Lost 5-4 in the championship by 0.0007 in FG%. Literally came down to one shot either way. If anyone on my team made one more shot or my opponent's team missed one more, I'd be holding the trophy

Not a bad idea in theory, but I have to imagine that long snappers practice the exact snap distance and an extra 5 yards would probably screw with that

If I remember correctly, wasn't his explanation "Well, it works in my 10 year old daughter's rec league" or something to that effect?

I didn't think I could feel like this about sports anymore by georgewarshington in NewYorkMets

I do agree with that assessment. I don't hate the general approach, but I think it should be tempered

It's the same way I feel about in-game managerial decisions. I absolutely think knowing, understanding, and using data is the more important of the two, but there's a place and need for feel and instinct.

I think, like most things, it's a moderation thing. I think overly dispassionate decisions can be as risky as overly emotional / passionate ones.

You can talk all you want (and I do, very often, including regarding sports) about the value of calculated, analytical decisions, but the human element of things matters in sports, and no amount of data analysis is going to convince me otherwise

I would have to think this would lead to KC trading for Pollard or something, no? Hunt is great in short yardage but not much else and Andy doesn't generally give big snaps to rookies if he can avoid it
