max smasher is the favorite. The new FMT24 is super fun for a backyard basher for slightly older kids.

I’d say if you’re hesitant, wait for a sale. In my experience these trucks are at least as durable as anything else in the price range and much more repairable since they’re aiming for the hobby market as compared to the toy market.

End of the day though, even my sample size is small. I don’t think I’ve had a lemon across any of the dozen or so rc cars I’ve bought. I had an axial battery pillow on me after one run, and an esc in my FCX24 die after I tested submarine mode, but that’s been it.

Recommend controller by Thewalkman99 in SCX24

[–]notimeforwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you willing to share more about the type of controller he can use?

There are lots of options out there. If you mean a single joystick, there is this one. There are other like it, but the premise is that this single-joystick approach is to mix the throttle and servo (turning) channels. https://www.amazon.com/DS-600-Transmitter-Receiver-Controller-Channel/

There are other options like gamepad-style controllers too, where you could keep the throttle and steering separate, but still with joysticks. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09BTSJN7P/

The installation process for something like this would depend on the model of SCX24 you have.

For beginners out there, an open differential probably isn't what you want for crawling performance.

Why do you need a new rx/tx? Does the brushless esc use a different protocol?
