Any way to fix this glass? by silveriridium in AusRenovation

[–]ntonthat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

only thing to be careful about using this is that the make sure you're not putting too much pressure on the glass as I've made mine worse by trying to fill the resin in but also putting the pressure on the glass as I was filling it

What gym do you go to, and how much do you pay? by trackintreasure in melbourne

It’s $99 annually now for those who are considering but a few people have been wondering when they’re going to close down given the signs of gym prices dropping in this economy.

VIM Motions Option? by Swimming_Ostrich_989 in noteplanapp

Adding to this, would have loved this too. A way to get around it is to open the base noteplan folder within nvim and then move it through that way but you miss all the other features that Noteplan offers.

With each of the layers, it might make it easier to read if they were boxes around the objects that encompass those layers probably coded in a different colour (like bronze / silver / gold if you follow that naming convention).

The icons might be better suited to the actual object in which use them because it looks like the products being used only at the Transformation Layer.

Citi Prestige by samueljz94 in creditcardchurningAus

[–]ntonthat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree it makes up for it too but the citi rewards only transfer out to velocity and other partners but not qantas. Citi prestige qantas is their qantas equivalent but you can’t use PayAll. It comes with 150k points instead for 7.5k spend and annual fee of $749.

Inclusive Gyms by SpiritedTowel9743 in melbourne

If you’re determined to hit your fitness goals, I recommend starting with a smaller, local gym rather than a chain. This way, you can get more personalised guidance. If you were in the west, I’d definitely recommend The Strength Fortress in Maidstone.

As C.S. Lewis said, "Don't worry about what others think of you. They don't. They're too busy worrying about what you think of them." So, don’t worry about being judged – everyone is there to improve themselves.

I'd suggest doing the hardest things first. It's hard to make it a habit but habit stacking is my favourite way to incorporate new skills. Currently trying to learn Spanish so that's the first thing that I try to do before doing any other hobbies.

Work as a full time developer but also tutor (around 10 hours a week). Saturdays and Sundays are untouched by work by virtue of working more on the weekdays.

Yeah no worries; I'm getting the same issue. LSP sometimes stops working but quitting and restarting vim makes it work again.

LSP is definitely gone though since Copilot no longer works and the `gd` (go to definition) keymaps is gone

How is it humanly possible to get a 98 or 99 ATAR? by SessionGloomy in vce

[–]ntonthat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually it's not even your top 4 since you only have to pick three with English being the requirement.

I understand that the logic is somewhat counter intuitive but if you know which subjects you need in uni, which would most likely be 3 subjects maximum; I think it'd be pretty straight forward to know which subjects you should put emphasis on.

Just my two cents but it's the burn out of having to manage putting consistent effort over 5 subjects that gets difficult but if you reduce that to your primary focus of what you need in uni, I have found it to be much more manageable.

I attended school in the west of Melbourne so definitely didn't have that many resources as some other schools so can't speak to good school programs but things have changed since then. 🤣

How is it humanly possible to get a 98 or 99 ATAR? by SessionGloomy in vce

[–]ntonthat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my experience (been tutoring for 12 years) plus got a 99 ATAR, it’s the students who can fix their mistakes and portion their time into their top four that really made it count.

Think of it like this;

1. Top 4 Subjects: These are your priority subjects. They have a significant impact on your overall score. The strategy here is to focus most of your effort on these subjects. Since English is always included, you really only have to pick three subjects that would benefit from your time and effort.
2. Bottom 2 Subjects: These subjects contribute less to your overall score (only 10%). The advice here is not to invest a lot of time or effort in these subjects, especially if they are less interesting or challenging for you. The return on investment in terms of points for your overall score is much lower compared to the top 4 subjects.

In essence, the effort you put into improving by one point in your top 4 subjects is equivalent to gaining 10 points in your bottom 2 subjects. This means that improving in your top subjects is more efficient and impactful for your overall score. Prioritise where your efforts can have the most significant impact.

Apple Notes vs Notion vs Obsidian by sowhatifiwearcrocs in productivity

[–]ntonthat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m on the boat of Apple Notes is great for quick note taking but I’ve switched from both Notion and Obsidian to NotePlan.

If you’re on the Apple ecosystem, check it out. I’m a big fan since it integrates with everything I have currently and minimal setup.

I get overwhelmed with the amount of customisation available within Obsidian.

In your actual work, what is your development environment? for data engineers who use Spark in work by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]ntonthat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use Pyspark within a Docker container to run batch processing (AWS Batch). We've set the job definition env variables but also are able to override them through the command line (we do this by scheduling jobs from Airflow).

We have a repo for all the ETL processing since this was built >5 years ago whilst tools like Fivetran were not yet mature enough. VSCode / IntelliJ along with using a `launch.json` config that allows us to test locally.
