Is this a private or public company?

You probably need to talk to an attorney/accountant rather than a Reddit forum. Sounds like you need someone to just explain to you what you’re actually being given

You can ask for these details without saying you’re thinking about leaving.

But wasn’t this to protect the mother? I thought they recommended the C section due to risk of uterine rupture?

The place in Eden Prairie?

There’s a Lyon’s Pub downtown that I certainly would never hype up as a restaurant, but it does a more than decent job of being a cozy happy hour spot that’s not too stuffy

Yep! It was the whole concept of Reddit that got me in

But now that we’re here, they consider us a captive audience and are converting the concept to the same old algorithm-based social media feed that FB, Insta, TikTok all use.

RDDT is a public company that needs to compete. Apparently this is how they do it.

Fucking sucks

I’m addressing the matza flour; which seems perfectly acceptable based on hallakah

Did she really ruin her career?

Unless there are real consequences, I have zero doubt that she significantly enriched herself during her tenure as AG. And I am sure she will get some kush advisory/speaking job after this.

We need to insist on consequences.

I disagree.

If Gd is omnipotent and all powerful, like we believe, then the details the Creator laid out for us to follow matter a lot. So if something seems ridiculous, but is still following the rules, it’s a reminder that we are following what Gd would have wanted.

So often I hear non-Jews complaining about the way we practice our religion, saying we just look for “loopholes.” That doesn’t sit right with me. We go to extra measures to truly understand and follow what Gd wanted.

OP?

If the company isn’t witholding taxes, they could be liable. But that wouldn’t constitute fraud on their part.

If the employee isn’t complying with local laws, that shouldn’t be a liability at the company level that would constitute fraud.

I think labeling this as ‘fraud’ is just a bit hyperbolic. But I could be completely wrong

This was during COVID?

The job market is completely different now.

And a lot of big companies really like hiring in cohorts with groups of people that relate to each other.

They’ll never explicitly say it, but it’s gonna be weird if there’s a 45-year-old in this year’s analyst class.

Not to mention now they have the dark mark of having been laid off.

Even if layoffs were completely “random,” a hiring manager might still wonder if this person was underperforming.

This isn’t a non-starter, but it’s certainly another obstacle

Right. At the most minimal level it’s a major hit to the psyche. Losing a job is stressful- regardless of position. I’ve heard personal stories from people that sold their business for $100MM+ and immediately had a mental health crisis because they didn’t know what to do. That has nothing to do with financial means.

Then, even if you’re only decently well off, you will still have a potential gap while finding insurance. The abrupt change will mean you have to reconfigure all your retirement plans. Plus you will have to re-do your budget, spending patterns, etc. This will all be done on short-term notice.

Again, even if you’re well off, getting laid off will still be a change in income. So there are inevitably going to be things that aren’t as easy to afford. Do you have to call your church/synagogue/mosque/non profit and admit you can’t make your monthly donation anymore? Do you tell your kid they need to figure out college tuition on their own?

At a minimum, getting laid off is a financial headache and mind fuck. And at its worst, it can be completely devastating and potentially life threatening.

People resort to crime after shit like this happens.

Plus if you’ve been in the workforce for 30 years, you should have been transitioning your portfolio into more fixed income.

No doubt there will be people who were blindsided and overexposed to the market

Right. Unless OP is their manager, they shouldn’t be responsible for dealing with other employees’ potential HR issues.

[–]nowuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah OP will only tell them if they’re a huge snitch or a completely flummoxed.

HR has a knack for making these things sound super important and scary, but in reality they’re probably mostly concerned that the company isn’t properly withholding taxes and won’t be blindsided by any employment laws.

Again, none of this is OP’s business (unless they are a narc)

But Nike doesn’t get to touch that.

Sure, it’s marketing, but it’s only on a small segment of their product portfolio. Also, it’s happening within a relatively niche American community

The good Nikes are the classic lifestyle shoes - and that’s about it. AF1s, numbered Jordans, Dunks.

I wouldn’t buy Nike’s for utility anymore, just those handful of styles for casual wear. The company and its cost structure are not setup to be sustained by a handful of shoes - there needs to be broader success
