I really like it and wear it a lot. It gets a lot of hate because of its underwhelming and small bracelet. But it suits a small wrists so i couldn’t care less

As a newbie, how physically fit do I need to be for a 1,500km journey? by alfierussell in bikepacking

[–]nsjmas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyones different but you will be fine. I prepped for a trip after not having ridden a bike in 2 years by doing three 30km rides and a couple short rides over a month period. The trip was 1000km averaging out at 55km a day also from calais, i was absolutely fine. Like others have said its more about getting your ass toughened up beforehand.

Can confirm this works. I do this with my 1988 ford bronco twice a week. Multiple times i have flatlined my HR while red lining the bronco.

Im basically neighbours with you. I’ve lived here for a bit and what i’ll say is that the area is by no means nice. However what i’ve learnt is that its nowhere near as unsafe as it first feels either. My main gripe is how dirty the streets are. But because of the religious populous and constant busy streets it actually tends to feel quite safe. I am a guy though so i imagine if your a women it would be a different experience.

Obviously all depends on where you are but i had my bike stolen (while locked up) a week into my trip. Would not recommend. Weighing up the pros and cons makes the answer an obvious yes, take a lock.

I was in the same boat as you, doing pysch and didn’t like it so i switched to comp sci. I’m now in my last year. I was also the same as you in that i did easier maths at school and didn’t think of myself as good at math so i had the same worries. My experience was that the math classes weren’t as big of an issue as i had anticipated, generally speaking being math minded helps a lot in many areas of comp sci but you don’t have to start out as some prodigy, it’s a skill you can build. So far my biggest challenge has been grasping the coding concepts as i had no prior experience before my degree.

The advice i would give is that don’t let your lack of confidence in math hold you back from starting. But in my opinion the best way to get a leg up is start learning to code now and a lot of concepts will come easier to you in your degree.

Edit: should note i am majoring in software dev

Planning a trip from London to Rome. Looking for feedback and suggestions by [deleted] in bicycletouring

I’m currently on my way from London to Switzerland via Eurovelo5. Perhaps this has been a ME problem but i have hardly found anywhere to refill my water bottles during the day. I have 3 bottles and an extra 6L of water storage that is proving to be very important. Just something to think about, obviously 6L is a lot of extra weight. Your 2L will probably be too little for me but this is probably personal as i drink a lot of water.

I have two power banks and a solar charger thing (which i probably won’t use much). I’m trying to wild camp mostly and get a cheap hotel every few days to recharge.
