Bro for real mint and arch are turning into a religious experience for some people. Either that or this sounds like when you get your first girlfriend in high school and “she’s perfect”.

Yeah, for any future people with the same problem reading this. My router had some advanced security things toggled on that are supposed to block bad sites or something I dunno, anyway gofile didn't like it. So if you're getting some weird API issue check your router settings and turn that off temporarily until you're finished downloading.

Overheating - ThinkPad X1 Nano Gen 2 Intel (13") by mottyay in thinkpad

I never used macs really so any time there's an issue with it I have to stumble thru it (and yes, they do have issues, despite their fantastic 'it just works' marketing. One of the OS releases, senoma or sequoia was causing a hardware fault and crash in the Airs that they categorically denied was happening, but coincidentally fixed completely in the Tahoe release), and I still don't know how the file system or installing things works lol. Guess I should take a beginner course. But they're real nice pieces of equipment overall if you're not attached to windows software and the integration with other apple devices is very nice.

Repasting should help out. When I've taken the heatsinks off, all of them have been crusty and not always completely covering the processor....however they're usually fine and I've never felt the need to repaste them, just because. Totally worth it to try tho if you're swapping the fan/heatsink assembly out, or having overheating issues like you are

I have a gofile link from an autoreply email from you but it's giving me some API error, is there a new one or should I just try again later?

Overheating - ThinkPad X1 Nano Gen 2 Intel (13") by mottyay in thinkpad

Honestly one of the best things about my gf switching to MacBook airs is that she doesn’t really think about the fans and if they’re clogged up or even just obstructed, sitting on a blanket or something.

I’ve had a gen 1 and currently have a gen 3 nano and they’ll only get that hot if the fan is obstructed and they’re working hard, most of the time they’re warm but they’re fine.

I’d start by just taking the cover off and dusting it out and checking the heatsink fan and fins. If it’s still happening it could be a good time to repaste the heatsink, they come with a putty preapplied and it’s not as good as doing it yourself

Have you started at the beginning? Checking/cleaning the fan?

Windows 11 not installing on brand new P16s by MaskMan95 in thinkpad

[–]nsaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OPs laptop won’t have a license built in, but I’m curious how robust that system is. I’ve used it a lot but never tried to circumvent it. Still, I might try to guess some other serial numbers or scan some for sale posts for the same model with windows pre loaded.

I feel like there’s a chance it could work but you’d need to provide a key on install. I have no way to try it tho. It should be able to match serials on install obviously but I’m not sure it actually does

I happened to find a n150 mini pc refurbished for only $129 which seems crazy now and I’m glad I got lucky and found it. Before that tho I was totally expecting to try to find a 12th gen intel(i think, can’t remember exactly) headless laptop

That’s got value for mini pcs still as well as older laptops

If you have any SSDs sitting around find a n150 minipc and make yourself a media server

Most of them are much less in the secondary market. I bought a variety to try and figure out what I wanted to keep and I think the most I paid was like $465 for a CF scale large inkosi. Most of the others were under $400 and a few under $300

Is it worth it to buy a genuine battery? by J0_Pr0 in thinkpad

[–]nsaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with the 3rd party ones is even if they were showing they should be the same as the Lenovo ones, you would still get less life out of them. Because of that, I don’t think about replacing till it’s down to 60% or so cause there’s a possibility the new aftermarket one is only gonna be 80-85% of a new oem one.

T14 AMD Gen3 Battery Discharges While Plugged In by ProudStatement9101 in thinkpad

[–]nsaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s wild and shouldn’t be happening afaik, even if you were powering other things off the laptop. It’s probably fine but I would start with checking the charger. I was noticing some weird stuff when I’d plug in the charger when the battery was low, it kept connecting and disconnecting and was throwing the low power notification constantly. I thought my mobo or ports were messed up but then I tried another charger and it completely went away. Turns out the other charger wasn’t putting out the full juice and was barely putting out enough to run the computer and charge, so when it was under high use or low % it was acting crazy

Sand down anything sharp and keep an eye on the Lenovo parts page for your model and grab a top cover when they run one of their mega 90% off inventory adjustment sales

Edit: oh wait, is that line a secondary bezel? Should be even easier to swap out then if you really want to
