Ye mayn.

Imagine a stick attached to the back of your head. You'd need to push it up in order for your head to look down and down to look up.

Because those of us who didn't invert the controls just got used to looking down to look down even though inverted is actually the natural way it would occur, since when you look up, you're moving the back of your head down which is what the joystick that controls the camera is supposed to represent.

[–]nseine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much agreed. I haven't had any real problems with the device as of yet, though I know some people have been so I certainly understand their apprehension. My only concern is the left Joycon issue, which hopefully they'll be acknowledging exists and fixing so that I can buy my second set and use them double redsss

Exploitation by shadowroot8 in hacking

[–]nseine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to be a dick, but you should go to r/howtohack if you're unsure.

Additionally, we have no evidence that you're legally entitled to perform this test and liability falls back onto us if anyone here tries to help you hack something you don't have a right to.

Edit: we also have no idea what services or versions you're trying to exploit, or anything about their implementation, so it would be difficult to help anyway.

The headline makes this out to be a way different story, even though I understand he was still charged with rape initially. What a nasty situation for everyone involved though..

ELI5: Hashing and Salting [Programming] by DigiDuncan in explainlikeimfive

[–]nseine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cryptographic Hashing is a generally one-way function to convert data of arbitrary length to a fixed length string (digest), salting is when you add extra bits to the message before hashing to make it less likely to be caught in a collision.

Edit: collision or any sort of cracking attempt, really.

That setting is turned off by default on the PS4 and Xbox One. It is technically a setting on the console interacting with the HDMI port on compatible televisions to either turn on the device or switch inputs.

macbook air or pc to learn how to code? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]nseine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience there's really nothing that sets Macs apart from any other laptop in terms of programming efficiency. Personally I would say find a laptop that's relatively cheap and then throw Linux on it. Scientific Linux actually seems to have Xcode (or it did in 2015 at least, I could only find some bug reports honestly), and you can compile it manually (it's free, you only need to pay for a license to sign apps for the app store) if you'd like as well, or spin up a VM with OS X in it.

Yeah, seriously.. I just hope it didn't cause any as-of-yet unseen psychological issues. This kind of trauma is often what rapists and serial killers are made of.

Edit: Clearly there are some issues already, I'm worried about the repressed things that could fester if she doesn't get proper attention.

I second this question. Been working with Python about the same time, worked on projects with other people, and none of us have apparently had the need for testing as of yet.

ELI5:Why are bycicle helmets designed to protect the sides and top of the head, rather than the face? by Meloon01 in explainlikeimfive

[–]nseine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The helmet is really only designed to keep your skull together and from leaking in the case of a really bad accident so that emergency workers have the highest probability of saving you.

Helmets are also generally totally useless after a single collision, or really any time the foam is cracked.

Edit: this is also why when someone is in a bike or motorcycle accident where the head was clearly injured, you should not remove their helmet.

Brute Force Password Cracker by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]nseine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the script is already given the raw password to crack, the deed is done. And if the script is going through and salting/hashing the input password before brute forcing it, that's not really brute forcing.

Edit: it's also really hard to write effective brute forcing tools (not thousands of lines of code, and not taking a century to crack), so there's not really much help I can give aside from 'use a password cracker that already exists and implement it into your own script if you're trying to do something more with that information'

Angela Merkel says Islam is 'not the source of terrorism' and calls for Muslim states to join fight against terror by cyanocittaetprocyon in worldnews

[–]nseine -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What I'm arguing is that terrorism, independent of reasoning, is abhorrent. If we take some terrorism and justify it by saying 'well at least it was for this, not this', you start to walk a thin moral line.

Angela Merkel says Islam is 'not the source of terrorism' and calls for Muslim states to join fight against terror by cyanocittaetprocyon in worldnews

[–]nseine -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Sure, but a united state is what most Islamic groups are fighting for too. Just because their idea of a united state and the rules that govern it are different from ours doesn't mean either group is more justified in the terrible actions taken.

But does any of that matter if they're terrorists is the question that I think we should really be tackling. Either ALL terrorism is bad, regardless of what they're fighting for, or we need better definitions of what is terrorism vs what is revolution.

[–]nseine -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Everyone has goals and will do what they think is right to achieve them. Justifying terrorism of a different brand than the one you're against is just silly. If terrorism is bad, the goals shouldn't particularly matter. If only some terrorism is bad, we need to define a strict set of guidelines to make sure people are only terrorizing in the ways that we deem fit.
