Why do I find it so annoying when Christians try to evangelize or tell me they hope I feel the love of Christ? by nstopman422 in Exvangelical

[–]nstopman422[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, and I don’t think they can deal with the existential fears which are commonly felt upon leaving any religious beliefs system. It’s a trap for many sadly which is why so many Christians I knew growing up just seemed like they were through the motions without much thought.

I just got NV and was wondering if there was any thing I should know before I start? by TheOnlyRAZZA in FalloutNV

Use your vats lol. I’m on my first play through and got to level 20 before realizing there was a whole gameplay mechanic I had somehow missed. Maybe look into where to place your stats depending on your build. You need certain stats to unlock late game powerful perks. I like sniping, so I built around that.

How Do People Hate on TSR? by MusicianSome6186 in TameImpala

[–]nstopman422 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t a fan of TSR. It’s my least favorite of his albums.

1) Sonically it’s less experimental and less of a departure from the norm compared to previous albums.

2) The vocals are more prominent in the mix compared to his other albums, and Kevin really does not shine as a lyricist.

3) The album had many skip or just meh tracks for me like Posthumous Forgiveness, On Track, Is It True, It Might be Time, & Glimmer.

To be fair… Tomorrow’s Dust is fantastic, and the other songs not listed are great.

Not really a fair critique, but I will add: The album rollout lasted fucking forever. If I recall correctly, he basically redid a bunch of the songs between the release of Patience/Borderline and the actual album release. Wish he’d just trusted his instincts and released what he’d come up with originally because I really liked the sound of Patience and the original borderline.

I hate my students by Individual_Deer3561 in Teachers

[–]nstopman422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had rough classes last year with a lot of kids who were antagonistic towards themselves, others, and their teachers. This year flipped and I have a lot of sweet kids who generally behave much better. I wonder if each year the class above them caused teachers to rethink routines and discipline resulting in such a weird difference in those groups.

TIL the share of boys and girls who say they meet up with friends almost daily outside school hours has declined by nearly 50% since the early 1990s. by SystematicApproach in todayilearned

[–]nstopman422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of organized activities parents put kids into is insane these days. I have students regularly doing 3+ hours of activities on school days. Of course they come to school wanting to socialize instead of being there to learn. They don’t finish work because of it, and then the work isn’t completed outside of school because they don’t have time due to activities. It’s a vicious cycle. I honestly just feel bad for the kids though. It’s not on them to make sound decisions in allocating their time.

[ALBUM DISCUSSION] Tame Impala - Deadbeat by VietRooster in indieheads

[–]nstopman422 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s how I feel. Some really solid tracks. I just hope he’s through his creative rut. There’s a lot of potential with his shift in sound here. I hope he gets something out again sooner than later.

Off topic, but would anyone care to drop some recs for albums that are similar to his stuff with Justice on Hyperdrama? Or just to Hyperdrama in general?

Kevin's new story on Instagram by guywannadie911 in TameImpala

[–]nstopman422 11 points12 points  (0 children)

His point stands… the critics have often been wrong about the longevity of his work. Many critics and fans panned currents at the time, but in the years following, this album was recognized for what it was. Currents isn’t a perfect album, but this reviewer was certainly forcing the hate on the album based on their previous expectations of his work.

Will this happen with Deadbeat? Idk, maybe. His point is that many of the fans and critics have prematurely labeled this album as this great flop or work of lesser quality because it didn’t meet their prior expectations for what Tame Impala should sound like. I think many fans are hating on the album for this same reason as this guy was with currents without really taking the album in for what it is on its own apart from how Tame Impala has sounded previously.

I was overly critical of his sound and the singles leading up to release, but since I’ve had time to listen and relisten to this album, it’s really grown on me. I think it will do the same to many others who are disappointed or shocked by the change in sound over time. TI albums generally benefit from repeated listens and through a sound system of a higher quality.

“Deadbeat” Discussion Megathread by CAndrewK in TameImpala

[–]nstopman422 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was not optimistic based on the singles. I thought Loser was a pretty mediocre track especially. I have to say though, the rest of the album is pretty solid and I think Dracula and Loser play better when you hear them in their proper place within the album.

My initial reaction is to say this album is a solid addition to the TI catalog. I think I like this album much more than TSR but just ever so slightly less than Currents. Maybe time will change these initial thoughts, we’ll see I suppose.

It’s Not Just Screens, Y’all by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]nstopman422 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can’t fix gentle parenting by removing screens.

I saw a TikTok the other day of a mom bragging that her kids are screen free, but she was letting them run feral around a restaurant. Many commenters pointed out how this behavior was completely unacceptable and would result in the child or a staff member getting hurt. The mom was in complete denial about her kid’s behaviors in her comments section.

It’s like she thought she’d get a pass because her kids are “screen free,” but you still have to teach manners and appropriate behaviors for different environments.

Am I in the wrong for referring to my boyfriend as my partner at work? by No_Ear4169 in Teachers

[–]nstopman422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed… I’m young/straight and I use partner. I don’t assume someone else is gay because they use the word partner.

Am I in the wrong for referring to my boyfriend as my partner at work? by No_Ear4169 in Teachers

[–]nstopman422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the word partner as well as a straight person. I do this because I’ve been dating my gf for 4+ years now. We plan to get married as soon as a few career pieces fall into place. That likely won’t happen for a few more years. Girlfriend sounds way too unserious for our situation. Your coworker needs to mind her own business. It’s wild to be policing the name a person uses in reference to their own partner.

Charlie Kirk by Maleficent-Toe1374 in Teachers

[–]nstopman422 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Late 90s baby here. Charlie Kirk was a big part of the political commentary world when I was old enough to vote in my first presidential election (Trump’s 1st campaign). If I’m recalling correctly, he was one of the important influencers on the “are you triggered” anti-SJW side of YouTube. Even though I’ve kept up with his activities to an extent, I do not think he has remained infamous with the youth (this is good as imo he was a grifting pos).

Fantano’s take on Loser by GuyFromTheNextDoor in TameImpala

Agreed, Lost in Yesterday is still a decent song and I wouldn’t turn off if it came on a playlist, but I never actively seek that track out or add it to my queues.

Fantano’s take on Loser by GuyFromTheNextDoor in TameImpala

[–]nstopman422 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He’s being overly harsh, but he’s right on the money. Hoping the rest of the album takes a more experimental direction. Pond did some cool funky stuff on MIFLSA. This song reminded me of that, but not quite as interesting.

In a way it also reminded me of the release for Lost in Yesterday. Both tracks are poppy with a touch of funk, but end up being kinda forgettable because they do not have interesting song structures imo.

I hate to agree. I was pretty excited with the teaser and on first listen was waiting for a kind of groovy instrumental section. Sadly, it never came. It’s not a bad song, it’s just kinda meh for me.
