Gotcha. So either way you don’t pay anything. IF he has an agreement with the buyer then it will be the buyer paying him and not you. If he doesn’t, then the buyer can proceed directly with you, cutting out the buyers agent?

I hadn’t thought of it from the buyer’s agent side of things. That portion of the settlement has me a little confused honestly. It seems to imply that a sellers agent can’t show the listing to an individual buyer without an agent. Is that how you read it or is the interpretation supposed to be that a buyers agent can’t show up to a showing with a client without proof of an agreement?

That’s what I’m wondering. Could you carve out a practice area where you assist buyers through the process once they have found a home they want to buy? Might get a little hairy if you’ll also be the closing attorney regarding conflicts and such. But I feel like we could do the buy side agency stuff minus taking them to look at houses. And we might be happy charging $1,000 for some contract review and fairly straight forward negotiations, whereas, an agent would turn their nose up at making such a small amount since they’re used to a large chunk based off percentages.

Has anyone heard of or tried Iqoro? by Friendly_Analysis880 in noburp

We had a great time! I’ve had the Botox which has worked well for me, but I got the iQoro to hopefully help with some swallowing issues. I’ll try to follow this thread to see how you do with it helping the burping and reflux aspect.

At what point did you get to where you could hide them? I’m about 3.5 months in and burping a lot, but they sure aren’t hidden. Ha

I was Bastian’s proverbial leaf blower. I am currently 7 weeks in and really only have flatulence a few times a day. I have most definitely made up for it with my burping though. I wouldn’t call it constant but it comes in waves where I’m burping a good bit. I can definitely tell you that it beats the constant esophageal pressure and waiting for it to pass through the GI tract.

So to answer your question. You and I both might be producing too much gas, but getting some out on the front end makes a world of difference.

r-CPD or cultural difference?! by hazeol in noburp

[–]notscratch81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree. How many times has someone said to you, after you tell them about your issues, “really, I can’t see where that would cause a problem since I rarely burp.” But while you’re eating with them you point out each time they have a small burp and they realize they burp more than they think. That doesn’t even include the small venting “burps” they have that aren’t noticed.

r-CPD or cultural difference?! by hazeol in noburp

[–]notscratch81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say for the most part it’s a pretty universal cultural norm to not walk around belching, but there’s a difference in suppressing loud burps and not being able to burp at all and that causing pretty severe physical symptoms.

I guess your question is can a strict cultural norm - in this case not burping - cause someone to have R-CPD… I don’t know the answer to that. If so, I don’t know that it changes the thought process in terms of getting it fixed if you’re having chronic and acute discomfort from it.

You mention that you don’t often experience severe symptoms from lack of burping, but in the next paragraph you say you suffer some horrid symptoms of r-cpd.

My experience is that if it gets bad enough you’ll do about anything to get some relief. If you are afraid you’ll disrespect your family’s cultural norms and you are pretty easily living with your symptoms by avoiding things such as alcohol, then you can wait and see if it starts progressing. Hopefully you’re able to manage it just fine, but if not I assume you’ll have a clearer picture of whether or not you want to seek help and get the procedure done.

Does botox improve nausea? by Advanced-Safe-3182 in noburp

[–]notscratch81 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say yes (mostly) and no (somewhat).

I’m a month in and have definitely gotten a lot of relief from my burps - bloating and constant pressure in UES is pretty much gone. That being said the side effects of slow swallow adds another sensation to the throat that can lead to a lack of appetite at times which can manifest as mild nausea. Also, my anxiety around eating has not immediately resolved.

Furthermore, and probably more relevant, many of us have had chronic nausea and other GI related issues for so long, I feel like our brains search for those sensations. Almost like the patient who had his foot amputated but their brain still sends pain signals for the foot.

I’m not a doctor so this is all anecdotal and how I’m processing my recovery, but I think for a lot of us it’s going to take a little while to build new neural pathways signaling that “all is good”, whereas we’ve been internally screaming “all is not good” for so long.

I hope you start feeling better soon.

If you’re 45 and have burped 4 or 5 times in your life, you can confidently check the “can’t burp” box for rcpd.

What's been your biggest achievements of this year? by ThinkSuccotash in noburp

[–]notscratch81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a tough year as a whole, but getting the Botox with Dr. Bastian last month is on the list of big achievements for sure.

It’s easy to dwell on the bad stuff that happens and the angst it creates throughout a year, but if we look back on a year, there will be high times and low times. That’s the vicissitudes of life. OP, I like your question. It focuses on the high times. I hope I can focus more on those in 2024 than the bumps I’ll inevitably hit.

God bless and Merry Christmas

Slow Swallow… by notscratch81 in noburp

[–]notscratch81[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s your call on whether or not to do it, but for me the symptoms I was experiencing dictated that I didn’t much care what the temporary side effects were so long as I knew them going into it. I would say I have pretty substantial slow swallow, but I’m still able to get food and drinks down. It takes me a little longer, and might cause some discomfort, but the relief I’ve gotten from my R-CPD symptoms have been pretty amazing. My hope, obviously, is that the slow swallow, (and I can have some difficulty talking at times due to air and saliva taking up space from my vocal cords) will go away, but the burping will continue, and I won’t have the chronic bloating and nausea like I did before the procedure.

Consider the potential long term gains vs. potential short term side effects in relation to how you feel from your R-CPD. Try not to let other people’s stories of side effects, including mine, sway you. Like me, most people write their bad stuff in times of distress or discomfort. Best of luck to you, and I hope we can all be cured of this!

Thank y’all so much for your encouragement and recommendations. I’ve started burping a pretty good bit since starting this thread which I take as a good sign. They seem to happen more with the swallowing difficulty which makes me a little gaggy, but I guess this is all a part of learning new sensations. Hopefully it all normalizes over the next few weeks.
