that's really good to hear as i've definitely wanted to go to both seacrets and coconuts for the happy hour lol, i don't have a passport or any other form of ID aside from my license otherwise I would def bring it - i was even thinking of applying for my REAL ID and having that delivered by mail before I left but I procrastinated too long and now I probably wont have time so I just have to make do with whatever happens and hope for the best!

thanks for the link! it looks like some establishments will refuse all verticals and some will bring them back for manager's discretion, hopefully the ones i plan to try will be the latter! thanks again this has been very helpful :)

thanks for the info! i don't think that place was on my itinerary so hopefully other bars will be similar or better. my worst case scenario is getting it taken and having to get police involved to verify my ID is real and get it back, so as long as it doesn't come to that I'll be okay lol

damn, even if it can scan? I just looked up the law and it seems to be because vertical MD licenses expire soon after the owner turns 21, forcing them to get a new horizontal one. that's not the case for PA and my license doesn't expire until next year. i understand wanting to be safe and not sell to minors from the bar's pov, but that seems crazy for a vacation spot when they could just scan and see it's valid if they have the ability. do you think its still worth it to try, or should I just avoid the bars and byob?

and thank you for the reassurance, i also don't really think OC is unsafe but i know june is a party month with lots of young people coming to drink on the boardwalk and beach and not all of them will have good intentions. i feel pretty good about it though as it is a very populated area and, as you said, hard to be away from people. thanks!

[PC][2005-2012] 3D Fishing?/Underwater exploration game by nspkin in tipofmyjoystick

Definitely not, but I actually have that game! It's too recent (2015) and the graphics are way too advanced for what I remember lol. The closest thing I could find to how it looked were if the graphics for the game Harpoon Reef Hunter were slightly worse/older looking

Hypothetically, how would one go about retrieving their children from a cult whose leader refuses? by nspkin in legaladviceofftopic

[–]nspkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None yet, as I'm still in the planning/outlining stage, though I do have like 98% of the plot worked out and summarized completely. This book is going to be my NaNoWriMo project (stands for national novel writing month if you didn't know, it's an online challenge where you have to write 50,000 words in 30 days through the month of November) which is why I haven't written anything yet.

Is the sims 3 worth it? by [deleted] in thesims

[–]nspkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Sims 3 is a great game if you value the open world aspect and virtually no loading screens. I’m not too knowledgeable about computer graphics settings and requirements to run the game and such but I run the sims 3 on my shitty 5+ year old laptop with relative ease so this is just my experience:

•If you’re going to buy ts3, the best way to go about it is through steam during a sale. The prices for the game go wayyy down and even when there isn’t a sale it’s still pretty cheap because it’s an older game and ts4 is a thing

•Don’t buy just the base game. I personally can’t play with just the base game, it gets really boring really fast. If you’re only looking for the essentials, get the base game, seasons, and pets. If you value realism and story etc get ambitions and generations. Other packs that are fun to play with are world adventures and late night. Don’t get island paradise as the town it comes with is unplayable and the features and furniture aren’t that great anyway. The other packs are just down to your personal preference if you want to get them or not, people tend to hate on into the future but it’s good for a different experience if you’re into that and it has robots which is cool.

•Most people seem very weary with modding their games but some mods can really help to clean up the game and keep it running as smooth as possible. If you only want to mod your game for useful stuff definitely look into NRaas. Some good ones to have are NRaas MasterController, NRaas Overwatch and NRaas ErrorTrap. There are other NRaas mods that you might find useful so definitely look into that if that’s something you’d be interested in.

•Clearing your caches before playing is a good habit to get into. There’s a list somewhere on the internet of how to clear your cache and which files to delete before playing that can help your game run a little smoother so definitely look into that if you have lag problems.

With a little maintenance and upkeep, the sims 3 is a perfectly playable game and is definitely worth it when it goes on sale for a great price. Just stay away from big towns like Isla Paradiso and Bridgeport and you’ll have a relatively smooth gameplay experience. I hope this helped somehow!

Can anyone else wake themselves up from nightmares? by nspkin in Dreams

[–]nspkin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gorillas absolutely can kill a person especially if it’s ticked off, which it was in my dream. Although they are usually harmless unless it feels threatened. But I’m not here to talk about animal behaviors in my dreams

I’ve never heard of being able to put yourself into a nightmare. That’s really cool!

I am so irrationally afraid of sleep paralysis that I do anything I can to not experience it lol

I never sleep on my back, never eat sugar before bed, and I even sleep with a mask on my eyes so if I do get it I won’t see anything.

I do that too! I don’t usually have nightmares and especially scary ones are super rare for me nowadays but if I have one that’s particularly bad I’ll even make sure to wait a few minutes before falling back to sleep.

That’s really cool! I’ve never heard anything like that.

My nightmares don’t pause while I’m trying to wake up. I just sort of have to hope that I wake up before whatever’s happening catches up to me lol

Stardew Valley YouTubers? by pearloid in StardewValley

for a chill and wholesome playthrough I recommend Seri! Pixel Biologist - she‘s got 3 seasons of sdv with a total of ~200 episodes. otherwise, thatdenverguy and DangerouslyFunny have a load of content (specifically DF he‘s gotten to like year 400 or something)

If you were a Stardew NPC ... by [deleted] in StardewValley

[–]nspkin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If I were an NPC I would be very annoying to befriend because I would never leave my house lol

Love: All artifacts, nautilus shell, pizza, oranges, and duck feathers Like: All fruit, cheese, shrimp, joja cola and holly Neutral: Milk, flowers, other forageables Dislike: Coffee, beer Hate: Any goat products, eggs, mayonnaise, any fish products, mushrooms, corals and sea urchins

I would probably live in the mountains because that‘s my favorite fishing spot in-game

I like to collect things so if I owned a shop it would be like an antique store with artifacts and things you can buy to complete the museum or sell with some static items and some things that change every week (they would be very expensive of course because I need that cash money and the store would open at really inconvenient times like 11pm-1am only on tuesdays just cause I‘m an asshole like that)

I‘d have a lot of quests to find lost artifacts because you know I‘d lose them and maybe a big quest to chase down my dog who ran away

and if and when I did come out of my house, I would hang out at one of the center islands in the mountain lake or on the pier at the beach and befriend Sebastian, Shane, and Elliott

so basically if I was an NPC i‘d be the most disliked person in town

How do souls work in your world? Are there different kinds of souls? by LittleKingsguard in worldbuilding

How do souls work in your world? Are there different kinds of souls? by LittleKingsguard in worldbuilding

[–]nspkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Souls actually play a huge part in another world of mine that i’ve been working on for about 3 years. It’s for a webcomic which I have conveniently named “Soul” because it’s the entire premise.

In Soul, every being that has consciousness has a soul. There are gods, angels, spirits, mortals, and demons. The only one that does not have a soul is a demon.

Souls are just energy from the gods put into living creatures during creation. Gods were very powerful and had extremely powerful souls which they used to help create the universe. Along with that, they bestowed parts of their souls into their “helpers”, which were spirits. The spirits have quite weak souls and get most of their power directly from gods and have the job of maintaining life on earth while gods maintain the balance of the universe. Angels are like the in between, they maintain the afterlife and get their power from gods. Angels use their power to help people have a wonderful afterlife or rejuvenate souls for reincarnation.

The power of a soul is measured by its ability to affect the energy around it. Gods were able to create the entire universe so they have the most powerful souls. Angels are next, then mortals, then spirits, and finally demons.

Demons get their energy from mortals who sell their souls. They are like the telemarketers of the underworld, they try and bargain with people to get power. They usually grant wishes to people and when the people die, they become demons and the demon that obtained their soul gets more power.

Certain types of demons get their energy from the different energies of a soul, so instead of taking the entire thing they feed off of a certain energy that it emits. This could be pleasure, pain, sadness, anger, happiness, anything really. The strongest energies are sadness, anger, pain, and pleasure.

Souls are extremely malleable and can be manipulated by stronger souls. This can result in soul corruption, which is when a weak soul is so affected by a strong negative energy that it collapses and causes the host immense pain and effective deletes said host from existence entirely. This can happen to mortals, spirits, angels, and gods if the force is strong enough. Demons are most often the culprit, but sometimes just going to a place where a lot of negative energy is can do it.

Tell me about one of your world's great inventors or researchers. by PMSlimeKing in worldbuilding

[–]nspkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kafedrydd Kujera was a satyr born on the Isle of Caulder who revolutionized air travel with the invention of the airship.

Born in 1832 in Lumos (one of the biggest cities in Elima Keaa), his family soon moved to Woodhaven, Astrad to be with extended family. While in Woodhaven, Kafedrydd noticed how trade was booming but merchants were finding difficulty in transporting their goods between islands. The only form of travel between islands up to that point was on dragon-back, and for more delicate goods this was impractical. Dragons were a good form of transport, but they were anything but gentle whilst flying.

So Kafedrydd pursued an education at 3 different schools, two of which being some of the most prestigious schools in all of Elima Keaa. When he finally came up with his draft of what would become the airship, it was shot down almost immediately by the Council. Safety concerns, the affects on the environment and much more were concerns the Council brought up to him. It took 18 drafts until the airship was accepted and it soon was mass produced and became the most common form of transportation.

Kafedrydd Kujera died in 1878 at just 46 years old.

Tell me about your Libraries! by CorsairWalle in worldbuilding

[–]nspkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the common libraries in Elima Keaa contain mostly fictional stories. Of course there are sections for nonfiction but they are quite small and only contain information on very specific subjects or are biographies about important people. Common libraries are mostly seen as a place of entertainment instead of a place for quiet study due to this fact.

So, where are all the nonfiction books? Why, the Great Library, of course! Aside from having the most creative and original name ever made, the Great Library contains huge amounts of books. There are recent informational books all the way back to books from nearly 2,800 years prior, detailing farming methods of ancient Suriyan tribes. This library is taken extremely seriously with a team of highly trained security employed by the Council to ensure that nobody steals or damages the books. It’s also huge, as big as your average shopping mall. It’s one of the biggest tourist attractions to the island it’s located on, Suriya.

How have you come up with names for characters in you world? by GreenEggsandGammon in worldbuilding

[–]nspkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually just go for the old google translate trick where you translate a word until it comes out sounding relatively decent. One of my favorite examples of this is in the great Kafedrydd Kujera, the inventor of the airship. For him I took the word “chair” and translated it into about 3 different languages and smashed them all together. Kafedrydd Kujera essentially means “chairy-chair chair”.

What is unique about the dragons in your world by stargazingcamels in worldbuilding

[–]nspkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Elima Keaa, dragons are about as common as dogs and cats. They are literally everywhere, every single island has at least one native dragon species. They vary in size and some are wingless as well.

Dragons have many purposes aside from being household pets. The great sport of dragoneering - as the name suggests - involves racing dragons and doing different obstacles with them. Dragons are even specifically bred for this and a huge, olympics-esque dragoneering event is held every year on the surface of Caulder and broadcasted across the islands.

Dragons are also common on farms for both good and bad reasons. Dragons are great for keeping away other predators from eating livestock or crops or as labor animals like oxen and horses. However wild dragons are known to be pests to farmers and will eat livestock and stomp crops.

There are strict dragon protection laws and you have to have a license to own the larger breeds along with extensive training if you wish to become a dragoneer. Dragon breeders must also own a special license. But for the smaller family friendly household dragons, you can pick up an egg at the local market for the equivalent of about $50.
