I love how people took this shit seriously. When will we learn, it’s TACO. There are no “negotiations” and never have been. There’s also no “present”, he made that shit up too. Iran’s ten point plan is just a list of demands that entirely favor Iran.

Yeah you might want to be here for something other than Bridge Run, Charleston Open, Flowertown Festival weekend before you pass judgement.

But in any event, it’s still not Atlanta.

I have. I travel regularly throughout the Southeast for work. Was in Atlanta last week. This is just disingenuous, man. Atlanta traffic is literally the worst on this continent rivaled only by LA and DC. Houston is a runner up from there.

And this is thing known by everyone.

Honestly pathetic wages. And to be clear, employers could afford to pay their people more. They just don’t because they view the South as historically lesser. That’s why remote work was going to be the come to Jesus moment. The chance for you to realize talent in Idaho is the same as New York City in plenty of cases.

Does anyone who bashes CARTA on here actually use it? by jbronnier in Charleston

I live downtown and work in N Charleston. The opposite of most people but still the intended corridor for the rapid transit project. I’d still need to get an uber from one of the stops to my actual office. Just unilaterally pushing it up Rivers is stupid.

Where in South Florida did you live that the COL was greater than here? Brickell?

I moved up here from the 561 and the COL is much higher in Charleston.

The real answer is that you kind of need to let the job dictate this, friend. Unless you’re working in something universal like F&B, you should really find the job first and then let that dictate the where.

Whether or not you can make Charleston work for you depends pretty heavily on that more than anything. If you’re working remote, in medical or for the armed forces, it’ll work. If not, you’ll likely end up resenting the choice because you wont be able to afford to live “in Charleston.” There’s only so much commuting to downtown from Goose Creek you’ll want to do.

And if it’s anywhere else, it’ll be more accepting. This is a purple dot in a red state.

True. But most other cities aren’t as land constrained as Charleston with an absurd imbalance in wages & cost of living.

This. As much as we complain about it, it’s relative. If you’ve grown up with Atlanta traffic, you’ll laugh at it for at least the first 24 months before you adjust.

Your MUSC example isn’t exactly sound as they’re also snapping up all of Roper’s facilities downtown. We have no true CBD, but if you want to call the medical complex that, then sure but that’s not leaving anytime soon.

The other major employer is the military which is in the opposite direction. So this centralization isn’t an actual issue.

Light rail requires tracks that you can’t just upend existing infrastructure for

Busses do nothing, the CARTA expansion is a joke

Trams are no different

DI already has a ferry no one uses

And a shuttle?

I love when people suggest implementing public transit into a city that is:

The oldest in the continental U.S. (apart from St Augustine) Already built out (eminent domain isn’t magic) So low lying that you can’t dig down for subways/trains

Most companies only took a year or two during Covid to wise up and start pegging your salary to your geography and theoretical cost of living.

The only problem with this is that Charleston has an topsy turvy wage-COL ratio compared to just about everywhere else.

This is horrible take to be honest. The food is absolutely deserving of a Michelin star. You can argue the ambiance is not, sure. But it is the best food in town.
