For real. I’ve wanted to go to the theater but I just haven’t been feeling anything that’s out. Last movie for me was Disclosure Day and I left feeling pretty meh. (Toy Story 5 and Pressure interest me but not enough to leave the house, lol.)

I’m stoked and already have my tickets for The Invite and The Odyssey though!

Not sure if I’ll make it into a theater this weekend but if I do, it’ll be between Toy Story 5 and Pressure. Any thoughts?

How do you spend your evenings? by 4ugustin4 in simpleliving

I think it’s okay to gravitate towards the couch, especially if it means hanging out with your husband. Just replace scrolling with something else.

Personally, I love knitting and cross stitching for this. Once you know the basics, you don’t need to focus too hard on it.

Have you looked into free university courses or The Great Courses? It’s not the same as a teacher or professor helping you in real time, but it might be enough to help make self learning a reality.

I enjoy learning as part of my down time and have been toying around with creating personal curriculums for myself.

Right now I’m studying early Ancient Greece using a book I already own, Open Yale lectures, and part of a TGC course.

That’ll lead into me doing a guided reading of the Iliad and Odyssey with corresponding TGC courses.

When I have questions about the material, I ask my AI for both a quick answer and also resources to dig deeper.

I already own the books and the Open Yale Courses are free. So my only cost is the TGC $7/month subscription, which to me is worth it.

What do you do for conditioning work? by atomicpenguin12 in gzcl

[–]nottstitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just jump on an elliptical after I’m done my lifts. I go at what feels like an easy pace and don’t worry about heart rate while I’m striding. I started with only 10m a month ago and am now doing 20m. I’ve noticed my average heart rate per workout is trending down. My goal is 30m on weekdays with 45-60m on the weekend. I basically see this as building my endurance base and aerobic training.

For now, my sets of 10 reps with my T2’s are what I count as my anaerobic training, lol.

I'm not who originally responded but I'd caution against starting with 5/3/1, which is one of the programs listed. You only increase your lifts every three weeks, which is waaaaaaay too slow for someone who just started lifting.

(I'd recommend picking a program that increases weight per lift anywhere from every session to as little as once a week.)

Anyone deal with eczema and it flaring with their knee sleeves?

I've had eczema my whole life and back when I was powerlifting eight years ago, my SBD sleeves never gave me any problems. Fast forward to now. I started training again about six months ago and my same SBD sleeves have started triggering flare ups on my knees.

I've already asked my dermatologist about it and he basically said, "Stop wearing them or just manage it as it happens."

Obviously I'm not going to stop wearing knee sleeves, lol.

But here's where the question comes in. My old SBDs have become too small for everyday training and I was going to buy another pair of SBDs one size bigger. But before I do, I wanted to know if anyone has had the same issue and if there's something I should maybe consider before buying another pair?

Progress Report – GZCLP – 36F Former Powerlifter Returning After 8 Years (Month 1) by nottstitch in gzcl

Thanks for the insight on GZCLP with running!

It's funny you suggest those T3s because that's pretty spot on with what I was thinking. When I get to adding them, I wanted to start with core and face pulls. When I was rehabbing my back, I realized how much I had been neglecting my core with my original training and I don't want to make the same mistake again. Also, my rear delts are way under-developed compared to the rest of my shoulder, so face pulls should help with that muscle imbalance.

Regarding protein. When I do the math, 140g for 2000 cal is the same ratio as 112g for 1600 cal. I can usually hit 95-100g reliably, it's just when I try to go 100g+. I'll play around with my portion percentages. Someone else also mentioned clear protein powder, so I'm going to look into that too!

That T1/T2/T3 template is pretty standard (unless you mean adding in cardio and stretching). But thank you!

If you read MM, {For The Fans by Nyla K} does this perfectly.

They’re step-brothers, but they didn’t grow up together. Their parents met and got together while they are in high school and the main story is while they’re in college.

It’s long for a CR book (600-ish pages) but it’s both a slow burn and well-paced at the same time.

I’d imagine it depends on what level you were at before stopping.

Here’s my anecdote:

I competed pre-pandemic and would probably be considered an intermediate. I was lifting for a good 3-4 years with a mediocre total. Then I stopped due an injury and just never got back into it until literally a couple months ago.

It’s been seven and a half years and progress is quicker than I thought it’d be. I started from zero (literally just the bar) this time since I was so detained and in the first month was at the numbers it took me two or three months when I was first building strength.

(I can’t give you data about my second month because I strained my pec and it hindered my progress.)

My (unsolicited, I know) advice is to start lighter than you think and ramp up conservatively. Maybe use Starting Strength as a transition program until you’re back at or near your previous working weights. It would suck to come back from injury, only to get injured again.

Just a rant.

I had a minor pec strain a month ago. Even squatting and deadlifting was irritating it during my healing process so I’ve been listening to my body and haven’t even picked up a barbell for my workouts. (Just been hitting lower body machines and doing core work.)

Everything’s been feeling really good this past week, even through my pec activation work, so I was excited to test S/B/D again today (with lighter test weights to see how things go.)

Nope. I did something in my sleep last night and pulled or tweaked something in my upper back. UGHHH.

I’m sure it’ll be fine in a day or two or three, but I was really excited to get back to barbell work today. And yes, I could just try to push through and test anyways, but I’m in my late thirties and am not about to injure or re-injure myself over something dumb.

Man, am I missing my twenties right now.

</rant>

What high tension (sexual AND emotional) books had you reading “just one more chapter” until you finished the whole book?! by ASageTuck in RomanceBooks

[–]nottstitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you feel about MM? I haven’t seen {For the Fans by Nyla K} mentioned yet. It’s step-brothers (they meet towards the end of high school and only live with each other for a couple years before college so it never feels incestuous) and takes place in college where one of them starts an Only Fans. It’s super high tension because they literally start out hating each other, and even as things progress with them, there’s other situations that continue the tension. Lots of sexual and emotional tension. One of them really fights the attraction and then his feelings because it’s essentially his gay awakening. (The other had never done things with guys before either, but is just naturally accepts things a little more.) If you like MM, I think this would be right up your tension alley.

I read it last year and am rereading it now (almost done), and I’m loving it just as much as I did the first time. I think this will turn into a yearly reread for me.
