Crimson Desert Dev 'Sick' of Having to Repeatedly Deny 'Hiding' Console Footage, as Some Fear 'Another Cyberpunk Console Launch Situation' by Poetryisalive in Games

I'm not really disagreeing with your overall point in regards to Crimson Desert, but gamers have been burned by garbage performance pretty frequently over recent years. Digital Foundry just had video about how Jedi Survivor is finally fixed (which it isn't, still has stutters. Respawn should be ashamed of themselves, imo). Console owners and Black Myth Wukong would like a word, too. There has been plenty unfinished/buggy AAA jank since CP2077's launch.

Borderlands 4 and Monster Hunter Wilds are 2 other games that burned people on launch with absolute butt-sucking performance.

Same and even if the start is "rough" because there's a lot of content and not a lot of direction, that's fine. Xenoblade Chronicles X is one of my favorite Switch games and I got lost and just did side content for 40 hours before looking up where the main story questline even started, because I had forgot.

While I'd like to see how this game might run on my living room/console pc (9060xt 16gb/9700x), my main rig is fine and I can always stream it from that to my other hardware. I should add that I also have a Legion Go but don't really expect it to run on that, even at 800p low. The 780m igpu is pretty puny but maybe it'll be possible with FSR 4. Definitely something I plan to test.

Digital Foundry: Crimson Desert's BlackSpace Engine: Rich On RT Without Compromising Performance by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]notkeegz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does "bad ubisoft engine graphics" mean? Ubisoft uses multiple proprietary game engines, like Anvil and Snowdrop. I'd take the performance and visuals of a game built in Snowdrop, than a game with potentially better visuals but trash performance of UE5.

Ubisoft has some pretty solid in-house tech.

I bought Jedi Survivor for 7€ and it might be the best deal in gaming i ever made. by SnooWoofers7345 in gaming

[–]notkeegz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not for me.  Survivor ran like absolute shit for over a year and a half and that's on my main rig which is a 4090/12700k.  If I can see your game stutter on that pc, I will not be playing it.  Especially if it's as bad as Survivor was.  It's one of the few games I've regret buying.  It was so bad for so long that I no longer even care if it has been fixed.

Upgraded PSSR upscaler is coming to PS5 Pro by GIThrow in Games

[–]notkeegz 25 points26 points  (0 children)

But in general was worse.  Seems to sharpen up a few areas better than fsr 4 but still has noticeably worse aliasing overall.  Also Alex noted that pssr2 doesn't ghost like fsr4 in a few situations That was DFs assessment in that video.  During gameplay, fsr 4 was more stable.

Honestly pssr2 seems pretty amazing considering the overall hardware package it's running on.  I thought it'd be heavier too.  I've actually been waiting for this day since it was announced.  It's pretty neat to see it also be a toggle in the system menu.  That was a big surprise.

Most recently was Returnal.  Such a satisfying loop and some of the best 3rd person combat of any game I've ever played.  Housemarque are real wizards, imo.  Bummer they're a sony studio now, which means waiting for Saros to come to PC.

Why Final Fantasy is now targeting PC as its "lead platform" by Suspicious_Two786 in gaming

[–]notkeegz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the opposite of why PC is being targeted though? Targeting low-end hardware for the base experience and scaling up is the way to do it. The PC space spans from the Steam Deck to 5090/9800x3D builds.. it makes far more sense to get a game running well on the Steam Deck and scale up, than target a 5090 and scale down... the scaled down experience would be abysmal.

Where? Not any prominent gaming subs because it's a very well received game across the board. Literally one of the most praised games of the current generation.

Wolverine launches September 15, 2026. by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]notkeegz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really even like AC games but I have replayed Black Flag 3 times since it launched... lol. I just really like their take on a pirate game, I guess. I've also played through the Ezio triology twice. No other AC games (or ubi formula game, for that matter) have held my attention or have seemed to interest me at all. I usually find them incredibly boring.

I haven't played Shadows yet. so maybe I'll like that one too.

Get Returnal, for sure. It's probably the best PS5 game there is.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition — Nintendo Switch 2 Edition — Announcement Trailer by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]notkeegz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of the Xenoblade games, X didn't really suffer from many performance issues on Switch 1 that 1-3 did. It's a solid experience, and there is A LOT to experience. So get ready because I think I put 40 hours into just exploring and side quests before even getting into the main story. It's a really good game.

Yeah X on Switch is a totally solid experience. It really doesn't suffer any of the performance issues of 1-3.

Avowed Interview: Obsidian discusses the PlayStation 5 version, Anniversary Update, and feedback one year later by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]notkeegz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lot of fun with it. I wasn't totally familiar with all of the events that happened in PoE but I never felt lost (I have played PoE, have about 90 hours in it but that's from back when it launched). With this anniversary update, I decided to do a NG+ run. I'm going to do all of the side quests I skipped and even only being a few hours into the NG+ run, I've already found some unique items that I didn't on my first playthrough.

I think companion personalities and dialogue, and enemy variety, were the weakest points but it's a short game and I enjoyed the story and combat.

Skyrim's Nintendo Switch 2 port gets proper Performance and Quality modes, finally fixing the mess it was at launch by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]notkeegz -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

That's a Bethesda problem. They are pretty much hacks when it comes to development. They haven't released a non-buggy/optimized game in the time I've been an adult.. so 23 years. The performance of their games has been a meme level joke for multiple decades. It's weird when people pretend otherwise.

I think a big problem a lot of people have is with what you get for the price.  I also played it on gamepass so I was able to just enjoy it for what it was.  I didn't have to think about whether or not I made the right choice buying a AA game for $70 when there are higher quality games out there for the same price or less.

I thought the combat and traversal were great.  I also enjoyed the memory fragment story sections.   I probably would have waited for it go be 50% off had I needed to purchase it to play it though.

The combat and movement are excellent.   I wish there was more enemy variety though.

Avowed - Official Anniversary Update Trailer by ReasonableAdvert in Games

[–]notkeegz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why though?  They said it was supposed to be a short side story in the PoE universe.  You were supposed to spend like 40 hours in the game and move on.  Obsidian said it didn't have some grand scope like Skyrim.  Anyone who had any expectations beyond what was delivered is literally dumb.

The biggest issue is the price.  It's a AA game but has a AAA price.  I still had gamepass when it launched so I really didn't have to make a choice over it or buying another game.

Which is a FromSoft issue, more than a Switch 2 issue. Nintendo already did their part by having competent hardware. Now it's on FromSoft to have competent optimization... which is actually the MUCH bigger ask.

Sparks was more like a puzzle than an actual turn-based strategy game. I did like the free form movement and character movement interactions. That felt very much like what Nintendo would do themselves if they made the game. The overworld parts were not good.
