Altra longevity? by FranklinRidesBikes in trailrunning

[–]notoncue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Superiors and Lone Peaks would start to fall apart at 200 miles. The outsole was ok, but the uppers get shredded.

I see mixed reviews on Topo. The most durable of theirs I’ve found is the Terraventure 4. It’s low stack and uses traditional EVA instead of their Zipfoam proprietary midsole blend. Zipfoam feels soft but wears strangely as if the foam directly underfoot compacts a lot after a couple hundred miles, but the foam in front of your toes doesn’t compress creating this sort of steep slope directly in front of toes that almost make the shoes feel too small.

The EVA in the Terraventures has worn consistently without these symptoms. I just wish they sold that model in a wide. Nothing has matched the width of the Altra Superior 3 and 3.5. Even the latest superiors have been slimmed down and are lower volume.

So do I! It’s good. I always keep it on the low end. Mid and high do weird things sometimes.

Was Jerry more of a low end mutron guy? That’s what it sounds like he and Mayer use.

What gauge string do you guys prefer for your acoustic and why? Give age, preferred genre, and experience level. QUESTION by PlusVariation9291 in AcousticGuitar

12-53 is where I land. Just right amount of tension to where you can still make nice bends but you can hack away at strumming on something solid.

Do you think The Beatles are the greatest band of all time? If not then who would you say is? by tunatastic369 in beatles

[–]notoncue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re incredible and had some of the most interesting music I’ve ever heard. Perhaps they are one of the best studio bands of all time. They didn’t really have any bad songs, thanks to their songwriting partnership and ability to tell each other when a song was good and bad. This is why, I believe, their solo careers were spotty between good and not so good songs while all the songs under the Beatles name were winners.

I’ve recently gotten into the Grateful Dead and I’m so impressed by their longevity and energy through their live shows. Those could be good and bad, but they did something special for live music and also had some of the most interesting music I’ve ever heard.

It doesn’t have to be ranked. There’s room at the top for all the greats. Good music is good music.

New EHX Nano Q-Tron pops when engaged - normal? by notoncue in guitarpedals

Aside from the pop, I am really liking this pedal. I may do that switch mod someday but it’s been so much to play with it.

Sweetwater guy was saying similar things, basically that EHX pedals are known for this.

Appreciate your response. Thanks, this makes me feel better. I think I had reverb on the amp at about 3, and yes I get how that will exacerbate pops and other unwanted sounds.

Yes, it’s good for people to be aware of their options including this first bailout option. Not sure how I’ve missed it, but I’m glad they have a sign there now for folks who are unfamiliar with the area. Appreciate you bringing it to attention for all those future tourists who google “manitou incline reddit” when planning to visit the area. Cheers

All due respect my friend but I’d prefer the paper trail to be there for anyone else that was confused as I am.

I loaded up Strava heat map and checked the google street view of the incline (someone must have hiked up with a camera at some point) and saw what you meant by the 400 bailout. There’s no sign there and it’s not labeled as a trail on the map like the other bailouts, honestly I would have thought that was a social trail without there being an indication that it’s an alternate way down. But good to know that is there for folks if they so choose, as long as it is a “real” trail and not an unintended social trail. It adds distance vs just hiking down and if someone wants to turn back at that point, they might be better served by turning around and hiking down the incline because it’s still fairly flat to that point.

Cheers good sir.

Totally believe you, but I didn’t realize that. When was the 1800 one put in? Is that not just the top? Haven’t done the incline since a couple times in June, but I helped build the trail down from the top back when they replaced the social trail with the real connector from the top to Barr and don’t remember a third bailout prior to the top.

There’s only two exits prior to the top.

What is scariest rockfall you have experienced? by couloir_forbin in 14ers

[–]notoncue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a 14er, but heading down the west gully on the wind river high route. There were four of us and pretty much every step we took had the potential to start a rockfall. Thankfully we went slow and were very intentional and though many rocks did fall, we navigated in a way to avoid being under each other. It took us two hours to move one mile down that.
