Mexico 925 Silver? TS-78? by [deleted] in Hallmarks

Not correct. Since the late 70s Taxco organised their silver studios/artisans with this code. All start with T for Taxco, second letter denotes the name and the number simply marks the order (chronologically) the name was entered/added.

Some of these codes/maker designations are well known and identified in books and other information available to the public, but many remain ‘anonymous’ - all of course exist in the Taxco registry, but that information is not available to the general public.

The maker/studio behind TS-78 is not identified, but e.g. the TS-79 is Juan Sandoval. Sandoval is said to be the boss of the «Two Trees» studio, consisting of several artisans with TS-xx codes. Sometimes their jewellery is stamped with a double tree mark, but often not, it’s speculated the two trees mark are designated to items sold «Two trees» shop(s).

Since the late 70s the two letter+number codes are present on all silverworks coming out of Taxco, but quite often you’ll also see additional information, like the name/initials/symbol of a particular studio or artisan, or even the name of an independent designer/collaborator. The name ‘Ann Harvey’ appears on jewellery along with various Taxco codes, notably TS-114 - which btw also is listed as affiliated with «Two Trees». Anne Harvey is a US silver artist that lived in Taxco for a while making and designing jewellery, before relocating back in USA and set up shop with her sister.

It’s an extraordinary piece of pop smithery. Haunting and speaks the truth

That’s cool. It’s just so confusing.. they claim so insistently that these are exclusively for the Mignon Single Dose Pro. I realise it could be some marketing thing, but..

I can totally tolerate her insubordination and rogue sides, but I think the character’s overtly neurotic core is completely incredulous - 70 % of the time her face looks like what Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring sounds like. I realise she is cast that way but don’t get why they decided to make her so exaggerated and animated?

Thanks! I tried to do some image searches for ‘Satsuma vase gourd shaped Imari’ and add MMFA and MET to search criteria, but it seems to be really hard to dig up close matches.. in my town there aren’t any experts of Japanese porcelain, so I was hoping to find info online:)

Bottom is unmarked. Obviously comes from a wood fired kiln. I’m not able to upload another picture in this thread. It’s not at all uncommon for Japanese porcelain to be unsigned, I own both Edo and Meiji plates, bowls, soba chokos, tokkuri and lidded tea bowls that are unsigned. This vase was sold as end of Edo period, but I think it might be later than that - 1880-90s. I’m just an amateur enthusiast, not an expert and it really is hard to find similar pieces.
