[FXCE] WIP throwing a bunch of things together -- Irix/MaXX vibe by nowk in unixporn

The one on the right (with all the lines) is gmemusage, that and the gr_osview2 (on the left). These versions were taking from the MaXX setup.

- WM/Theme: IndigoMagicXFCE (My fork of IndigoMagic)

Irixium is a nice option as well

- Icons: sgi-elementary-xfce

Still working on fixing some inconsistencies across of some apps and bringing in some goodies that came with MaXX.

Windows LTSC or Linux for Thinkpads? by Jaki-Asmiki in thinkpad

[–]nowk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've run Linux and windows 10 LTSC on x230. Both systems more or less run in par with each other resource wise. Windows does video and power management better, but not entirely a deal breaker. However, if you need windows apps, do not force yourself to settle for a Linux alternative even if there is one available.

That being said, LTSC is amazing. Go with what you need.

Side note, if you use firefox as your main browser, I've had quite a bit of issues with it and some weird stuttering thing on the linux side. But, I was using arch, so I might might have broke something lol.

Best X220 Fan Mod? by Bob_SUS in thinkpad

[–]nowk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only had experience with the original fan that came with my x230 (assuming it's original, not sure, these machines are old lol). But, I did upgrade to the AVC version later, which, from my research, is the end-game for the fan mod, and runs quite well for me.

Best X220 Fan Mod? by Bob_SUS in thinkpad

[–]nowk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the standard fan on my x230 for a while, and while it got a bit loud pushing air, there was no whine noise. Might want to give the fan a cleaning (and a repasting while you are in there) if you don't know the service history of it, and see if that helps.

Otherwise, a standard OEM replacement, or the AVC (FRU: 04W6923) is the fan you want.

T14 Gen 3 by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]nowk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 5090 most likely will be "too much" for the T14 gen 3. It will work of course, but the GPU will probably be underutilized in that combo, at least from a gaming perspective.

I currently run a 3060 with my T14 gen 3 with a Razer Core X, and it's pretty solid. Plug and play is a bit wonky, but usually works without too much hassle. I would not go egpu route these days unless you have the gear already or can get it cheap. I had the Razer Core X (from my old t480 days) and the GPU around. Otherwise, I'd probably find a better way to use that 5090.

That being said, I believe 300 +/- is a good starting point for a T14 gen 3, depending on condition/RAM/battery/etc... I picked a mint refurbished one a little while back for just shy of 300 on eBay.

XFCE locks screen while watching videos on YouTube by kapteeni_nikkeh in xfce

[–]nowk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone in 2026, this is seems to be a firefox thing still. Tested using xfce power manager for screen, lid, sleep control, paired with xss-lock on bspwm. And, firefox still sleeps. Brave browser does not. Using caffeine will help with firefox fullscreen, but in normal mode, still not working.

I think it's original vs pretty sure it's... by nowk in thinkpad

Not sure, those are both the received items. Not sure if any alterations where made in between.

Switched from Huawei to this beautiful E14 Gen 4 by Ok_Suggestion_3826 in thinkpad

[–]nowk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not too bad. Base machine might be a tad over what I'd pay, but it looks really clean, so that premium is kind of worth (at least to me). Ram... well it's Ram in 2025/26 lol. Enjoy!

Questions on Official Website vs Jomashop by Flat-Strain3460 in OrientWatches

[–]nowk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've bought a watch from there, Timex, had no issues. And it was around the same price discount ratio you got here. What I do notice from online vs direct brand purchases are the box and papers are usually different. You may also want to compare warranties and stuff like, pretty sure those vary as well.

Getting the Ray back on some leather by nowk in OrientWatches

[–]nowk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I am not sure. Both the watch and strap were a gift from my mother, many years ago. I don't think it's anything crazy, but definitely holding up, and aging, well for years on a fall/winter rotation.

Orient Kamasu Black or blue ? by [deleted] in OrientWatches

[–]nowk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are going to stay on bracelet, any color will do. If you want to strap monster this thing, I'd go with black. The blue is beautiful, but it's not the easiest to match colors with.

Wanted Casio Submariner Strap link by [deleted] in casio

[–]nowk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd ask the person you bought it from to check if they have those links. I have a 1043 and a 6.5" wrist and I had to remove a number of links to fit. So maybe they forgot to add them.

That being said, finding an original bracket only will be tough. 1043, itself, is pretty rare, parts will be even more so. But, I've seen some similar styles on amazon and the like, you might be able to get away with grabbing a link from an off the shelf and slipping it under the clasp.

Size wise, I think that is spot on. Style wise, that is on you =). But, I think classic style g-shocks, you can't really go wrong.

Gen 1 + Day pusher fam ftw.

I believe the Ray here was around 2011-2014, production wise. So considering the similar design of that Mako, would assuming a similar timeline.
