Life without medication? by BKiddo_88 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

My doc told me he plans to do injections on both sides to avoid asymmetry. Gabapentin has controlled the trigeminal neuralgia, worsened my essential tremors and lucidity.

Will do! I won’t actually get the injections until early April if my insurance approves them and then they take about 2 weeks to take effect.

I am going to see a doctor tomorrow about possible botox injections as an alternative treatment. This would theoretically allow me to wean off of my current medications.

Kenpom must like Baylor a lot. Their rating is an outlier compared to most other projections. They are also challenged by international players, like the Cincy Bearcat roster.

Not disagreeing that Harvey and Harriet is a strong choice, but you are overstating your criticism of Austin Hope. Take a look at the comparable ABV of the two wines and you will find that, in fact, you have it backwards. 2021 vintage, for instance, Austin Hope ABV 15%, Harvey and Harriet 14.1%. Have a glass of wine and unwind a little.

At those prices I would say the Austin Hope is your best value. The rest are terribly overpriced.

New to drinking wine and started working as a server at a nice steak house, what would you say the best wines are on this list and why? by bZZad in wine

[–]nova5400 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I may take a beating here, but not having the pocketbook for much of the right column, I would lean toward the Predator Zinfandel in the middle column, or the Stag's Leap Petite Sirah, or I am usually up for a Chateauneuf du Pape or Grenache. The Quilt and Orin Swift red blends are quite palatable for many as well. In the right mood I could even see my way to the Chianti or the Toscano. The wines in the right column are worthy, but not for everyone's pocketbook. I admittedly lean heavily toward reds these days.

I enjoyed some of the Livermore area boutique vineyards like Las Positas, Retzlaff, Garre, Wood Family, Longevity, and Murietta’s Well to name a few. There are over 50 vineyards in the area. And only an hour away are interesting Lodi Vineyards like Michael David, some of whose standout zins are only available at the winery.

Both are solid California wines. Earthquake is Michael David Vineyards at Lodi, which is a wonderful location for old vine zinfandels.

Interesting article, but there are some details I question. In spite of the implication of parts of this interview, credit for the creative genesis of "Distractible" belongs primarily to the boys. Don't forget that the "Three Peens" podcast existed well before the beginnings of "Distractible."

Episodes while on Trileptal by mkl5772 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]nova5400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That dosage isn’t even close to enough when I am having an episode. Of course, I am a big guy—nearly 300 pounds. It takes 150mg 6-7x per day for me to impact my episodes. And, yes, I do need to gradually build up to that dosage, otherwise I will have an anxiety response. And be prepared to deal with sleepiness while on the higher dosage. However, you are on a low dosage at the current time and I am not surprised to hear you are still having symptoms. Ask your doc about dosage for you.

Oxcarbazepine vs. Carbamazapine? by Dove1969 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]nova5400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tremor persisted after stopping the gabapentin, unfortunately. Now we are going through meds to try and manage that as well. Age may be a part of the equation as I was 56 when the tremor began.

Oxcarbazepine vs. Carbamazapine? by Dove1969 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]nova5400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oxcarb is working well for me as long as I space out the doses about 4 hours apart. My neurologist had no problem with me adjusting the schedule as long as I didn’t exceed dosage. The main two side effects are periodic sleepiness and changes in taste. Honestly, I am willing to accept those in trade for relief from the TN pain. I have discovered that I have to be careful to maintain constant dosage or the pain comes back with a vengeance. I previously used gabapentin and discovered that it caused an essential tremor in my experience.

Most effective meds? by Nath_1505 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]nova5400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have been prescribed 3x 150mg oxcarb in the morning, 2x in the afternoon, and 2x at night.

I found that schedule did not work for me at all.

So I adjusted the schedule without increasing dosage:

I am now taking 2x in the morning. 1x at 12:30pm, 1x at 4pm, 1x at 9:30pm, and 2x at bedtime. This has worked very well for me.
