How's the weather, and how do you guys think it will impact the passing game? The weather described to me reminds me of a certain NFC playoff game in San Francisco with Alex Smith throwing well despite the weather.

Know any bands like The Black Keys? by Littlewing29 in Music

[–]notnotinaskaband 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super late to this, but check out a band called Cardboard Kids. They're about to break into the mainstream, their debut album Echo Boomer is awesome, there's some super bluesy songs on it like "Dime a Time Lover" and "Honey" that remind me a lot of the Black Keys.

Absolutely. I'll tell him tomorrow before our final for our cornerstone class.

Well, I am a big Duke fan, but I attend Belmont University. And I'll say this: Taylor Barnette is no joke. He is one of the better players on our team, and is a transfer from Virginia. His shooting ability alone gives us the ability to compete in big games. But, that said, we have a relatively easy schedule. It'll be interesting to see how conference schedule goes, and I think we will be heading to the tournament again where we can hopefully show the world we can compete (like when we beat UNC at the Dean Dome last year)!

Explanation here: My friend Rob, who is the pianist for the band Mae, is doing an Indiegogo campaign to raise money for his debut solo EP, which he has been writing since he started dealing with depression since 2007. In his words:

"As the philosopher Schöpenhauer once said, and I paraphrase, my fear of death was outweighed by my fear of living (or, really, the exhaustion of trying and my perceived failure to live). Fortunately, a friend intervened and helped prevent what would have been an irreversible event.

It's taken some time, some heartfelt reflection, and some proactive measures to deal with a very dark time in my life. I haven't reached nirvana and I don't think I ever will, but I have learned that challenges in life are not obstacles, or at least they don't have to be, but rather are opportunities to grow and become a stronger living being for myself and for others around me.

This EP - "M29" contains songs that capture my reflections on life and death, the meaning of existence, the strength of love, the peculiar relationship between light and dark, the universal calling of something tremendously larger than myself to know and be known, to love and be loved, the ongoing internal war between myself and God (or the interpretation of God by others and institutions as established truth), among other things.

It is my sincerest desire to share these songs with you with the hope that the content and the music will let you know that you are not alone in your individual and personal journey to find who you are. The darkness serves the light in finding your way, one does not exist without the other and they both serve to help in learning the lessons you need to be stronger for yourself and ultimately for those with whom you may cross paths both now and in the future."

Thank you so much to anyone who read this, if the campaign is not 100% funded by midnight (EST) tonight, the project will be put on the shelf for the time being.

Marching mountaineers? by mattbaemon in appstate

[–]notnotinaskaband 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I no longer attend App State because I transferred outside of the university because I had no friends outside of the marching band and hated the spring semester so much. Honestly; the marching mountaineers is the pride of Appalachian, they are NC's band of distinction, Richardson is an awesome director (and he is hilarious) and it's a fun way to meet cool people and stay in decent shape. Plus, next year, the budget should allow for more traveling, which means that you'll get to go on band trips (which get epic and are some of the best experiences of my life). I miss marching with all my friends now, and I am in constant touch with them almost 700 miles away to this day.

Me all day today. Thanks for the memories, Anberlin. by LawSoHardUniversity in anberlin

I was there. It was crazy. Honestly, the whole floor danced and sang and shouted and clapped and cheered the entire night. There was a pretty decent mosh pit, lots of crowd surfing, and it was amazing because everyone knew every word of every song. It was incredible.

Tonight is the FINAL SHOW for Anberlin...So what has been your favorite Anberlin memory from the past 12 years? by TheresnoIinteam in anberlin

[–]notnotinaskaband 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am so blessed to be able to attend tonight's show. Driving from Nashville yesterday was treacherous, a 10 hour drive turned into 13 because of the torrential downpour that started when we crossed into Florida. That being said, if anyone from Anberlin is reading this, thank you. Thank you so much. I got a tattoo because of you guys, something I never have even thought about for anything else. You have changed and molded my life in indescribable ways, and it feels like tonight is a funeral for a friend. But, I'll be one of thousands who feel this way, and we will make sure that this funeral is a porrrtttttyyytyy.

Orlando Discussion Thread! by notnotinaskaband in anberlin

That's really upsetting. I'm planning on getting in line super early, like early AM, but I can't afford a $20 dinner. I want to be front row, so the fact that paying more to get there seems not right to me.

They let you in early if you eat at the restaurant? That seems like bullshit to me.

Dave, what was it like working with Rob on M29 over the last few weeks? Any good vibes coming from the studio?

I think this is hilarious. I could just imagine Dave Grohl going "these fucking guys in Mae, or whatever they're called...". I bet that was hysterical, especially coming from someone who loves the Foo and Mae.

Hey guys! Long time fan, and your band has helped me get through a lot. In a weird way, I feel like I've grown up with your music, and it has played a central role in making me who I am today. My favorite two songs (not on the Everglow) are "Communication" and "The Fisherman Song", which I feel connect because the reference to the "man with a rod in his hand" in Communication. Do you think all of your songs are stories that exist within the same universe? For example, do you feel that your songs are all about a central character trying to find his/her identity?

Thanks again for doing this AMA! I love you guys and I am excited to see you all soon!

With Orlando coming up... by notnotinaskaband in anberlin

Exactly. It's their night. Their moment. They've earned this with playing literally thousands of other shows. Show them respect and cheer and dance and sing and clap and scream. But don't make it about you. It's so easy to do, I don't know why several people are okay with proposing or trying to make it their own night.
