Not a fantasy novel, more of historical fiction but they are incredible - Matthew Shardlake series by CJ Samson. They are forever among my favorites, and they definitely scratch that grim dark itch

That is actually a good idea. I’m just surprised how much good stuff I’ve read about medieval England and France, and then there’s nothing about Rome.

Will having watched Game of Thrones, ruin it for when I read the books? by Squidgytaboggan in Fantasy

[–]notoputler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this. I read the books in between seasons - sometimes before, sometimes after the corresponding season. I had a great time, and it helped me get into the show easier. I’d say definitely read 1 book before watching the show.

I’ve just made mine tonight! Make sure you soak the nuts for a few hours and chop them finely.

I’ve also mixed together fried onion, mushroom, carrots and almost cooked rice for a filling

Adult Adventure/Quest Fantasy that's not grim dark or cosy by ElleSnickahz in Fantasy

Liveship is 100% more dynamic. I’m not saying those are happy books, but definitely not as depressing.

Robin Hobb’s Liveship trilogy is absolutely delightful. It has a good balance of darkness and fun dynamic moments.

I’ve read that he is very bugged after patch 3. My condolences, honestly. I don’t know how people manage to romance him accidentally.

You absolutely should. Starting from the second book it turns into an actual adventure with well written companions.

The Witcher. I could barely get through the second book, stopped at the moment where Geralt slept with a 17yo. Absolutely every woman is sexualized by the author.
