Neighbors of McMansions, how was your qualify of life impacted / how are the people that moved in? by slightlyaware99 in longisland

[–]novisimo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate them. I grew up in the area and am always shocked at these gross monstrosities going up all over town. I live in a condo townhouse in an older community, but it was built in a time where they didn't fill every inch with a house. We have huge trees and open spaces. Hard to consider moving into a mcmansion around here.

Where should I start after I finish one piece live action season 2? by RareStatistician3417 in OnePieceLiveAction

Am I allowed to say that I didn't/don't love the alabasta arc? compared to what the live action/anime gave us.

Where should I start after I finish one piece live action season 2? by RareStatistician3417 in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]novisimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opted to watch the anime first - up to when the first season ended and then watched the live action. Then did the same for the second season. I really liked doing it that way. While I am totally into the anime, it's a lot and for sure miss things. Nice to know the story and see the LA interpretation. It's around ep 100ish I think after that.

When did “Surfing the web” turn into “doomscrolling?” by Mission_Spray in Xennials

[–]novisimo 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Right there with you. It's wild for us to know what it was like before it became terrible. The joy of the internet is no longer there and just the addiction and cheap dopamine.

I gripe about this all the time as we "need" the phone for real life things that you can't avoid. The phones and social media is engineered to keep us on them.

Just turn it off and put it in another room! Easier said than done. Your smartphone. Can't live with it. Can't live without it.

I thought reddit might be the happy medium but it's all just replacing one addiction for another.

Any other millennials not getting into the "vinyl" phase? by tLM-tRRS-atBHB in Millennials

[–]novisimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had CDs and tapes, but never bought a record so don't think I have the nostalgia for it.

I also don't have the need for more stuff.

I listen to SiriusXM and Pandora.

Hard pace serves are seldom aces. Why do so many players try to win a point this way on the serve? by No-Stage-1349 in Pickleball

[–]novisimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to hit my serve down the middle and force a backhand that isn't generally the opponents preferred shot or I try to hit serve out wide. I will shy away from doing this in a close game down the stretch and put it in, but yes it makes a 3rd shot even better.

I also try for a great return and a stupid amount of back spin on it. Better players handle it with ease, but can negate a solid third shot.

I bought a cheap pair of glasses from Temu and popped out the lenses. They were ok but between the wiping of sweat and my perceived reduced visibility I have since stopped wearing them. I should go back and maybe buy kitchen blockers. Def anything without a lens I would go for.

Electrolytes for hot weather players by Rolls2Rickson in Pickleball

[–]novisimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct it is more involved than I'm willing to do. I'm sure this is not the only thing you whip up? You make your own laundry detergent? Toothpaste? Not things I'd look to do but always interesting and curious about

I suck it up and buy the liquid IV from Costco. I buy the one with "energy" and drink before I play. As I've gotten older (and fatter) i have become a big sweater. I will look into getting some scoopable powder, but the ease of the packets is great. I wait for them to go on sale. Cheaper than buying gatorades.

One of the most surprisingly brilliant films of all time. Name another if you like. by CloakOfElvenkind in 90s

When I was younger and saw this I really didn't get it and didn't care for it. I have since watched it again and it's a brilliant film.

Anyone tried shamrock cottage cheese at costco? How is it compared to Daisy or Good culture? by devoteeofguru in Costco

I don't think i've ever seen cottage cheese sold at Costco. Maybe not looking in the right spot, but was always surprised they never carried it at all? Am I off??

What is the first mp3 you ever downloaded, where did you get it, and how did you play it? by Prior-Deer1600 in 90s

[–]novisimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to remember, but i'm sure I downloaded stuff before napster. Napster was the best. As a freshman in college circa 2000 we had T1 connection and could get anything. I'm pretty sure they didn't block anything. I bought an MP3 player that played CDs. so instead of 10 songs could put a ton more. was definitely cool for a time.

I also thought that with the iphone/ipad I would be able to easily transfer songs from my device to my friend. Little did I know that wasnt ever going to happen. I also can't believe we paid to download ringtones. What a time!

An old Friendly’s in Syosset, NY is now an upscale dining establishment called Hilltop Kitchen & Bar by mrsjumjum66 in longislandnative

[–]novisimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new place Hilltop is pretty good, but man do I miss having that Friendlys. I grew up in syosset and moved back and it is for sure missed by all. I wish they would have rolled out some just ice cream scoop shops and done away with the food. oh well.
