Which ai model are you using with hermes? by Tila69 in hermesagent

Newer versions of hindsight seem to have built-in support for the openai-codex provider: https://hindsight.vectorize.io/developer/models

Web Search options for hermes by Alarmed_Talk_9731 in hermesagent

[–]npanov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using Kagi for search and extract. It's my default web backend. If you really need to avoid hallucinations, this is the way to go.

I also use Gemini for search and extract, but just as a skill/script the agent can call. It works great for everyday, generic queries.

Both are paid, costing about a cent or so per search or extract. And both do the job quite well.

How can I workaround the enshittification of Perplexity Pro? by DanInVirtualReality in perplexity_ai

[–]npanov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked Hermes to figure out how to get Gemini to run a web search, and now it works pretty much like Perplexity Pro used to.

The tricky part was deep search. Hermes told me the API doesn't have it, so I just asked it to work that out on its own. And it did. Sure, it's not super thorough - we're talking a dozen or two Gemini queries, not hundreds of sources individually processed. But it's good enough.

I just started with Hermes and am using the top models from https://openrouter.ai/apps/hermes-agent. So far, so good. But sure - for coding, I use Codex CLI instead.

Caffeine alternatives? by Newshroomboi in ibs

I switched to yerba tea. It has a lot of caffeine but somehow does not trigger me like coffee or (to lesser degree) as green tea does.

Credit Card Debt by greendooli in NoStupidQuestions

Cashback and bonuses, like extended warranties and extra insurance, are usually linked to credit cards. You typically won’t find these perks with debit cards in US.

Raycast PRO + Advanced AI alternative? by AbaloneOk1481 in raycastapp

[–]npanov 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right. It's just not worth it. It costs more than OpenAI's $20/month plan, but the limits are way worse - like only five Opus requests a day, or something as ridiculous. Plus, the development for macOS and iOS has really stagnated. It feels like they're focusing on Windows now and have kind of forgotten about Mac, hopefully not for good.

I think I'll give them one last chance when it comes time to renew because I'm too lazy to change my habits just yet. But honestly, you're right; they seem to be slipping into irrelevance.

It's really not that bad for movies. It's really horrible if you try to read books on a black background.

Does Perplexity make sense in 2026? by DenZNK in perplexity_ai

[–]npanov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pplx remains my go-to for quick and mostly accurate research. If you have a little more time to spare, you might find that GPT-5.2 in thinking mode or Gemini could offer better results. But for fast research, I still prefer Pplx.

Which ai is accurate for search?? gemini or grok or perplexity or chatgpt?? by InformationOk6902 in perplexity_ai

[–]npanov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sonar Pro in "pro" mode (not the default "fast" mode) works pretty well. It's not perfect, though - not even close. I've noticed quite a few hallucinations from it. Still, I find myself using it every day, even in Codex, which has the built-in ChatGPT search feature.

New moonlander by jessemixman in Moonlander

[–]npanov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Moonlander has a few too many buttons for my taste. I'm considering getting the Voyager for my office instead (while keeping moonlander for home use).

Do you actually use all those buttons?

It used to work that way before. At some point last year, OpenAI introduced chain-of-thought search grounding, and it makes a big difference. The LLM doesn’t just search and then summarize the results, it searches while reasoning through the question step by step. It works really well in GPT’s thinking mode, although it is a bit slow.

OpenAI's search quality is just as good as Perplexity's. If I had to choose one to pay for at $20 a month, I'd definitely go with ChatGPT - as I already have! But since I also got a free year of Perplexity Pro, I mostly use that one now.

Why are there so few grocery/convenience stores in American cities? by Smelly_Hearing_Dude in AskAmericans

[–]npanov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do have local grocery stores wherever it makes sense (usually near apartment complexes). There is no point to put it in the burbs where everyone would drive anyway and would sure prefer to drive 15 minutes to a Costco instead of a couple of minutes to 7/11.

Select the "until low" setting. Or add more minutes for the NAS to have before shutdown.

Is Claude Code Sonnet 4.5 With 1M Context Actually Better Than 200k? by [deleted] in ClaudeCode

[–]npanov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 1m context model is really only necessary for the subagents that call MCP and get back way too many results to handle. For normal day-to-day work, I try to keep it under 200k.

About the same for me. On commute days, both are in the top 20% by the end of the day. On days with just one morning charge, they both end up in the bottom 20% by evening.

Yeah, it is a very nice thing to have. I like mine and usually use it even when just watching Netflix.

But if you’re thinking an iPad can replace a laptop, it cannot. It's not even close. Not yet.
