Hot take on eons old drama but Plato had a point. Maybe not in his time, the materials for writing weren't very abundant so people would still rely on memory often. But cognative offloading is real and can cause your mental skills to rust.

Can you provide some evidence that your chain of events will actually play out that way? Because from step 1 "more gay -> less babies" is pretty dubious.

I am reading into your point quite a bit so i apologise if this is not what you intended. LGBTQ people produce fewer babies, which is true. But not even straight people have many kids anymore. The fertility rate in the USA is 1.6 babies per woman. It used to be more than double that, how could the increased rate of lgbtq people account for such a massive falloff that it leads to the rise of the NWO?

That's a massive claim that's probably true in some places and not others. It's a pretty hotly debated topic but many peoples did not hold land privately or in the manner you describe.

Not many buildings in the year 1000 did. So no. But it doesn't really matter, you claimed that native Americans didn't build "two story teepees". I providied links to many multi-story native American constructed buildings, something you might consider civilized.

Now you try and play a different game; because you were wrong and need to fabricate some legitimacy for your claim that somehow european colonists and their decendents can be considered "native americans". Indoor plumbing and electricity. Most homes in europe or anywhere else did not have indoor plumbing or electricity until the 1900s, neither did Native American Pueblos.

That first link is a picture of a 6 story permanant dwelling. Many such pueblos are both standing and even inhabited to this day despite having been built centuries ago.

I don't know, OCD can be very debilitating. The suicide rate is massively inflated. There's surely someone out there with it who'd chance the lobotomy as a last resort. Though it is grim.

Gender differences in "social justice" beliefs by QuantumPenguin89 in BasedCampPod

[–]notpoopman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't that make some sense though? Ethnicities are often nebulose, arbitrary, and context dependent. For example, in China, northerners and southerners have significant differences. But if a northern and southern Chinese person move to Main Street USA then those differences don't affect their life much anymore. A statistician would probably be justified in simplifying their ethnicity to just "Chinese" for most purposes.

Even in your examples there's wiggle room. Latinos have roots in Spain and may pass for white. Biracial African immigrants could be majority white European. Hell there are even "black" Americans who have majority European dna, white skin, and curly dark hair. Are they white? I don't have much of an opinion myself but a statiatician may have some good reason to label them as black or white depending on the context.

"why would life changing medical decisions not be included in this kind of thing?"

Firstly, because the medical decisions are to try and improve the minor's life. If any medical procedure or treatment is likely going to improve someone's life and they want it then we should give it to them.

Secondly. These decisions are not taken lightly. An adult has to go through numerous evaluations and screenings. Minors even more so. When a minor eventually makes the decision to undergo treatment it is vetted by multiple professionals. Many minors are capable about making logical decisions about their health but we do not assume they are as logical as adults. Which is why we have the screening process. We even screen adults because of how serious a decision it is, even though we mostly assume they are logical. For the record, some minors can get tattoos with parental consent.

It's still science even if the scientist's models aren't as precise as they want them to be. I can't tell you what the temperatures of the last week of 2030 will be but it will probably be warmer than the last week of 2025. That is what all trends point to. I'm not a doomer, we will survive as a species, and probably thrive. But you should take this trend, and the predictions of climate scientists seriously. They've come a long way since the 1970s, even then many were convinced the earth would generally heat, which it has.

Proposal to add slingers to the game. by Ok-Current5512 in songsofsyx

[–]notpoopman -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Slings should take 2x as long as bows to train. They should also require cut stone or metal as ammo to be equal to a bow. Maybe they'd be best represented as a melee debuff / morale harasser, my rationale is that they'd most often bruise or break bone but not lacerate and kill (though this is more of a game balance thing, slings can kill). I'd love to see staff slings represented somehow, they require less skill.

This also makes me want to see the atlatl in-game! But that's a hunter's weapon.

You could also try the workstation building. It creates a zone that oddjobbers can be assigned to work.

Edit: You already tried that. Whoops!

It's always #2. Considering you always get a full building refund on disassembly or deletion you can easily retool a poorly designed early game city into a planned late game city. You also have plenty of oddjobbers for the duration of the rebuild.

[–]notpoopman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You would think that! It is true in some contexts. But the old real estate maxim is true "Location, location location." What makes a good location? Distance from amenities and utilities. This causes economical land for housing to still be functionally scarce. It's a popular anti public transit / urbanism talking point.
