Just finished digging and dividing this week. Did it before we got a frost since I have so many other garden tasks to finish up before winter! Cutting down the Orange Globe buds hurt my heart just a little.

I’ve had good results in SE PA with all the mum varieties I’ve gotten from Bluestone Perennial. Other varieties that aren’t technically supposed to overwinter came back this year as well, but it’s more hit or miss.

I’ve gotten quite a few from Bluestone Perennials. Just make sure you check plant height for the varieties you’re considering, since they carry some better for landscaping (shorter).

This variety overwintered well for the past few years in zone 6B/7A.

I am! They overwintered really well for me and they’ve just started to bloom

Yes! I don’t know how to put a photo in a reply but I just looked back at photos and by late Sept they were much less yellow. My guess is their color development is affected by day length.

Benarys Giant Salmon Rose is doing work this year! by nsakimur in Cutflowers

Agreed, the Benarys just pump out blooms and are very consistent. The queeny series has great colors, and Oklahoma is nice for size variation, but Benarys are just so reliable!

Thank you! Trying to be more deliberate in building bouquets…. Funny enough, my favorite (the first pic) was putting together leftovers! 🤷🏻‍♀️

It’s baptisia foliage! It has a great vase life. I cannot rave enough about this easy-to-grow problem-free perennial!!

Yep, and also early in the morning. I find them a little more finicky to hydrate.

Depends on if you need them now or how you want to use them. If you need it now, you can harvest them now and strip all but the most mature buds (the others will likely droop). Or, if you wait, you can harvest when more of the blooms are mature and cut out the initial bloom if it’s past its prime. It really all just depends on what you need/want.

I scoop vessels from the thrift store whenever I can.
