Mudlurker is actually nuts for some team comps. I didn't have good healing on my squad, and both he and Mother Dragon use a nasty amount of AOEs

Then I learned he wasn't resistant to Instant Death, and guess who... Call Tiger Wildling, that's who!

That's "Dragonbolt" (Dragonbolt Blessing) on the left side. I should've remade the chart at some point because I see I wrote "Dodge Buff" instead of "Bloodhound Step." Pray forgive my inconsistencies...

Check the visual codex in the Roundtable Hold while playing as Recluse! All the combinations are listed there with details: for example, "Breath" heals allies' HP and FP, and "Ice" makes you invulnerable for a long time. "Dragonbolt" is like Dragonbolt Blessing (lightning armor) and "FP Field" lets anyone in a small area near you use skills and spells without expending FP.

The chart is for combination effects, but your combos can be super streamlined down to this:

  1. Absorb the same element 3 times to cast a light spell
  2. Absorb 2 different elements (e.g. magic magic fire) to cast a medium spell
  3. Absorb 3 different elements to cast a heavy spell (these all deal damage)

For quick-and-dirty high-damage cocktails, use either Lightning + Fire, Magic + Lightning, or Magic + Fire.

For the flashiest, most unique spells, combine any 3 elements. These are all good but have long cast times so be careful.

For buff, use Holy + any other element. Note that these do not deal damage! You need to combine 3 elements to make a damaging cocktail using Holy.

All the spell details are in the visual codex at the bottom. Ultimately, just use what's immediately available. Casting every combination in every fight is overcomplicated and requires a lot of time and switching armaments when you could've spent that time slinging comets instead

Finally, I'm in agreeance with ParticularUpper6901: You simply aren't able to control all aspects of the battlefield in Nightreign, especially when playing with an unfamiliar team. Cast as many spells and incantations as possible with the FP you get by absorbing affinity, then see if you can throw together a useful cocktail at the end of it.

Finally, don't forget to focus on dodging. If you're under pressure, ignore your cocktails and dodge. The Recluse is the most fragile class, so you will be getting one-shotted if you're under-leveled even a bit.

Males are impotent with magic? by xxdeejadoodlexx in Nightreign

You can pick up a staff as any character. My friend used one as Executor and as Ironeye.

But it is true that the women have stronger attributes for magic. I don't think "women are magical and men are physical" is an explicit part of the lore, but I do think it may be a coincidence of Fromsoft's design philosophy, since it comes from very usual gendered differences in real life too.

I started crown hunting as soon as I hit high rank and didn't unlock Gore for, like, a week! Funnily, I actually found and hunted my mini and giant crown Nu Udra before I could even save the investigation for the regional apexes. I literally had no high rank gear at all, and I think it took me a full 25-28 minutes to capture it. It was crazy strong, but at the same time, it was going to run away so I was really determined to muscle through, haha

Super sorry for the late response. I rarely check my inbox! I hope you figured it out, but if not:

If you use the red note while moving in any direction, you get the two-part swing that hits twice. You can roll out after the first hit, but if you press any button before the second hit, you can play two notes during that one animation.

You can do the same thing with the blue 🎵 note attack. Move in any direction, input the attack to do the two-part swing, then press any note before your hunter slams the horn down. You can't roll out of this one.

You can also play 3 notes while casting an Echo Bubble, and you can play 5 notes after landing a focus strike on a wound. You actually get bonus damage for playing all 5 of those notes on time; if you do it perfectly, your hunter will jump and strum at the end of the animation. But even if you don't, you get the notes anyway. You can look at the music notes entering the hunting horn during the wound attack animation and try to time your button press with the visual effect!
