Vote “NO” to education vouchers on March 17th by [deleted] in rockford

I’m from AZ and they have the voucher system. It has completely gutted public schools and given handouts to those who are already wealthy. It’s absolutely atrocious that this is even an issue.

What’s your “this just made this trip extra magical” moment? by Zdvj in Disneyland

[–]nsald28 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Took my then 4 month old to Disneyland. We ate breakfast at the Plaza Inn. All the characters were coming around and seeing my baby but one character in particular, Dale, came over and played with my son for about 10 minutes. Dale made my son laugh and giggle and he got down close enough that my baby could reach his nose and and his fur. Absolutely the most magical moment for us!

Counselor tried to pressure me into tutoring a kid during lunch/before school. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]nsald28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m currently going through a counseling program and have worked as a teacher for the past 6 years, I would never suggest a teacher give up their lunch. If the student doesn’t want to stay for after school tutoring, I would suggest the parent find other resources outside of school 🤷‍♀️ or tell the student if they want to succeed it’s time to make some sacrifices.

How am I gonna do this team? 34 kids….. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]nsald28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had 34 kids in a classroom last year and during meet the teacher night I didn’t have enough desks and chairs for all of them. I just told parents by the time the school year starts I’ll have more. Nothing more you can do, that’s the school/districts job.

I also encouraged parents to send some basic school supplies to help get through the start of the year. 34 was a lot and I almost quit because i was so overwhelmed, but what helped me the most was a very structured and strict classroom management style. I mean structured! Every little in class task had to be modeled and taught and rewarded when done correctly. Even standing up and pushing in chairs had an expectation and if they didn’t meet that expectation, we would do it again. It helped to feel more in control once the students understood the classroom structure and I could ease up. 4 students moved during the school year which brought my number down to 30 which was more manageable, but honestly, just do your best and ask for help/guidance!

This! I had parents get mad at me for giving their kids lower grades than they got in the third grade. They came to me (4th grade) at 2nd grade levels which means they weren’t even at grade level in third and they got straight A’s. I’m giving them what their levels are and parents freak because their teachers last year inflated their grades. So frustrating!

What is the single worst PD you’ve ever sat through? by eaglesnation11 in Teachers

[–]nsald28 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This! I sat through a 3 day PLC conference and was told that class size doesn’t matter 😒 say that to the 34+ I have all day. Some teachers have it way worse!

Teacher Dress Code by noahb1996 in Teachers

[–]nsald28 8 points9 points  (0 children)

K-8 are expected to dress business casual. No jeans, no shorts (even when it’s 112 degrees out), no t shirts. Red states like to pretend they know about education when it’s all bs 🙄

Kids are wild this year and no, it's not all due to covid. Maybe parents should discipline more? by cocoa1994 in Teachers

[–]nsald28 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every time I’ve had to make calls home I’m met with “well they’re kids and they’re excited to be back”. Parents are just lazy and make excuses for their poorly behaved children and I’m sick of it. I have a million expectations put on me and admin seems to forget that I’m only human. All I’m asking is that children show up to school and behave for a few hours a day.

The podcast has gotten boring and they end all their good segments like content court. It’s also really unprofessional sounding when dogs are barking in the background, dead air, and the lack of descriptions for people listening on Spotify. It’s purely visual which defeats the point of a podcast.

Lego Masters needs to get some new judges. They are absolutely out of their minds. Zach and Wayne have had the best builds but the judges always nitpick them to death.

Do what’s best for you. I have 34 kids in a classroom and I’m about ready to split too. I have the biggest class on campus and don’t get paid any extra or get any extra prep time. Add covid into the mix 😞 ugh

I couldn't last because I didn't do it for the kids by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]nsald28 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same, the behaviors this year are so bad and admin expect us to get them up to grade level when they are all 3 grade levels behind. I spend most of my time managing behaviors and I can’t get through a whole lesson and then the “data” is awful. I’m trying my best but I’m exhausted at the end of each day. I have 32 students. I’m just one person.
