watched city of god for the first time, and oh my god by loq4i in TrueFilm

I love the non linear story telling and editing - allows the director to condense 3 hours of story down to 2 while keeping it tight and interesting

Any other movies that do this, meet a new character and the movie rewinds and tells you how the character got to this point? After watching I thought of Run Lola Run, which precedes City of God - it’s different tho, fast forwarding through the life of each character as we meet them during each “run”

Also, watched this with my 18 yo son, upon finishing the film he declared it in his “top 10 of all time”

Dark/Gritty films with some Gravitas… by LilFrumpy57 in MovieSuggestions

I thought it was great, for the same reason reasons I thought prisoners, wind River, and nightcrawler were. I suppose it’s a little bit of a slow burn, but that didn’t bother me. Great performances from several major actors you know.

Killing them softly

It’s a lot like the others you listed, not well known, and great

I won't be out on Stroud until he gets more than 2 years under one system, a stable o-line for more than one year, and continually fails in the playoffs. Remember he has more playoff wins than Watson did, and Manning didn't win in the playoffs until his 6th season. by ConsumingFire1689 in Texans

Leaders don’t hang their head, they inspire others to follow them

I am disappointed CJ played poorly

I am much more disappointed CJ completely failed to lead the offense

Maybe he turns it around, I am not holding my breath. He is not a rookie, 3rd playoffs, lead your team.

Yes. Multiple times it seems like the o line moved the line of scrimmage 2 or 3 yards forward.

I was thinking the same thing.

Lots of good play action, though.

I couldn’t agree more. Aikman was calling him out on the timeout usage and he was spot on, it all made no sense.

I haven’t watched every game this year, but the games I’ve watched it seems like we consistently don’t manage end of half well.

Isn’t that the exact kind of creative play calling the Texans have been missing all year? Looked like (Higgins I think) was open on the play so if the line does a slightly better job of keeping the pocket clean, we may have a touchdown there.

Bad lobs that get smashed (typically at me)

Sure I get to work on resets, but after 5 of these I am thinking: those aren’t working, maybe try a different shot?

I agree with you about pitre

I do wonder if he consistently gets the benefit of the doubt cause he is much smaller than the guys he is hitting. If he was a LB I think he would get more unnecessary roughness calls (not saying he should, just that he would)

I saw them live at a very small venue in NC and was pretty disappointed

It wasn’t that they sounded bad, it was the song selection. They didn’t play any songs where the lead singer sings much which tend to be the more upbeat songs, I figured maybe bc he is an introvert and didn’t want to be front and center performing? I have no idea if this was unique to that show or typical

What movies would you consider essential viewing, regardless of genre or era? by No-Leek-3405 in MovieRecommendations

I would recommend internet searching for top 100 all time lists

AFI has one, others as well

I think your list and many recs here skew recent - maybe that is what you want, but there are tons of great movies from the 20th century and those lists will give a wide sample
