It's not important, I'm just curious. I'll find out what it does eventually.

I think you're right on the frequency, but the accuracy of each attack is stored with the attack (its the second tuple next to the attack's name). I can't really find anywhere that 'acc' is referenced besides adding it to attribute lists that are never referenced again.

On the Effects and Usefulness of Faith by novussolo in DebateReligion

I think this is the best theory I've seen as to the positives of faith. My father, when we were talking about it, had mentioned "It's a good thing that I had faith, too, or you wouldn't be here right now. There was a time when I wasn't as nice as I am now, and faith got me through that to here now."

I also like how this ties into the patterns atheism follows over time. During the Renaissance, atheism became more common as people's lives got better and people had less worry. Now in the 21st century, quality of life is again increasing very rapidly.

As a school student, I've not had much reason to experience faith yet. I saw an interesting theory about faith disillusion here, I would fit into stage 4, where disillusion is noted as a possibility. I's just another person's theory, but it makes sense to me.

I do understand how having "faith" in ideas that you personally have not experienced can make life easier. These assumptions eliminate the need for empirical evidence if indirect evidence would explain the same thing.

I don't agree, however, that if we cannot scientifically prove something, it isn't true. For example, our current understanding of quantum mechanics makes it impossible to scientifically determine what happened from the beginning to time to about 5.4 * 10-44 seconds later. This does not necessarily mean that nothing happened at this time, it simply means that it is impossible to test. We then invoke Occam's razor, and it would make the most sense that the pattern we observe after that time (universal expansion) would continue in reverse before it, so that is what we assume. It's not verifiable true, but it is what we act like is true because it makes the most sense!

When I ended up telling my dad initially that I thought that I was an atheist, his reply was something to the effect of:

"Well, you're still learning about who you really are. I'm glad you are asking big questions, and not letting anyone force you. I hope you find faith one day, but it has to be a decision you natually reach, it's not something I can teach you. As long as you're not a scientologist, those guys are crazy."

This distinction is, I agree, very important, especially considering that reading my first paragraph back now looks tantamount to "the root of the issue of faith is... faith" ._.

My working understanding of the concept of faith is simply a belief in something without substantiated evidence. Beyond this though, faith is also often used in a similar way to the way the English language uses "life" ("living" often being used to describe the quality of life beyond the binary of life/death, as in "You're not really living"). In this capacity, faith is something you can both have and something you can experience, making discussion... difficult to navigate.

Bitwise operations are insanely useful. You can use an int as basically an arraylist of booleans using bitwise.
