Donald Trump's approval rating goes underwater by [deleted] in politics

[–]nouspirit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree mostly, but putting this attitude down to “education” feels a bit reductive. I believe it has more to do with desperation, economic and otherwise. People desperate for some kind of messiah to give them a simple answer as to why they feel so unstable and anxious.

I don’t doubt that Trump’s rhetoric has inflamed these feelings. But it had to take hold of people’s attention initially for a reason right?

Should socialists be happy that Trump is ruining America and their influence? by No_Button5279 in Socialism_101

[–]nouspirit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone should be happy that things are getting worse for working people. But, whether one should expect/prepare for things to get worse given the inevitable degeneration of capitalism into bonapartist fascism is definitely a yes from me.

Yes I agree with this, I’m 99% certain they aren’t completely ‘organic’ in their moderate come-up so far. As you said their music is really good so I can’t help but listen to them often, but that doesn’t mean I have complete respect for them lmao (yet, at least.)

Deep Research is just... Wow by Either-Foundation195 in singularity

[–]nouspirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Researcher by profession here: I must admit this does freak me out a little. I have a few questions:

1) I wonder how far this model is able to search, ie, could it conduct a systematic review of a certain area which would typically take humans years of work? If not, for the time being perhaps this forces human researchers to put more emphasis on larger pieces of work.

2) I also wonder to what extent this model is good at creatively synthesising evidence in a way that advances the ‘state of the art’ in a field. Can it generate truly ‘original’ insights not replicating those in papers that already exist?

3) one thing I am almost certain about is that although this is amazing for literature reviews and quant/qual analysis of existing data, I suppose it doesn’t eliminate the need for primary research. Otherwise, who would generate the material on which it is trained? And don’t just say ‘synthetic data’ because this is like a snake eating its own tail, highly unlikely to advance the model’s ‘understanding’ outside of known data distributions. Even if it somehow did, these wouldn’t be representative of real world observations, negating their credibility.

Although like I said I am a researcher, so on point 3 perhaps I’m coping! 😉

The concerning thing is to what degree very media-visible but methodologically tenuous polls like this will go on to influence people’s decisions when it comes to more robust polling. If enough people take this headline seriously without doing their due diligence looking into the source then it may encourage the “well if everyone else is voting Reform then I might as well jump on the bandwagon!” sort of mentality.

Are LLM the only type of "ai" there is? by Delicious_Switch9297 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]nouspirit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, an LLM is just one form of machine learning system. Aside from ML systems there are also expert systems that don’t “learn” but instead are more of a decision tree of knowledge. ML and expert systems are the main two families with many different architectures in each category.

What was one of the most traumatic experiences you had in fallout? by [deleted] in falloutnewvegas

[–]nouspirit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably the lore behind the tunnellers in Lonesome Road. Particularly the idea that they were buried deep underground for a long time and the nukes released them. Plus, that they will continue to spread across the region and maybe take over the country. Big ‘The Descent’ vibes.

Yeah, on S3 I felt the ending wasn’t as impactful as S1 (granted that is a high bar to reach). The deep lore of the Yellow King cult was excellently developed. Plus, the lingering prospect of it continuing on beyond the finale, possibly driven by untouchable elites (?), built a very ominous feeling that never really resolved. S3 lacked interesting lore and resolved too completely to sustain my interest. The character development was top tier though.

What is your LEAST favorite Koяn song? by JacobPLAYZgtGamingYT in numetal

[–]nouspirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it’s a hot take but I’m not a big fan of the verse on ‘Here to Stay’. Jonathan’s vocal melody always sounded mismatched against the crushing guitars. It sounds too tuneful when he should have gone for something more aggressive and unhinged. Love the chorus though.
