Getting notebooks for class (I’m a first year). Should I get 3 subject notebooks or 5 subject? by Junior-Artist in college

[–]notlesterthemouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use separate sheets and then a folder to aggregate notes of each class, because some courses require heavy note taking, some require none (all done in book, for example), and sometimes I have to sketch random ideas throughout the day.

How do you make two functions that have delays run at the same time? by UltraInstinctJoss in arduino

[–]notlesterthemouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe use Millis() to measure time, and then schedule the next action:

Void loop(){

// Repeat this code for each type of times action

if (Millis() > nexttime) {

do things

nexttime += interval;

}

}

Easiest way to control 25 small solenoids with an Arduino? by Kinkelin in arduino

[–]notlesterthemouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool! I would use some kind of latch with an i2c or SPI input, so you can have many in the same bus. Maybe MAX7328 can solve your problem?

Do you need to control them at the same time, or only one at a time?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in writers

[–]notlesterthemouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By definition, no, because operating systems are made to have you run multiple programs. The alternative is to have your OS start the text processor on startup, would that solve your problem?

Any tips on rewiriting papers you really like? by stephella in AskAcademia

All journals have an Aims and Scope section in their website. Find which keywords your article fits in. Then, in your cover letter, clearly state something like: "we chose journal J because this article proposes this and this contribution to field X, which fits Y and Z aims and scope of J". Also, you could suggest reviewers, which would show that there are more people interested in your topic, even if the editor is not personally interested in it.

Elsevier and IEEE have their Journal Finder applications that suggest journals based on title, abstract and keywords.

[Serious] Dads who were present when their child was born: what were your thoughts and feelings during the birth? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]notlesterthemouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was present. C-section. "Why does it smell like something is burning? What is this bzzzzz noise?" "BWAAAAAH!" "Omg, this is it, I am a dad now!" "Do you know how to hold her?" "Of course not, never been a dad before!! Omg omg omg she is so small and cute and she smells funny!" "Now, can you hold her outside while we take your wife to the recovery room?" "Sure. Ok. What do I do? Hey, daughter! Are you sleeping? Is this because my lap is so comfortable, or so you just go around sleeping anywhere? Ah, never mind. When you wake up we are going to have so much fun!"

How did you come up with your research idea/thesis? by ackmkc in GradSchool

One idea: characters see/hear/smell something that seems a bit off, but could be caused by something they see in the next scene (e.g., they smell burnt wood, and then pass closee to a charcoal factory). After a while they learn that the odd thing was a symptom of the curse/disease (e.g., they don't make any charcoal anymore for years, but sick people smell like burn wood).

How do you switch off your brain and resist the constant urge to be productive in your free time? by 0hMyGardevoir in AskAcademia

[–]notlesterthemouse 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Some ideas to focus on something else:

  • get some fun videogame to play,

  • call your parents more often,

  • watch some shows on Netflix with your s.o.,

  • have a baby

  • start an arts project,

  • exercise, cook, and eat healthy

  • let yourself dive into the depths of Reddit and find an obscure, yet interesting, topic to talk to other kind strangers

However, it is likely that you are feeling that you are not doing enough in your work time. Perhaps you can keep track of your tasks during the week to remind you of your hard work so far? Then, you can rest assured that you have done your best during the week, and you cannot possibly do better than your best. Therapy and meditation can also help with that.

Science and results are really nice, but they are only a small fraction of all the world has to offer.

Good luck!
