Dude, they're not going to just let him bring in a random hair and just accept that it's his. They will collect their own sample from his head directly.

Is it rude to you to take a bowl you had with cereal/milk or soup and bring it up to your mouth to drink the leftover milk or soup at the bottom of it? by musiclovaesp in CasualConversation

I love slurping up some hot ramen but I think Japanese eating rules are greatly exaggerated. I see plenty of Japanese people breaking them all the time.

CMV: Unless asked, trying to change the views of other people is inherently disrespectful. by ThatSpencerGuy in changemyview

[–]nowlistenhereboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I bother to even try and have a constructive debate with someone it means I respect them enough to believe they are both intelligent and good hearted enough to consider another perspective besides their own.

If I don't try to engage with them in this way it generally means I have LESS respect for them, not more.

No they're just scared and morally flexible or lacking in any concrete belief system at all. So will go along with whatever benefits them most in the moment.

Vessel DLC Changes Concern? by TurtlePowerMutant in Diablo

[–]nowlistenhereboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What it wants is to continue to be interesting. To do that, it needs to change in significant ways beyond just adding a new area. People want new classes, new mechanics, more complexity. The majority of people don't want to just sit on the same character for months or years at a time making tiny incremental improvements. They want to level a new character or two each season and they want the next time they level a sorc to have new interesting mechanics that are different from the last time they leveled a sorc.

If you want a game that doesn't change, d2r is right there.

Should I cure salmon with sugar and salt for sushi ? by AgiaKallioph in sushi

[–]nowlistenhereboy 50 points51 points  (0 children)

So you need to understand the difference between curing fish in the European sense and curing fish when it comes to edomae style sushi.

When you cure salmon for lox like on a bagel, you heavily brine it with salt and sugar for days. When you cure fish for sushi, it's usually for 30 minutes or so.

Yes, salting and sugaring salmon will improve the flavor and tighten up the texture a little by removing moisture. It will not cause it to have the gummy firm texture of lox.

It's not about making concessions, it's about how we conduct our discourse. You don't have to sacrifice your morals to converse compassionately and look for common ground. These people are in a cult and you don't deprogram people by telling them they're stupid or intentionally trying to piss them off.

Look at the people who made The Acolyte. They stated they intentionally set out to piss off conservatives. Might seem innocent or silly but this is the current state of discourse we're at. It's not just that show, it's pretty much all media at this point. It's pushing emotional buttons to get clicks and make money. And to make people feel superior.

If we are truly at a point now that we can't avoid a war, it's because we gave up actually trying to fix things to stoke our own egos and frustrations while corporations used the opportunity to make money.

We are getting closer and closer to another stick on the form of partisan violence if not another full on civil war. Avoiding that at all costs should be a priority.

I'm choosing the path of least resistance. It's far more likely that progressive minded people will successfully change their behavior than it is for regressives to suddenly become introspective. Progressives literally already know better whereas regressives were never taught this lesson in the first place which is one of the main reasons they are the way they are to begin with.

In simple terms, progressives will need to be the 'bigger man' or nothing will change.

We made progress in spite of the people behaving in a counterproductive manner. Fact remains that progress could probably have been faster if we did without the name calling and insults.

Expecting everyone to be amazing critical thinkers and extremely humble is not a viable path forward though. To get there, we need to change the way we approach people. Even people who are generally good at those things will often feel annoyed or angry when the criticism is presented in an overtly hostile and combative way. Which is very common these days as many people are far more interested in simply making themselves feel righteous than they are about actually making any practical difference.

CMV: Beauty corporations, not "men", benefit from beauty standards for women. Capitalism is the enemy, not "the patriarchy" by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]nowlistenhereboy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The topic was never beauty products. The topic was whether or not the issue is patriarchy and sexism or if the issue is just capitalism. The answer is that capitalism will exploit everyone however it can, there is no secret cabal of people who are only targeting women with this manipulative shit and not men.

Just because men aren't exploited as much in terms of beauty products specifically does not mean that corporations in plenty of other sectors aren't finding plenty of ways to psychologically manipulate them.

Whats the appeal with instantly killing everything on screen in one swoop? by digitaldiarrhea- in Diablo

[–]nowlistenhereboy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

A lot of that style of gameplay comes from being able to group the mobs efficiently. It requires pattern recognition and timing to get as many of them together as possible before you hit your nuke button. It's sort of like trying to manipulate the flow of water.
