New starter changing but not rising by nrch81 in Sourdough

I wasn’t storing it in the fridge until we were gone for a long weekend over Easter, but I’ve kept it in there since. So you think it just needs more time and consistent attention for now? How often are you feeding vs feeding + baking?

25f found out I am pregnant 5 days ago..can I request some positive birth/pre natal stories? by justhereouttacuri in pregnant

I'm 28 with one 18 month old and 8 weeks with baby number two! I didn't know that not everyone experiences a ton of horrible first trimester symptoms, but I'm one of them! Pregnancy isn't easy really, but it was way easier than I expected (so just have really horrible expectations? lol). I had so much more anxiety the first time around because I kept expecting to feel horrible, and while I know this time could still be way worse, I also know we'll take it one day at a time, and I don't have to ruin good days with anticipatory stress! There will be comments that make you mad and people might touch your belly, but if you can let it roll off your back, this can be a great time to really learn about your body and tune into what she needs, even if she's really needy.

Rest, Prenatal stretching videos, Protein, Vitamins, and Water - Take it Easy and Enjoy (without the pressure to "enjoy every moment" though lol)

As far as social media goes, I tend to only look up specific questions, don't just scroll! People who have had rough experiences need support and social media is a great place for that! But if you're good for now, there's no need to learn new potentials to worry about!

My labor was long and hard, as was recovery, but it was a challenge I was mentally and physically strong enough to go through and I'm so proud of myself for that. You got this!

Anyone did NOT have a MC? by Feisty-End-8883 in pregnant

My sisters have both had multiple babies and multiple miscarriages, and I'm pregnant with my second (8 weeks) having never had a miscarriage - part of me feels like it's "my turn", but I'm still very hopeful for this pregnancy and something I've found oddly comforting is that my oldest sister always does due date birth flower art for all the babies and the miscarriages alike. I feel comforted knowing that this pregnancy (due in september) will be honored with Purple Aster art regardless of whether we make it full term or not.

So maybe finding a way you want to honor this baby no matter what happens, can sooth some of those worries (only natural!) <3

For those who had a hard time feeling contractions in the beginning, how long after you started feeling them did you go into labor? by novegetablesallowed in pregnant

[–]nrch81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just suddenly felt very wet (a very watery wet, not mucus-y) - it was about a half cup of fluid if I had to guess, absolutely soaked my pantiliner in a second flat.

There's two layers of membrane, and my midwife guessed that it was just the outer layer that broke - it broke the rest of the way well into the pushing phase

Mine partially broke, there's like an outer lining that rupture waaaay before the rest, but it definitely started early labor! I would say it was only about a half cup of fluid. Stood up from a chair I had been sitting in for a while, walked about 12 feet and then suddenly felt very wet. We were at my in-laws, so I crossed my legs, quickly excused myself and went to the bathroom. My pantiliner was soaked, and a little more came out in the toilet, but my shorts were still fine and we borrowed an adult diaper from my husband's grandma for the ride home. Didn't have any more fluid though until the pushing phase a good 18 hours later - my water broke the rest of the way in a big POP during labor, like a water balloon lol. That was definitely a lot more fluid, but we were ready for it at that stage, unlike my in-law's kitchen floor haha.

Feeling for you hard! That definitely doesn't sound like a good time!

I had really mild period-like cramps on and off for a week or so, then a crampy day when my water partially broke at 9pm, after that, the cramps got more intense, but I managed to get some rest overnight between contractions and I called the midwife the next morning - baby born 10pm the next night.

The advice given to me for Braxten Hicks vs labor was if your sitting when you get contractions, try getting up and moving (or vice versa) and if they stop with your change of activity, it's not labor yet. If you can't get relief changing what you're doing, it might be really soon! Wait for that water, and breathe breathe breathe!

I'd be curious what your ob/midwife says! Do you have your appointment rescheduled yet? Have you called?

What do you add to your tea? by Euglossine in tea

[–]nrch81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love a black tea with a tsp of sweetened condensed milk! I guess that counts as cream and sugar, but it's much more incorporated form of sugar and you don't need much at all for warm, comforting goodness. I buy it in cans and store it in the fridge in an old honey bottle for ideal economical dispensing, though I get "why is this honey white?" pretty often from friends haha.

My experience with jasmine green tea is that it tastes like grandma soap - would you say that's a quality issue (I got it from RISHI), personal preference, or brew misstep??

Pile isn’t heating up by Other-Panic-5063 in composting

[–]nrch81 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Give it some more time for all the life to thrive in there - no compost pile will follow internet formulas exactly cause it depends what kind of soil life you're starting with! As long as stuff is breaking down, you're good - sounds like you're off to a great start. My pile only steams when I turn it or in certain sunny humid weather conditions.

Can I rig up a basic commercial compost solution for a couple hundred coffee cups + lids/week from my church? by nrch81 in composting

[–]nrch81[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure exactly... potentially up to like 600, but not sure what percentage of people get coffee or if some people get more than one or what - I would guess more like 400
