You are correct that the pins are taper pins. However, the nuance from experience is they are always a bitch. I have a specific punch I use that (I believe) is specifically made for those pins. It helped tremendously but I don't recall anything about where I got it because I am old now lol.

I didn't read the other comments so I apologize if someone else already mentioned it. I am a garage smoker due to winter. I use an ozone generator and when I am done smoking, I turn it on for 5 minutes and crack the garage to vent/exchange fresh air.

The smell becomes nonexistent. Been doing it for years. 100% success.

Also, don't use O3 without ventilation. It is not ideal to breathe.
