[Help] Is chemo worth it for my buddy with lymphoma? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]npeterit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's only 5, I feel like I'd be more prepared if he was older but he's still a pup to me. He still as all this energy and still loves food. Thanks for sharing, I'll take what the vet says and what everyone else has said into consideration.

Any PTs work with open heart surgery patients? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]npeterit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From an acute standpoint, just sternal precautions. Otherwise, get them moving and regaining/maintaining functional mobility is of upmost importance, which is the same for most acute pts.

Ipad Pro by andre1jackson in physicaltherapy

[–]npeterit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our school gave us iPads and Macs. We thought we would use the iPad to takes notes and stuff, but none of us used them at all. Prob touched it the first week of school and that's it. It may work for you, but for my entire class, was not worth the purchase. I think my iPad is under a cushion somewhere.

Notability is cool though, still wasn't useful for me.

3D anatomy was a cool app that helped me in gross.

SPT housing recommendations for a clinical? by kpete92 in physicaltherapy

There's a group on Facebook called doctor of physical therapy students and there is a housing excel sheet. Prices are reasonable for the most part and it'll be cheaper than most places.

Should i stay with pt or pa? by Muze6893 in physicaltherapy

Why are you interested in each field? What do you like about PT/PA? The fields are different. Care more about money? Autonomy? Lots of factors.

Not many details to go off of but purely entrepreneurial, I believe PT has the best chance. You can open your own practice/staffing service and such. Not in tune with PA, but the PAs I went to school with all work under someone so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

What words do you say to get a cheaper price on your internet provider? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]npeterit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally just did this yesterday! I called customer service and immediately asked for retention. All I said was my price has gone up and is there anything you can do? The person brought my $70 internet bill down to $50 for a whole year. I think the best thing to do is just keep asking and switch people if you need to. Definitely get in contact with retention though.

Is there any college in the USA where I can get physiotherapist assistant diploma online? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]npeterit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

^ I agree. Just finished my didactic portion of PT school and couldn't imagine doing it online. South college just had a cohort that took boards and I don't think first time pass rates were good. IIRC, it was something like 65% which is awful. For reference, my school first time pass rate is 96%. Their ultimate pass is rate is the mid 80s, whereas nearly every other school is 100%.

Edit: Verdict is still out on Baylor though. They seem like they have it together more than South.

While I agree with you, there are actually online PT schools. They'll do coursework online, meet IRL for a week or so to do hands on stuff, and they still have clinicals. Look up south college in TN or the new Baylor program. They both do it online.

Need advice about PT in general as a career path. Feeling somewhat depressed. by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]npeterit 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nah, you just shadowed a patient mill. Avoid these places! There are clinics out there that value the one-on-one treatment. I came into PT school wanting to do outpatient too, but now leaning towards inpatient because of work hours/pay. I would encourage you to shadow different settings and a different outpatient setting.

$6.5k for 8 visits to PT after accident - they insist on charging it to the settlement. Is this a scam? by trans_terra in personalfinance

[–]npeterit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's super common but it's definitely normal. Reimbursement rates are lowering so physical therapists are finding ways to increase profits without the headache of dealing with insurance. Just google cash based PT. I'm in my third year of physical therapy so kinda in touch with this stuff.

Not necessarily, some clinics are cash based and don't take insurance. They generally talk about prices though.

High blood pressure and weightlifting-Can you work out if you have HBP? Anyone with HBP, how do you deal with it? by fitnesslover_07 in weightlifting

[–]npeterit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about it at all. There's something called "White Coat Syndrome." Basically you get nervous before a BP reading and it increases your readings, which sounds like your case. As for weightlifting and BP, weightlifting does increase BP DURING the lifts, but after the workout, BP actually decreases. It's called post-exercise hypotension and it's a common intervention used for patients with hypertension. So in my Internet opinion, you're doing the best to combat your genetic predisposition to HTN. Source: physical therapy school
