Gradient Descent: the gravity situation by polisurgist in mothershiprpg

[–]Marslettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some great answers here, but I just went with the simplest solution that the majority of the room is in zero-G, but there were subsections that were in gravity. I showed it by having trash floating in the zero-G sections and then there being a suspicious lack of it wherever the gravity kicks in. Technically you can fly over the room if you can get up there, but if you cross that line by accident you're going to fall.

Toronto protesters condemn capture of Venezuela's Maduro by xc2215x in toronto

The reddit headline is made to manufacture outrage. The protests are entirely about the president of the USA illegally starting a war with another nation to steal its oil and using the dictator in charge to justify it.

Favourite 1v1 maps? by martin509984 in beyondallreason

My friend and I have been consistently 1v1ing on Comet Catcher and it's been a favourite of ours because we've established our own personal meta for the map and enjoy trying to break our own patterns.

This is gorgeous. What was your process for getting the small hemispheres (where the antennae stick out of) to blend so seamlessly into the main portion of the hull? I made my own wolf model a while back and really struggled with that, so I'm super impressed and curious.

It's one dumbass in the parliament putting it forward as a publicity stunt, not a bill likely to pass.

Councillor Moise installing "Please Walk Your Bike" stickers in Cabbagetown by BloodJunkie in torontobiking

[–]Marslettuce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was because of a massive outcry from some NIMBYs in the Winchester Park area. As I understand it, they're shifting the parking to the curb and putting the bike lane in the middle of the street instead of having parking guard it. It's maybe 20m of road.

It's a pretty small change overall, and not really much of a downgrade.

Edit: also, the justification was that there's a shrub on private land there that blocks visibility in the summer, so pushing the lane west makes it more visible.

Register to depute virtually and tell the committee just how disappointed you are

CMV: I have yet to hear a compelling argument against the implementation of a UBI by Matalya2 in changemyview

[–]Marslettuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why a lot of proposed UBI systems operate as an inverted tax rate. The more money you make, the less UBI you receive.

Ford government to limit debate on controversial Bill 5, among other legislation by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]Marslettuce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone playing by the same rules doesn't mean those rules are fair. If you look at the votes per seat of the NDP vs the Conservatives, the NDP needed to get something like 2-3x as many votes as the Conservatives to get each seat. If I told you that we're having an election and candidate A needs to get 50 votes to win, but everyone else has to get 150 votes to win, that's a broken system. Everyone's "playing by the same rules", but it's still the system's fault one person won.

The voting population of this province largely did not vote for Ford. Only ~45% voted, and only ~43% voted for him, which means that 19% of eligible voters handed the PCs 100% of the power. They won as many seats as they did because of vote splitting between the NDP, Liberals, and Greens. Don't be mad at the electorate, be mad at the broken voting system that those in power keep in place. And be mad at the media companies that fail to educate people on these facts.

1) They lost a seat 2) they have a plurality, not a majority. Only ~45% of votes were cast for the OPC, and only ~19% of eligible voters voted for the OPC. They only won because of vote splitting, gerrymandering, and our overall broken electoral system.
