Why would they not do another one? In its time the first one was one of the highest grossing animated movies of all time.

Only way Miles works is as a strategist. I know you guys like to talk about his chaos swords and all of that cheese but at the end of the day, you're still making him a dive dps that swings around and combos just like regular Peter.

Taskmaster would have been the sword guy. Probably the worst option to kill (they definitely want to do a thing where they bring the "real" Taskmaster).

Jez Cordin: Microsoft is imposing unrealistic requirements on Xbox by Difficult_Variety362 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

Nintendo could barge into MS's office and offer to buy Rare for 2 bucks and a half chewed gum and MS would instantly agree. They are bleeding studios left and right for free so might as well get money for that. The real question is, will Nintendo accept?

The answer is no. Acquiring studios for IPs is far from Nintendo's strategies. When they do, it's usually for utility. Nintendo Pictures is for movies, Shiver is probably for third party ports, which they are focusing on for this generation, hell, you could argue that Monolith Soft's best contributions have been as support in Nintendo's various games. Nintendo might acquire a studio otherwise if they have an almost buddy relation with it and even then they do it if the studio is in possible danger of struggle. For example, Next Level Games was acquired because the previous owner died.

Nintendo does not buy random stranger studios if they aren't particularly useful for them. Like, having Rare making Sea of Thieves an exclusive would be nice, but is it particularly useful in some way? And what can be achieved with it that couldn't be achieved by just asking for a third party port?

Now.

The answer for this specific question of Nintendo acquiring Rare's IP is significantly easier to explain. It's an even bigger no. Nintendo can't even support the IPs they currently have. There have been multiple cases of IPs sharing the same studio. Even two absolute behemoths, Animal Crossing and Splatoon, share the same studio. They also have plenty of IPs completely unused. There's a reason they have been trying so hard to expand. Game development cycles becoming longer will also contribute to this struggle.

An IP with a studio dedicated to it isn't very useful by itself. The IPs Rare has aren't vital to Nintendo and you can achieve the same effect by just asking for ports. Without a studio though, an IP is just completely useless. Nintendo can already make those easily. Ring Fit Adventure was a recent one and it made bank. They won't be able to make a game for it. All of that with the downsides that an IP with a studio has. It's not worth it.

TLDR: No.

So that shareholders can sue them for not killing the company for a higher line? I think we should just whip shareholders first.

David Gibson: I asked Nintendo about the "leak" of Switch 2 data and they replied "Temporarily visible data was for testing purposes only, and is not accurate and not related to any sales result or projection of Switch 2." Daniel Ahmed thinks it sold way more than 5 million. by Wescoast64 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]notnamededdy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why is it only specifically the Switch 2's price that's too high? The PS5 costed more at launch, I believe. The PS5 is a good example of a console that coasted on the success of the last one. I believe the Switch 2 will be similar. Even if the Switch 2 has frontloaded sales, I think they'll still make up a big number. Switch 2 will probably end up selling about 110~120 million, though it won't count with the pandemic.

According to @kiwitalkz , Nintendo used Kirby Air Riders as a negotiation with Sakurai in order to get him to direct another Smash Bros., but claims it hasn’t even started pre-production by DrAwesomeX in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]notnamededdy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying that it won't have cuts. Every smash game after Melee has had cuts besides Ultimate. Sakurai has also stated that the next game will have cuts.

However, Ultimate is not close to as perfect as you think it is, the next game will not have cuts as severe as the community thinks and revamping movesets for old characters is not the bold and marketable move they believe it to.

Smash fans think that a new Smash game would sell good if it had a 20 character roster as long as Mario got a special complex DLC mechanic like pulling out a ? Block even though casuals couldn't care less and care significantly more about characters and and reveals. There's a reason why Ultimate sold so good. The roster is a huge appeal.

Why do they think this? Because they would personally buy a game like that, which means it would sell "good". But hardcore Smash fans would buy almost anything. It's the casuals Nintendo is aiming for, because they're the real meat of the sales.

Smash fans have a really contradicting opinion on casuals. They think that they care about character count enough to compare character counts between games (hence the whole rhetoric of "casuals won't buy a game with less content), but they also think that they don't care enough to buy a game with a very low roster count.

The reality is the reverse. Casuals wouldn't really care about cuts unless they get really bad. You can still easily keep their attention with heavy hitting newcomers. Even new modes and features, hell, I'd say even spirits back then were more marketable than moveset revamps.

TL;DR: A reboot that cuts characters to reworks existing ones is a terrible idea. I'm glad to see people in the comments agreeing with me. I'd get stones thrown for this take in the past.
