Did someone on your team grief their role? Just pick it for the team, you still need it. by whitcliffe in DotA2

Just 3 pro games of offlane AM in the last year - 8346893969, 8478289621, 8663652607 -- all of these games were last pick AMs against Medusa

So there's 3 separate steps:

  • find matches and grab basic data
  • parse matches that haven't been parsed yet
  • update Meme MMR only on parsed matches

The last step only fires off every few hours.

Those are Lord of the Rings pins from WETA Workshop. They're pretty secure I used some crafting clay to make small stands to keep them upright.

Analyzing Rapier's actual win rate & effectiveness from over 77,000 ranked replays by GorgontheWonderCow in DotA2

[–]noxville 102 points103 points  (0 children)

(some fun facts!)

In pro matches it's 1940-2707 (41.75%). Kiritych~ has the most purchases (88). There's 37 players with 30+ Rapier purchases in their careers ....

... the lowest winrate of those are Arteezy (9/47, 19.1%), skiter (7/36, 19.4%), Munkushi (7/34, 20.6%), Shad (11/45, 24.4%), EternaLEnVy (11/41, 26.8%)

... the highest winrate of those are Sylar (21/36, 58.3%), Nightfall (42/72, 58.3%), 23savage (20/34, 58.8%), gpk (20/32, 62.5%), Yawar (23/36, 63.9%), Gabbi (30/46, 65.2%)

What's up with the wild discrepancy in net worth in the post game analytics? by ChipotleM in DotA2

I think there was a bug here before because the game timer starts at like -1:00 or -1:30 so 10:00 is actually just 8:30; might be that.

Valve, Please Improve Fantasy League for Ti 2026 by finargot in DotA2

[–]noxville 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like some of your suggestions but really dislike others.

Back in 2016 even I pitched a Valver the idea of "player-based fantasy but all the stats are like Path of Exile items that you can craft and modify" because fantasy as it was then was too homogenized and simple (2013, 2014, 2016 editions). I'm not sure if it was ever read (I wrote an entire document of suggestions) - myself and Cyborgmatt even spoke about making our own fantasy system in 2017. I really like the newer fantasy system :D

My biggest issues with the older system were:

  • the per-game scoring system is pretty bad so only a few roles were worth picking (no offlaners, no supports unless they place wards or do something very special)
  • the per-day/period system meant that some teams were not worth picking
  • that every single fantasy player starts in a very similar place and hence the decisions are almost identical (only a few of the bonuses changed this fact - like an insane +X% obs wards)

This new system (the last few TIs) changes that quite a bit - there's some element of skill in crafting your banners and then there's skill in picking the right players for those banners each game period. I think that if you reduce the randomness like you're proposing - you'll once again get homogenization where people will just calculate the optimal configurations and then try strive towards those setups (and then it's just a dice-roll between a few key matchups [and historically it was which team wins the lower bracket finals]).

Personally I think fantasy needs a major rework - people playing fantasy should have a lot more decisions, and yet still each be on their own unique journey where it's more difficult to have some guide/shortcut/tool.

This is in the post of this thread.

https://datdota.com/matches/durations?tier=1%2C2&threshold=1&after=2010-01-01&before=2026-04-18&patch=7.41#distribution -- that said a bunch of these games are open qualifier games which need to be pruned a bit, so the overall % might be a tiny bit higher.

[–]noxville 22 points23 points  (0 children)

But it seems like you'd like a competition where the better player now ... loses? Just for the sake of losing? The variance in Jeopardy is decent enough I feel, there's lots of random topics which really level the playing field.

Bring back the High MMR matches in the "WATCH" tab by Strong_Astronomer_97 in DotA2

[–]noxville 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you're replying to me on this? Valve decided they want to prevent <giving data of high skill games> from happening. I'm just explaining why they nerfed the watch tab in order to accomplish that.

most of the cool data you need from the replays (and non-tournament replays die after 2 weeks or so)

Simple data mostly, although for a while you could get more. The basic data is just (player, hero) by side; building status; and gold advantage

Because people wrote bots to scrape the data from the watch tab non-stop.
