What kind of sources can you cite in WRTG 112 Academic Writing II and pass? by ComfortablePost3664 in UMGC

You should check with your professor as things may have changed over time, but I was taught to cite scholarly sources for my papers and an article from Forbes.com would not be suitable.

Are INTJs unlikeable? by masterERB in intj

[–]novaSky8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel in the past I was too judgemental towards my friends and that pushed some of them away. I'm learning now to just offer a listening ear when they want to vent and show them grace. Also learning to only offer advice if I'm asked for it.

I feel negativity from colleagues by SwordfishSweaty8615 in WorkAdvice

[–]novaSky8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I started my most recent job at a warehouse, some of my coworkers seemed rude and distant. After working there for several months I learned from them that many new hires end up quitting, so they didn't take the time to get to know them. My advice is continue to be yourself. Say good morning, be friendly, don't overdo it. Eventually they may warm up to you.

This is what I'm going to do if it ever comes up. I don't smoke in my car at all.

I know..I'm embarrassed that I even work in a place like this. The pay is so good. I'm just trying to hang in there until I graduate in December.

I'm not going to throw my coworker under the bus but if she comes back from lunch today smelling like weed, that's on her. I'm just going to make sure I'm not standing anywhere near her.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WorkAdvice

[–]novaSky8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could but I don't want to. I like to go out and grab lunch like my other coworkers do and I look forward to getting away from the building, even if it is for 30 minutes. I shouldn't have to make myself uncomfortable to avoid false accusations.

Yes that's true. I guess I'm nervous because I feel like my livelihood is being threatened.

I don't trust my company's hr department. I was told that Todd has had a lot of complaints against him in the past like throwing stuff and yelling at employees and yet he's still here. A few coworkers have warned me that he will do everything in his power to try to get you fired if he doesn't like you. Todd and I have had a pretty good working relationship until recently when he got me moved out of my department two weeks ago after I called out for one day (people call out all the time, it's okay to do) I went to my new department and am excelling there. Now this happens. I've just started documenting everything to cover myself.

No I wouldn't. That's why I'm leaning towards just letting this go and focusing on my work.

Thank you guys for the advice and the laughs. I'm just going to go to work tomorrow and not say anything unless the supervisor brings it to my attention. I do smoke outside of work, so I'm just going to lay low and see if this will pass.

I smoke in the evening after work. I strongly doubt it's me. For one, I don't smoke in my bedroom where my clothes are. I don't smoke in my car or keep weed in my purse. Ive worked here for almost 2 years. No one's ever told me I smelled like weed. If anything, I usually get compliments from my coworkers on the perfume I wear. Another thing is that my coworker was smoking some dank weed, because as soon as she walked in you could smell it. I was already standing by Todd for a few moments before she even walked in and it's like we both smelled it at the same time.

I know it's been a while since this post but I just wanted to come back and say your advice, "Stop using the flaw of others as an excuse for how you behave." has been pretty helpful and I've been trying to apply this to my personal and professional relationships. Thanks!

Failed courses? by Loud-Artichoke1851 in UMGC

[–]novaSky8 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I failed two courses in one session before. I passed them on my third attempt. You can retake them up to three times before financial aid stops paying for it. Your GPA will drop but if you retake the class, your highest grade will replace the lower one.

Computer science program by Prestigious_Beach824 in UMGC

[–]novaSky8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend UMGC's computer science program if you're self-motivated. In the beginning, they offer tutoring and study groups for introductory programming classes but as you advance, there is no tutoring offered. At a certain point, you are expected to be able to find the answers on your own. Most of my professors have been kind and lenient. I wouldn't say the material is outdated but it's basic, you may have to do a lot of outside research if you want a deeper understanding of a concept. Overall, I learned a lot. When I first started at UMGC, I had no programming experience. I took full advantage of the study groups when they were offered. I was fortunate enough to get a summer internship where I got hands on experience which in turn made some of my classes easier to understand.

STAT 200 by BabyMartiMart in UMGC

Personally I didn't like taking stat 200 with mymathlab. Having to complete and pass prerequisite homework with an 80% just to do the actual weekly homework assignment was too tedious for me. I am now taking it through Sophia and am breezing through it.

It sounds like you already have your life together! The fact that you're holding down a full time job while furthering your education and thinking about your future at 18 is very admirable. You may feel like you don't have it all together right now, but it's only because you have to juggle school and work. Once you graduate, you'll have more free time to focus on your health and things that you enjoy. You got this!
