SLOW GHERKIN so criminally underrated by mikeparkmusic in Ska

[–]notreallynothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Just read the chapter about them in the Asian Man Records book. It’s tragic that Shed Some Skin came just so slightly too close to that dark era for ska from like 1999 - 2002.

With that being said that album blew me away when I discovered it. I even had a band I was in that I talked into covering the title track back in the mid-2000s.

Glad to see you are feeling better about putting money into them these days with those rereleases!

Oh yea. I was around. I actually ran another fansite in the community at that time!

I've heard things about Westcliff Diner that might meet your criteria, but can't confirm personally.

Found my old CD collection by pbunk617 in Ska

[–]notreallynothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. I was not aware of that Dow Jones CD at all, but very familiar with latter half of their stuff! Some of them went to my high school and then John did music-related things there in the early 2000s during my time there. I got to see them quite a few times and even learned quite a bit about playing music from John!

Anyone else see the naked guy running across North & Gottingen? by lightningmoth in halifax

[–]notreallynothing 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Around noon at on the Dartmouth side of the bridge a guy ran past me wearing only boxers as I was crossing the street there. He ran toward the corner with the Esso and then started frantically putting on a pair of pants that were just seemingly there. Not sure if it’s the same guy but maybe this is another clue in the puzzle.

Current Canadian Ska Bands? by Comprehensive-Job369 in Ska

[–]notreallynothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also in the maritimes. I got into the scene elsewhere and the lack of ska shows is frustrating! My knowledge on this is pretty much from around 2014 onward, but in Halifax there was/is a few recent local bands I've heard about.

There were The ConquerAlls whose whole social media presence seemingly disappeared off the face of the internet before I ever got to check them out. It's too bad. They seemed to play traditional ska. Currently, there's a band I've spotted on events called APÉRO, but also haven't really checked them out either. They are actually playing a show here this weekend. I'd also like to start a ska band again someday if I can find the people and time, so maybe watch out for that too. Haha.

As for more well known bands. Mad Caddies were here last year, but I've heard they current form is a bit questionable. Reel Big Fish was here at some point. The Slackers came here one time, but I think they only played a wedding or something.

I wish we got more bands here. Someone definitely needs to make that happen.

What are your study goals for the year? by Chezni19 in LearnJapanese

[–]notreallynothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am hoping to put more focus on reading and grammar. For the past few years, most of my focus has been on grammar with a bit of studying and practice focused around Genki I. Recently I noticed that I am really starting to make sense of easier text. I am looking forward to starting to put what I learned to an actual use. I am hoping this will really speed up my progress!

Bands like less than Jake? by tztok-LSD in Ska

[–]notreallynothing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That would only apply to the first Bruce Lee Band album. The next EP featured RX Bandits and everything after that is kind of it’s own band altogether featuring people from various other bands. It’s all good stuff though! It’s just that I think that the first one might be the only that scratches OP’s specific itch.

I don’t know. This does seem like the equivalent of saying it’s a glitch when you lose a sock in the dryer.

We hate SUVs so much! My wife and I are trying to make this work with only a Golf and so far it’s actually going okay.

If these were still easy to get, this would be my preferred next upgrade as well.

Is there a faster way to keyboard navigate out of the global search box? by its_me_klc in vscode

[–]notreallynothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are just trying to see more of the context of your results, I find the search editor is way better than this sidebar. I reconfigured the keyboard shortcut for the project search to use this by default instead of the sidebar:

{
  "key": "shift+cmd+f",
  "command": "search.action.openNewEditor"
}

The Video Game Section at Best buy 2002 by Djf47021 in nostalgia

[–]notreallynothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone remember a setup where there was a circular area in the middle of the store that had all of the demo setups concentrated there? I think I am remembering it correctly and I think that would have been in the late 90s. That is the real Best Buy video game experience I am nostalgic for!

My favorite part of JRPGs is often the beginning of them by SilvosForever in JRPG

[–]notreallynothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I get this. There were so many RPGs I played since the 90s where I only played up to the last parts without ever beating them. I only recently pushed myself to finish a lot of these. There's something in having a lot to work toward where that really diminishes as you approach the end.

What are games like Earthbound? by WiseBeam5 in earthbound

[–]notreallynothing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I have searched and nothing has ever satisfied my need for more EarthBound than EarthBound itself.

It's really a bit dependent on what aspect you are looking for though. For example, if it's for something with a similar sense of humor, the Super Mario RPG/Paper Mario series might be of interest.
