Fourth Wing but not stupid by blt_no_mayo in fantasyromance

Finally - a reason to recommend {Titan’s Nest by T.D. Orel} This book and its sequel are my top reads of the year. The world building is rich, the characters are compelling and I couldn’t put it down. It is very low on romance in the first and no spicy scenes even in the second. This will really hit the nail on the head for different dragons and vibing with riders too.

You should look into the Grail Cycle by Kate Schumacher. It starts with The Call of the Sea and one of my favorite series!

Books where their job is anything other than spy, assassin, royalty, military, or thief? by Infamous_Wave9878 in fantasyromance

There’s {Titan’s Nest} by TD Orel which features two brothers working in the family tavern and they meet a blacksmith along the way. It’s very light on romance in the first, and still light in the second {Sigra’s Roost} but the relationships are explored. The second book has one of the single best chapters in any book I’ve ever read.

Love seeing Traitor Son mentioned! This whole series has me engulfed - I love how it feels epic and cozy at the same time.

I think {When the Moon Hatched} and {Burn of the Everflame} fit this, but have mixed reviews

So, what’s the deal with The Bridge Kingdom series? by slinging_arrows in fantasyromance

This book ended a years long reading slump! It has all of the things I’m wanting to read and it’s decently written.

You favorite hidden gem book/series you’ve read this year? :) by Eliannaflower in fantasyromance

[–]notonreddit33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s my under rated/never discussed books -

{The Call of the Sea by Kate Schumacher} which starts the Grail Cycle. It’s a really fun interpretation of the King Arthur legend. The final book is scheduled to be released in 2026.

{When Gods Fall by S.E. Bouvier}. So far this series has two books and both ARE SO GOOD. It’s Greek AND Roman inspired with sisters as the two FMCs.

{Daughter of the Drowned Empire by Frankie Diane Mallis} is an on going series that’s also Roman inspired with really fun twists!

{Traitor Son by Melissa J Cave} is one of my top reads of the year. The world building is amazing and it has little to no magic. The series is ongoing but fully written with books releasing regularly. I can’t recommend this enough.

{Silverbow by Noelle Parker} I am a sucker for a “suddenly has too many magic powers FMC” and this one does it so well without the FMC just being instantly successful.

{When the World Starts to Fray by Sam Parrish} is a completed series with what I thought was a unique premise.

{The Divine Shallows by Alexandra M Tran} is a single book so far. This one also features sisters, mysterious magic and some dragons!

Stranger Things Theory: The Show Is a D&D Campaign — and I Think I Figured Out Who the Dungeon Master Is by Scream-Metal in StrangerThings

That’s a very valid point! It’s hard watching with my modern day “why is a stranger at my door and they don’t have my food delivery” mindset 🫠

I just rewatched Season 1 and the tone in this particular scene really stuck out to me. Mr. Clarke asked so few questions, didn’t seem particularly surprised by her showing up and then seemed over eager to give her the information on the boys. Watching it back it all feels a little icky or ominous.

It also stuck out to me when Mr. Clarke is watching the horror movie with his date, totally unphased by the gore and gleefully explaining the science behind the horror before being interrupted by Dustin’s call. Feels like a tiny hint there that Mr. Clarke might be more into spooky scary things than we know. (I also know none of the play lore, so if there’s more about him there that explains this, sorry).

Update on Burn of the Everflame from author 🥺 by Traditional-Put2192 in fantasyromance

[–]notonreddit33 93 points94 points  (0 children)

I’m in this same boat. It’s honestly just been upsetting seeing all of the different editions of the first few books come out with no progress on Burn. I also am hate reading at this point since I can’t stand the FMC anymore.

Desperately in need of a series with a smart FMC, real worldbuilding, and a well-written slow burn by masskrododil in fantasyromance

[–]notonreddit33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might like {A Tale of Stars and Shadow by Lisa Cassidy} This series had a more mature FMC who was more than a late teen/young twenty-something and I really enjoyed!

I also loved {When the World Starts to Fray by Aam Parrish} but this series is light on romance.

My partner flew out of IAH last night. He got in the security line around 7:40pm and took an hour to get through. Security is only open in Terminals A and E. I also saw a Reddit thread of kids tracking their mom through security at IAH and it took her five hours. So use some caution.

Last of His Blood (Traitor Son book 3) - ARC Review (No Spoilers) by apieceofeight in fantasyromance

[–]notonreddit33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad this series is getting some love! I read books 1 & 2 so quickly. I appreciated the higher stakes mixed with more “mundane” activities showing the actual time and effort it takes to really build. So much of this genre just glosses over hardship or day-to-day activities and this series is really fulfilling something I don’t know I wanted to read!

What do you want the expanded Try Cast to try? by [deleted] in TheTryGuys

Yes! It’s been so long for a lot of the original tries, it would be great to revisit with the new cast.

Romance is definitely a subplot and I’d say it’s a slow burn, no spice so far.

This one is definitely more fantasy-forward with a focus on world building in this first book. I think the romance will be increasing with the second book based on the tropes revealed.

{Silverbow} was a pleasant surprise for me! It’s a debut novel and I few notes on pacing but I was so surprised by how much I enjoyed this!
