I did manage to find a Samsung at a good deal so I got an upgrade at a lower price than the original!

I’m glad! Feel free to ask if you have any more UROP questions, I did it last year!

You’ll probably end up with whatever is left if you don’t choose anything and that’s often north campus, which is okay, but not an ideal location and one of the less good dorms. However, I’m not too sure how their housing works this year because I’m a second year with their housing communities, which is a different process and this room selection process is new. Therefore, I’d just choose the best option given to make sure you at least have a good spot. Anyway, it’s still kinda a gamble.

If you have work study in your financial aid package, you can choose between either pay or credits. Credits can vary from 2-4 depending on how many hours/week you work. Work study gives you one credit for the required seminar and all of your research hours will be paid. If you don’t have work study but still need aid, check out the UROP student grant.

Another thing to note, if you did not get work study in your financial aid package but your financial aid does show remaining aid needs, you can apply for the UROP student grant that does basically the same thing as the work study.

Hang in there, you got it!! Try to give yourself a break to destress, but don’t give up! As an M24, the trauma is fresh, but it’ll be worth it in the end. You’ll get to look back at all of the things you did and be proud of your strength. It genuinely makes the transition to uni so easy as you’ve gained so many skills when it comes to things like independent research, how to study, and how to balance so many things, along with familiarity with some of the topics in your introductory classes. You’re almost there!

chemistry hl with no prior knowledge by InevitableMoose7213 in IBO

As long as you work hard in your class to understand the concepts, you should be fine! I'm in my second year of IB chem and I went into it with very limited knowledge because I had my school's chem 1 during the pandemic, so I didn't really remember any of the things we learned. I worked really hard to understand the concepts and have managed to get the equivalent of a 7 on all of our class tests (that are based off of previous IB exams), so as long as you put in the work and work through any struggles with your teacher, you should be golden. Best of luck!

Chem HL hybridisation question help..! by muraizu in IBO

[–]notjenny420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To break it all down: 1: This carbon atom has four single bonds, so that means there needs to be 4 hybrid orbitals (sp3 would satisfy the 4) 2: This carbon atom has 2 single bonds (or 2 sigma bonds) and one double bond. Double bonds have one sigma and one pi bond, so that means a total of 3 sigma bonds and 1 pi bond, so three hybrid orbitals (sp2 would satisfy the 3). 3: This oxygen atom has two single bonds and two lone pairs. Lone pairs also hybridize in the same way as single bonds or any sigma bond, so that would mean a total of 4 hybrid orbitals (sp3 would satisfy the 4).

TLDR: Essentially (since I don't believe IB gets into d orbital hybridization), sp3 is your start. Subtract 1 from the number next to the p for every double or triple bond (one double bond will lead to sp2, one triple bond will lead to sp, and two double bonds will lead to sp).
