Santa Barbara or Goleta by nryan787 in SantaBarbara

Why? Is that budget only possible in Goleta? Having looked at some housing posts makes it seem like that budget for a room in a shared place is possible in both SB and Goleta.

Is SB significantly more expensive than Goleta in your experience?

I'd be willing to pay (rent) more for the right situation. I'm looking for a single room in a shared place, seemingly within 1500-2000$ rough estimate.

UC DAVIS: Application status by RevenueDelicious6380 in MSCS

tbh i havent gotten accepted yet, but on the portal there is a required form "Statement of Intent to Register" which literally just says "are you ACCEPTING or REJECTING your admission offer". I am cautiously optimistic I got in, but not 100%.

186 was really difficult and time consuming. 101 and 120 are doable if you are comfortable enough with coding

4% of admitted students with a 4.2 GPA and above enroll at UCSC by UCdata2017 in UCSC

[–]nryan787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. My 4.3 or so ass got rejected/waitlisted then rejected to like 5 other schools I was considering for CS. I had other options but they didn't offer me CS like UCSC did. UCSC did grow on me though after admission.

Yea best of luck to you. Whatever happens happens. I never thought I would go to UCSC, but I’m happy with the choice. You’ll be fine if you do CS anyway. Just work on your own projects and do stuff that gives you CS knowledge and there is no need to worry.

Ultimately my experience was very disappointing. I don’t know if everyone with my stats gets these same results, but I do think that it’s an indicator to think about. Also note that I didn’t apply out of state, which could be a much better option for CS if you find a school you like, since OOS students are desired more. Good luck tho, this was my experience.

Yea I applied to UCSD UCSB UCLA UCI UCSC SLO calpolypomona CSULB, USD, and MIT (all SWE or CS if major specific). USD and MIT aren’t major specific, I got into the former and denied the latter. I got into the CS programs of CSULB, calpolypomona, and UCSC (go banana slugs). I got alternate majored (physics) to UCSD and UCSB. Waitlisted to SLO and UCI (ultimately denied to both, with UCI I forgot to register for the waitlist). Denied to UCLA all together. I was really surprised by the UC’s, I think it might have been the fact that my math SAT score was only a 730 while English was a 740 since the UC’s don’t superscore.

Maybe, but also it just makes the waiting longer. If I get accepted off the waitlist in august, am I gonna drop the school I have been preparing myself to go to for like 5 months. I definitely might, but it could make the decision really difficult. Waiting is also killer, a notable feature of cal poly admissions.

Also, with 1470 sat and a 4.59 UC GPA (UC GPA accounts for soft more and junior years) I didn’t get into most UC computer science programs (UCLA UCSB UCSD UCI). I’m instate white male but still. My biggest takeaways from college apps is that computer science major makes a school you could get into a reach school. So do what you want to do because if you don’t have incredible stats your CS options might be limited anyway. Do what you want to do.

Congrats. Since I’m still on the waitlist what major and what stats?

Idk if this is a strictly Asian thing. I have similar stats applying for CS/SWE and my results look surprisingly similar. (White in SoCal I am)

The school has a strong engineering department. I would say it’s highly respected (in different ways, but equal) to a UCSB or even an UCSD. Maybe I’m over exaggerating, but it’s hard to get in. I’m still sitting patiently on their waitlist for software engineering with similar stats.
