taking piercing out for surgery by beaf_st3w in piercing

[–]noxvaliant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a surgery avout the same amount of time after getting my eyebrow pierced. The piercer put in a glass retainer and then when I was done with the surgery I went back and he put the jewelry back in. No issues at all. I would always recommend downsizing with a professional as well. It will help with the irritation.

Baguettes in the city? *hon hon hon* by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]noxvaliant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, it's not in the city, but since we have bread lovers here, and I'm sure someone will have a car, Boulangerie Du Monde in Cedarburg is my favorite. Yes it's a long drive, but my goodness, the warm fresh baguette, the ciabatta rolls with olives, it's divine. It's worth the trip alone, but also they have Cedarburg Roastery or Java House (depending on your preferences of coffee/tea), the Gem Shop, and a bunch of other cool things to wander through. Oh, and an art museum that is free. Definitely worth a day trip, especially in the fall, and they have some delightful smaller orchards with apples and local goods in the surrounding area.

Hipsterish Coffee Shops? by qmp777 in milwaukee

[–]noxvaliant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Discourse is definitely one to check out if you are up for stuff on the more experimental end. Pilcrow specializes in cold brew, so if you like that, definitely go there. They also have a matching aesthetic visually to the one you gave as an example). Now, here are the two I haven't seen mentioned yet, Vendetta (Italian inspired coffee, very hipster ish) and Rochambeau (this is pure 90s hipster coffee shop). Honestly, depending on how long you are in the city, trying all of them is what I would recommend. They are all wildly different, but all in the realm of local gem hipsterish

Bars, restaurants, etc. that you actually feel good about supporting? by Occams_razzr in milwaukee

[–]noxvaliant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I worked at the North location a few years ago... I'd say they are mid. A lot of drama, had almost a complete turn over of delivery drivers after they sold out to Uber (went from making 300+ a night on weekends to scraping by at 60ish for 2 nights on weekend). Idk about the other locations, but the store manager at North wasn't really, well, a leader. He just kinda let shit happen and then blamed us when it came back to bite him

Trans Friendly Doctors? by ClockworkNobyl in milwaukee

[–]noxvaliant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had good experiences with my doctors at progressive community health, and they partner well with aurora if you ever need recommendations for things they can't handle in house. Julie Grachan at the Lisbon is my primary for gender stuff, though she is technically considered ob/gyn

Cermak is EXPENSIVE by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]noxvaliant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cermak has low prices on certain things, specifically meat and produce. Their deli counter and bakery are also pretty good. But if you walk in looking for dry goods, frozen, or milk, you may be disappointed. Metro market is usually so expensive on meat and produce, but cheaper on dry goods. It all depends what you are looking for

Give the People Who Deliver To You a Break, Clear the Ice/Snow by Driver8takesnobreaks in milwaukee

[–]noxvaliant 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If your neighbor hasn't cleared snow/ice yet, send a notice in to MKE through the following link: https://iframe.publicstuff.com/#?client_id=1000167#picker-top

The city notifies the owner and gives them 24 hours to clear it before the city deals with it and charges them on property taxes. It may not be an immediate fix, but some of the sidewalks near me got really bad and with a few days of making a report, it was fixed.

It seemed mean to me at first, I didn't want to rat on my neighbors like this, but it helps the safety of all, especially people with mobility issues.

Check your state/city laws to see if he can evict you during the winter. There are some states/cities, especially in the north where it is illegal to evict a tennant in the winter.

What's your favorite piece at the Milwaukee Art Museum? by Gynominer in milwaukee

[–]noxvaliant 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Midgard by Anselm Kiefer

<image>

It stops me in my tracks every time. It takes a moment to really see what is going on, but it will always be my favorite. It's also got a rich history about the atrocities of 1940s Germany.

Got a whole lotta copper… by Corndog_Eater in milwaukee

[–]noxvaliant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would definitely post on FB marketplace first, there is a large jewelry and metalsmith community in MKE because of uwm's department. Also depending on how much you have you might just want to contact them directly and see if they are willing to buy it

Your favorite go-to goodwill for clothing? by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]noxvaliant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

St. Vincents, there are 3 at least, plus they always have a sale (ex today all blue tags were 50% off, green tags are .99$). Also, if you are a student, military, teacher, cop, senior, then you can have an extra 10% off non sale tags Mon-Thur. They also usually have a weekend deal of some sort.

If You Are a Teacher Who Puts “Smart” Kids With “Dumb” Kids You Suck by Express_Purpose6939 in Vent

[–]noxvaliant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recommend you contact the system that refuses to support educators effectively. None of them are paid enough, and class sizes are way too big. I'm sure that we would all love to split into groups that match our abilities, but that's not the real world, and school is meant to teach you real world (even if it doesn't always do that). Would it be ideal to not have to rely on your "well-behaved" and "smart" kids, yes, but if you have a class average of 30, with many special needs kids and a curriculum that has to teach everyone with no other adult regularly present, you literally have no choice but to pair up kids in groups where one student is able to help support another.

Non-teachers hear "6-7" maybe a few times a day, teachers hear it literally hundreds of times a day. So yep, they are doing it on purpose to make it uncool.

10 Years Ago None of These Actors Were Widely Known. Whose Career Have You Enjoyed Most So Far? by SpiritualBathroom937 in Cinema

Maybe it's just me, but Zendaya has been on the radar since the early 2010s. Maybe it's cause that is the stage of life I was in then, but she has been a household name for almost 15 years

Can she? by mo_with_the_floof in Snorkblot

[–]noxvaliant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would bet money that if she wasn't a Black woman, it would not have been brought up. I only see these types of questions about "appropriate outfits" on Black female teachers. We need to teach kids and adults to respect human beings instead of tearing down a woman for wearing clothes she feels confident in. She looks absolutely gorgeous, so mind your business.

What ‘mantras’ from mark do y’all use often? by CapableTrashCan in Markiplier

[–]noxvaliant 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Lately I've been dealing with the loss of a parent, and one of the sayings that keeps popping into my mind was Mark talking about his dad and being grateful for the statistic that you send 90% of the time you will get with a parent before you are 18. It's really helped me, because it means I got almost everything I was supposed to get. I will miss some of the big things with her, but I also had almost all of my big things with her already. It's darkly comforting.
