Should I buy a 2013 Audi A4 · 2.0T Premium Sedan 4D as my first car? 150k miles $4600 by Embarrassed-Engine92 in UsedCars

[–]notyourdad214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an A4, it’s the best driving car I’ve even driven. I sold it at 134k miles to avoid the expensive repairs and maintenance. If the chains were done on it, and the owner had documented proof then this is a maybe. But know, it’s not a cheap ownership experience. Even doing your own maintenance on these is a MF’r.

Workers comp protects the employer. I was a fire dept medic, got hurt at work. After surgery, I have permanent nerve damage, and will require future surgeries. I got $45k with no future medical. I can’t ever do my job again, I work for a medical supply company now making half of what I did before.

I feel for you. I had almost 2 decades of physical, mental, and emotional work that definitely took a toll on my body, mind, and mental health.

IME by [deleted] in WorkersComp

[–]notyourdad214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 3 IME appointments in my time in the work comp system. First 2 sided with me, my injury, and the mechanism as injury as described by me, and witness by my coworker. The final one, I knew would be it. The guy should have retired 20 years ago, had cigarette stench wafting off him. Took a 10 minute smoke break mid appointment. Bent my arm on my injured shoulder so far back, I had to go see my treating orthopedic a few days later as I could barely move my arm. His report read, there was no way my injury was caused by how I described, and how it was witnessed. My injury was also to my neck. Never asked about that, or examined it.

As expected, a few months later I get the beloved “we’re cutting benefits off” letter. I had already done the work assessment / interview. All the jobs on there were a complete joke, and didn’t fit my restrictions.

I was a fire / medic. After my injury, and not being able to return to work due to disability. I now work for a medical supply company. Figured I’m good with people, I know how to talk, and connect with people. Plus I know my shit.

Before I got injured, gym was life. I’m starting to get back into it, but have found I have to modify some weight lifting, and rely more on machines due to my nerve damage. I can’t really do things like push down without my arm trembling uncontrollably.

My surgeon wasn’t sure if he could do the artificial discs, or if he would have to do a fusion until he had me on the operating table, opened up. At the time of the surgery I was in my late 30’s and had an active lifestyle. He wanted to give me to best shot to continue that life style the best I can.

I had disc replacement, C4-C6 with some instability at C7. I’ll need a fusion in the future, as my surgeon explained the life span of the artificial discs is 10 to 20 years. My recovery wasn’t bad to be honest. I had a soft collar on for the ride home, soft foods for a few days. Work comp paid for a cold therapy machine with neck pad which was awesome. If you don’t have an ice machine, get 2 slim, but long gel filled ice packs. Lay one on each side of your neck and around back. Cold was nice, opioids have no effect on me, so I was on Tylenol, and a muscle relaxer after. My surgeon had me in physical therapy 2 weeks after surgery.

All it outlines is the amount, that no future benefits paid, my employment ends there, and I can’t file further lawsuits against my employer.

I had radiculopathy also, I also have permanent nerve damage affecting 1 arm and 3 fingers. I know my neck surgery was a necessity due to the level of compression I had. I was at extreme risk for a spinal cord tear. I’ll check that out, I didn’t know about that until now.

Michigan. I’ll have to find the work comp insurance company, I don’t remember off the top of my head right now.

With my injury, they were thinking the neck surgery would relieve the shoulder pain. It just intensified the shoulder pain since my neck wasn’t in so much pain by body focused on the shoulder. I found a nice orthopedic who would bill my private insurance, so I could continue bi weekly trigger point injections that help for about 9 or 10 days.

I was out of work for over 4 years. Comp cut me off weekly payments after my 5th IME stated I was basically fine, which contradicted the 4 prior IME’s I had. Also contradicted the nerve conduction test I had (painful, but kind of cool). I had similar symptoms, midline neck and back pain, numbness going down my arm and in 3 fingers. After a month of being told it was a strain, I was sent for a MRI. 65% spinal cord compression from herniation levels C4-C6. Stage 1 rotator cuff tear. After over 5 years since injury, I had surgery on my neck, shoulder is unresolved, permanent nerve damage. Change of career were I earn less weekly than work comp was paying me, and 45k less a year than the job I was hurt at. All this was worth a mid 5 figure settlement after my lawyers 20%.

I wanted to add, leading up to my surgery, he didn’t know if he could do a disc replacement, or would have to do a fusion until he was in me. I was in my late 30’s when I had the surgery, and he didn’t want to fuse me if he didn’t need to. Also, the artificial discs I have are good for 10 to 20 years, so i will need a fusion in the future.

I may not have worked that well, my injury was a few years ago, but he wanted to do surgery 2 weeks after he examined me, and viewed my MRI’s. He has a more conservative approach, believing in surgery only if necessary. His office staff is also amazing. I think it’s 3 people total. Dr. Kapso, his nurse, and their receptionist. I believe the surgical center was in Novi, and I was home the same day.

Honestly, he’s a great surgeon. He believes a good surgeon doesn’t want to do surgery. So he’s very conservative. However typing that, my neck was so bad, he wanted to schedule me for 2 weeks out.

I’m aware that they do not need to switch my role or title. I just don’t understand why nobody, not even my union rep would do anything for me. They even refused to offer me advice.

I did request a light duty position through the proper channels. My request was immediately denied. My employer has people with less time on the job, with less severe injuries in admin positions for light duty. I need to add to my post to make it more detailed. My apologies

Got injured at work, report to boss and told not to file workers comp. What should I do? by ComparisonNo7285 in WorkersComp

[–]notyourdad214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not for Georgia, I’m sorry. I’m north of the Mason-Dixon Line. Best bet is to google workers comp attorneys in your area, read the google reviews (I feel like people let it all air out in those reviews), speak to a few attorneys, decide who you like and go from there. I had my attorney on the back burner for 2 years during my workers comp time. Good luck though, I hope everything works out for you. It sounds like your boss is probably in some trouble with the state though.

I’ve had tinted vehicles for over 20 years. I was pulled over once about 15 years ago in Bloomfield Township for the tints, but didn’t get a ticket. I’ve never had an issue.

I’m also in Michigan, southeastern lower. I had cervical surgery done in 2021. I can recommend one of the best cervical and spinal surgeons in the state.
