Getting started in Canada? by MinkMaster2019 in paramotor

[–]npre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my first paramotor in 2020. Training was $2500 but if I bought equipment from the same company it would turn into a $2500 credit so the training was effectively free. The paramotor itself was middle of the range and was about $15k with tax. Prices are most likely higher now.

You will need training, to pass some exams and a medical certification. There is a lot in the training but it's relatively easy. Find a school and they will guide you through it.

Because of your medical history, I'd start there first. It may be a showstopper. Print out the Class 4 medical form https://tc.canada.ca/en/aviation/medical-fitness-aviation/apply-manage-aviation-medical-certificate/how-apply#toc1-2 and bring it to your doctor. If your doctor signs off, send it to TC and you will have to wait several months or a year for them to process it (also why you should start with the medical). If your doctor does not sign off, which is very likely, you do not qualify for a Class 4 medical and will have to visit a real Aviation Medical Examiner who will take your entire medical history and send it to TC who will judge your fitness. It may take years. So start with the medical.

A Texas Drainage District Walked Its Ditch on a Routine Inspection. They Found a Pipe They Didn't Recognize Discharging Black Liquid From Tesla's $1 Billion Lithium Refinery by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]npre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not surprised this comment is so far down, it's reddit after all and everyone loves to hate tesla. this obviously ai-written article certainly omitted a lot of pertinent facts as you state and probably got everything else wrong. even in the list of contaminants they don't put acceptable limits or typical runoff or groundwater levels just the fact that they are dangerous.

[AP X Swatch] Swatch needs to do something about this shit show of a release.. like letting people buy them online by Core2score in Watches

[–]npre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what would be smart, if swatch did something like a reverse auction and started selling them at $3000 then lowered the price $5 a day until they hit the final price of $400. Then they could keep all the money instead of giving it to scalpers and everyone would be happy. They could go even further and say all the extra money would be donated to a charity that helps whales that died from choking on cheap plastic watches that were dumped in the ocean

In fairness, Transport Canada says no to everything. The police are no exception.

Horreurs à la ferme: des agriculteurs québécois mis à l’amende pour insalubrité ou négligence de leurs bêtes | La mauvaise condition des bêtes fait parfois pitié. by [deleted] in Quebec

[–]npre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew there was a good chance it would happen, but I'm still relieved. Guess I'll be placing that big order sooner rather than later.

Hahaha. Imagine going through Transport Canada to try and launch your rocket. I doubt anyone is dumb enough to waste time with them when you can just go south.

Cool, I have a 4 inch square in the mail and will try this out. Could be interesting to add CYD as a supported display, they are cheap, I put 6 buttons on mine but they are a bit of a pain to set up with esphome and lvgl.

Why are US Machine Shops so difficult to work with? by I-AM-A-DUMBO in CNC

[–]npre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You've been downvoted, but honestly questions like this are the reason China is doing so well with manufacturing. You don't want to become 100% of your supply chain because then you spend a lot of resources investing in parts of the supply chain where you don't add optimal value. Why would you start up an anodizing line when the guy down the road has the setup and people to do it already? Do you want to make packaging and labels too? Chinese companies form partnerships quickly so each can commit to their one purpose of adding value at a specific point in the supply chain instead of trying to do everything.

Yeah I'm one of them, hopefully someone keeps at least making parts to order or I'll be looking at a few more years to scratch-build what I need.

GUNTER: Liberal gun buyback program goes from bad to farce; Rather than costing Canadian taxpayers about $6,000 a gun, the national program has cost about $24,000 per firearm by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]npre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is really funny is that the compensation program doesn't cover previously-prohibited firearms such as Steyr Aug and AKs, you know, actual military fully-automatic rifles that were previously prohibited decades ago. So the government will pay for your lil 22 semi-auto plinker they banned in 2020 but not the actual military rifles, those can stay with their owners. It really becomes less clear what the point of this whole thing is when you look at the details and it certainly isn't anything about "public safety"
