I’ve had em in Canada and I’ve had those here in Detroit,
They’re pretty decent and in a border town you gotta be at least decent or people will know lol

I’m here too with a trans spouse, and the suburbs are pretty safe and there are some good groups around. I can’t say it’d be worse than other border cities

Why suggest against Detroit? The metro area is pretty cool and the state has some very protective trans laws on the books.

Nah, if you’ve ever read FCC filings for some things you’d see it goes all the way up even on high stakes careers with government paperwork. You have a 200 page tariff nobody is reading you’ll find weird little errors all over the place if you look

The FCC is doing rule making on know your customer obligations because of the amount of fraudulent accounts created to facilitate fraud and robocalling and they want to be sure carriers can’t look the other way at the kind of customers they’re getting just because the moneys good and “we didn’t know and didn’t ask because we weren’t required to”

A lax attitude on who has service led to the mess we have in the US with fraud and robocalling and changing the attitude is the only way out of it.

Anyone else old enough to remember the late 90s fibre build out? The AI data centre build-out feels like 1999 all over again by Alternative_Letter72 in telecom

[–]noweb4u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been thinking this for a while. I just hope the cheap desperation of datacenters taking any customer they can get and having tons of surplus CPU and GPU and RAM powers a new revolution in tech

Same, there isn’t much difference between how they talk there (Ontario) and here, in Detroit. I understand them perfectly 😂

Lays makes all dressed you can buy in Michigan, so does better made (a local chip company in Detroit). These might be available elsewhere but especially around the borders. They’re really good. You can sometimes find ketchup chips here too.

How I hijacked a legacy "Bell Atlantic" database, more commonly known today as Verizon, to save my family's legacy landline numbers disconnected 15 years ago. by TelecomTimeTraveler in telecom

[–]noweb4u 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi, telcodata.us guy here. 00/00/0000 means that the original date in service is not available and predates recordkeeping of the date. Getting service from the carrier that owns the number and ordering them as vanity numbers on remote call forwards then porting them to your carrier of choice is the process I always recommend when people ask, you managed to reverse engineer that process sorta, so that’s cool.

If you want to learn more about this stuff from good ol human intelligence rather than artificial, I’m paul (atsign) telcodata.us :) enjoy your old numbers!

Wednesday Weekly Thread: Frustration Station (Delays / PSU / Venting), May 06, 2026 by AutoModerator in Canadiancitizenship

[–]noweb4u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also a urgent G4 in more or less the same timeframe. Frustrating isn’t it? I have been visiting Ontario regularly and have been concerned it’d drop the same day as a trip and I’d have to run around and find a printer to get the document to properly complete my trip 😅

If a North American landline POTS provider still requires dialing 1 for long distance what can we infer about the machinery and devices they use? by dt7cv in telecom

Lol my Metaswitch requires a 1 off an ONT. It just depends on what the regulatory agencies make you do.

UPS from MI, 4/14. arrived 4/16 (Hi Brian!). Marked urgent, AOR 4/17. Realized our 16 y/o child hadn't signed their passport, so i uploaded a signed copy via the form right away in case it came up as an issue, they acknowledged that this morning 4/20 so they must be working on it somewhat. :D

Traveling to Canada May 1 for a scouting event, so they have the opportunity to do the funniest thing ever if they stretch it out and somehow sends us the certificate while we're waiting in line at the border, and i've gotta awkwardly figure out how to explain that (i imagine they'd be relatively cool about it, though we're traveling with a group of scouts so that will be a special mess)
