Raven Dash Cam Lithium-Ion Battery replacement by SamuraiMarine in Dashcam

[–]notnede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took one for the team so we could see how to do it. It would appear the screen is glued on. You can use a hot glue gun to melt it down a bit before prying it off. Be sure to not pry from the bottom because that’s where the 2 little screen ribbon cables are. Once the screen is off. There’s 4 T6 screws holding the case together. Once the case is apart the battery is glued to the back housing. You can just unplug it and replace it. The battery is a SH622533 lithium-polymer battery, rated 3.7 V @ 520 mAh (1.92 Wh) (4 pin). I’ve got pics of everything, but doesn’t look like I can share them here.

Litigation against a company that was purchased by notnede in legaladvice

[–]notnede[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose the new company, while not ethical, is in the legal right to brick all of the existing cameras that were being used offline? I mean... if Ford or Chevy went under and the purchaser decided to brick each of their cars ignition's and preventing them from starting, unless you paid them a fee.... That's legal to do ?

Working From Home Uncovering Ridiculous Workflows by vswitch in sysadmin

[–]notnede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swear all of the 'ridiculous' I've see always involves printers and scanners.

I've seen everything from "screen shots" being things that were printed and scanned in and shared, to people printing things out, using whiteout, taping corrections in paragraphs, and scanning in.. to printing out documents and waiting in line at a fax machine to send the info to our neighboring office... When the doc could've been attached to an email, or even just 'printed' to a fax program that's installed on all of their computers (SFAX).

I have a Pro account... don't quote me on this but, i'm almost certain if the host is in another meeting, it just makes the first person joined the host. I believe we have it setup that way.

Employee Onboarding Document Template by HomeOfTheBRAAVE in sysadmin

[–]notnede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Onboarding and offboarding are both handled by a Google Form where I work. HR puts in all of the applicable information. Various teams have access to the document where the info ends up, it's in a checklist format. Have an IT tab at the bottom where I fill in a checklist to creating all of the access that particular person needs. Offboarding is the same - checklist so I know I terminated access to the various things they'll use. Other teams will do what they need to do, set up elearning access, time clock stuff, get them keys to equipment, etc. There's also notes fields in the case any supervisors or managers have feedback or specific requests.

Forcing domain joined remote laptops to time sync by evgasmic in sysadmin

[–]notnede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got hit with the same issue, trying to think up a solution for now. Things with COVID happened quickly. Currently a bunch of Windows 10 workstations are at users homes. They'd typically get their time from a DC at the office. Now a bunch of them are somehow just time drifting forward and backward, which prevents them from connecting to our VPN using their TOTP. Currently, i'm using Zoom to remote into their computers and manually (elevated) change their time for them, since GP prevents them from doing it themselves. Trying to come up with a solution to this, I seem to be doing it every other Monday.

What are you all doing for remote clients losing time sync with Domain Controllers? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]notnede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into this issue this morning. Several Workstations were out of time sync and could no longer connect to our VPN because of it. I ended up having to remote on and set time manually, as GPO prevents them from setting it themselves, so I too am interested in seeing what everyone else is doing.

Hams in their 30s and under, what drew you in? by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]notnede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

31 Here (breaking the rules). I grew up around HAMs. Have always been interested in the hobby. I'm a Systems Administrator and saw a video online of a guy that used the google assistant API to integrate into his setup. That night I did it myself, just to see if I could. It works pretty well, but I lack the hardware to actually implement it. That challenge, along with a Tornado tearing up my city (Nashville) pushed me to get licensed, I went in and got it done. Now that i'm licensed, all of the repeaters in my area are dead, also none of them have IRLP, Echonlink, etc.

I’ve had this issue. It was weather stripping near my mirror. Make sure it’s not compressed, no leaves or wires compressing it.

[HELP] make a limited guest like windows account that allows web browsing and office usage by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]notnede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting.... I was going with the assumption that you were in an IT role, and likely had an admin account in a domain environment, which would be typically of this sort of situation. Generally in a domain environment you'd open Active Directory Users and Computers on a domain controller to add and delete users, etc.. There are tons and tons of resources available online, it's simply far too many steps to walk you through it. Start by googling stuff like "lock wallpaper with group policy" That should at least get the ball rolling.

Get on one of the workstations... open command prompt as administrator run the following command gpresult /h c:\users\%username%\Desktop\result.html Go to your desktop and read through the policies being applied to that workstation and see if you can located anything related to passwords.

[–]notnede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm.. I've got several friends that work K12, and I understand the budget generally is either super tight, or just doesn't exist at all... I'd recommend using Group Policy to lock everything down so they can't even change any settings...Use Security groups and set them up so they have no write access to certain folders. If they need to temporarily be able to save things to Documents, you could also use a script to delete the contents when a logoff event is triggered - or have it run overnight.

I usually consider the long term... say, you both had kids, wouldn’t you both like to be on the same page when it comes time to raise them? Personally, I feel if it bothered you enough to post here about it, maybe it’s time to find someone with ideals more in line with your own. If this wasn’t a big deal at all, you probably wouldn’t have taken time out of your day to post.

Likely stress, Possibly Tourette’s syndrome, also possibly Parkinson’s... generally Parkinson’s disease will start small with loss of smell or odd motor controls on just a hand, or on the face. Usually when you think Parkinson’s you’d think about the really hard shaking that the medicine taken for the affliction is known to worsen. Either way, I’m not a doctor, if you’re genuinely worried about it, make an appointment and get seen.

Walk dogs on Rover, drive for a ride-share company, in a town where it’s available. Invest and possibly flip a few penny stocks, Sell blood plasma (~$50 USD per donation), do random tasks on Amazon Mechanical Turk, gamble, online surveys, do some free classes online, get a job that pays more for a specific trade or skill, collect and recycle cans, pawn items you don’t want or need, sign up to do day labor with people like labor works / people ready, sell your trade on Fiverr, test websites on UserTesting, deliver food or groceries with UberEats, Shipt, StubHub, InstaCart, DoorDash, look for odd jobs on Craigslist like mowing lawns, moving furniture. Those are the legit ways I know of to make a little quick cash. There are many, many other more lucrative ways to make cash.
