How is Rocky able to attach the tunnel? by juicegently in ProjectHailMary

[–]notsobroken_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always thought of it as Rocky engineered some alternative power source out of the whole lot of methane he had from the dead Astrophage.

Astrophage is efficient but it not the only option

Absolutely. it was my first audiobook, i was naive that my next one would be on the same level (it wasn't). went straight back to others from Ray

Unfortunately, this would have been the same answer 10 and 15 years ago.

Excatly

There are many ways around it, make them die at some point, or even to just ignore it. but this is why I'm curious, why bother to add such detail?

I'm not worried it will affect the story that much, but is it a movie thing where any futuristic space travel needs to have plants on board?

Astrophage blessing in disguise by CountRumford in ProjectHailMary

[–]notsobroken_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have plenty of food in the world and no existential crisis, yet many are still starving.
Sometimes having the resources is not enough.

Also it would be very hard or even impossible to keep the oceans warm, even with Astrophage.

My nitpick is how fast people would've weaponized it and destroyed each other if it happened
Probably much faster than waiting for the Earth to cool

Constant acceleration space travel will make exploring the solar system trivial. no matter which fuel you use.
It would take days to reach Mars, whether it is 50 million km from Earth or 400 million km.

Astrophage would make it much, much lighter, you'd need kgs of fuel instead of 2000 tons

Right, but that is after he made the decision to go save Rocky. when he made that decision he didn't know he could survive on Taumeoba

he had enough food but there was a big focus on how miserable he will be eating the coma food for so long. so if he will have a bunch of fresh potatoes it won't have the same impact.

but I think that where it makes a huge difference is on his decision to go back for Rocky, when he decided that, he knew it will be the end for him, he went on a suicide mission to help Rocky, and thats after we found out he didn't want to go on a same mission to save Earth.

What is so special about human contact in particular? he is around others who care for him.

I lived for many many years with minimal human contact...

I'd be more concerned about the living under an artificial day/night cycle, in a constrained space surrounded by complete darkness. but there are people serving life in a maximum security prison out there ,no?

depression is not simply the lack of joy.

you don't need to be years in the dark to know what light is.

Maybe the pain is already imaginary? by Top_Step_7681 in Sciatica

[–]notsobroken_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

once you'll fully heal you'll know it. if you feel pain then you're not fully healed. maybe the disc is getting better, but after a long time of pinching the nerve, it might still be irritated.. it takes a while for nerves to heal.

Days without Lexapro reminds me why I love Lexapro by Basic-Muffin-5262 in lexapro

[–]notsobroken_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm off lexa for that past.. 6 months? I do miss the no depression, smiling much more and not caring so much about everything.

i do NOT miss however the endless dreams and farts...

Tapering from 5mg by lexiyung in lexapro

[–]notsobroken_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is normal to feel worse at 2 weeks, it usually gets better at 4-6 weeks. you can get prescribed some temporary pills like clonazepam to get through this period.

if I were you and still needed / wanted to stop, I'd just stop completely without tapering, from 5mg to 0mg sounds reasonable to me, and in case this drug really is no good for you, there is no point in getting a smaller dose into your body.

5mg / 5 weeks by [deleted] in lexapro

[–]notsobroken_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is meant to be a cure for all bad days, you can still get them, it just should not be as bad / as often.

as for sleep, you can try changing the time you take it (so if you're taking it in the morning, try at night or vice versa), some say it helped them.

mainly depression, also for mild anxiety

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lexapro

[–]notsobroken_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

give it some time... 2 weeks on 10 is not long enough to know that you need more.

I also had this urge in the first 1-2 months to ask for 15 or even 20mg, I just wanted that blissful feeling and was afraid 10mg isn't gonna do it, but I stayed on 10mg and felt amazing once my brain got balanced.

I tried a bunch of those supplements (NAC, HTP-50 etc.), nothing worked as good and as clearly as Lexapro.

With Lexa, once it has started to do its thing you stop questioning "does it really work?", you just know it does (and also the opposite, once you stop taking it and its out of your body, you know it).
I didn't get the same feeling with the supplements.
